Chapter 282 Shang Wan is back
Chapter 282 Shang Wan is back
The box was old and covered in dust.
He wiped it with his hand and then opened it.
There were several items inside the box.
He found a smooth stone with some blurry patterns carved on it when he was a child by the river. He thought it was pretty and has kept it with him ever since.
A piece of purple jade, left to him by the Beast God, was his faith.
There was also a yellowed animal skin with a simple design drawn on it, which he had drawn himself, depicting his imagined home.
Chen looked at these things with a gentle gaze.
These are all his memories.
It is proof that he lived.
But now, none of this matters.
He took the animal hide out of the box, carefully unfolded it, and placed it on the ground.
Chen took out a small knife from his pocket and cut his finger.
Fresh blood gushed from the wound and dripped onto the animal hide.
He dipped his finger in blood and wrote a line on the animal hide.
The handwriting was crooked, but very clear.
After he finished writing, he put down the knife, looked at the blood-written words on the animal hide, and smiled.
The smile was faint, yet it carried a sense of relief.
“Since it has come to this,” he said softly, his voice calm, “then let your death have some value.”
He put the animal hide back into the wooden box and then placed the box in the most conspicuous place in the stone house.
------------
Eternal Forest, Tiger Lion City.
The city appeared exceptionally quiet under the cover of night.
The moonlight, like water, spilled onto the castle's spires, onto the cobblestone streets, and onto the sleeping eaves.
Everything was immersed in peace.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew by.
The wind wasn't strong, but it carried a biting chill, swirling up fallen leaves that twirled in the air before slowly drifting down.
A figure landed silently at the castle gate.
He wore a dark red robe, made of fine material that gleamed faintly in the moonlight.
The robe was very loose, and it swayed gently in the night breeze, like a falling maple leaf.
His face was hidden in the shadows and could not be seen clearly.
But that aura, that chilling aura, immediately put the guards at the door on high alert.
"who!"
A guard stepped forward, his hand gripping the hilt of his sword at his waist, and shouted sternly.
The person slowly raised their head.
The moonlight fell perfectly on his face.
It was an extremely handsome face, with sharp features and deep-set eyes.
Her skin was as pale as if she had never seen the sun, but her lips were as red as if they were smeared with blood.
What's most striking is those eyes.
His reddish-brown pupils gleamed with an eerie light in the night.
When the guard saw the face clearly, he froze.
"You...you..." His voice trembled, and he could barely utter a complete sentence.
"Get out of the way." The newcomer's voice was calm, yet carried an undeniable authority.
The guard snapped out of his daze, immediately took a step back, and made way for him.
But he still instinctively stood in front of the castle gate.
"I'm sorry, sir." The guard's voice was still trembling, but he had regained his composure. "The Queen has decreed that no one is allowed to enter the castle at night. Please wait a moment, I will go and inform her."
The newcomer did not move, but stood there quietly, his scarlet eyes staring at the guard.
His gaze was calm, yet it sent a chill down the guard's spine.
"Go and announce it," the person finally spoke, his voice still calm. "Just say that Shang Wan has returned."
The guard's heart skipped a beat.
Mourning evening.
This name is known to everyone in Tiger and Lion City.
The Blood Demon King, a former follower of the Queen, died trying to save her.
But the person in front of me...
Without thinking twice, the guard immediately turned around and rushed into the castle.
Footsteps echoed in the empty hall, hurried and frantic.
The bedroom on the top floor of the castle was brightly lit.
Yuan Xiao and Chi Miao were still awake.
These past few days, they have been using the crystal ball to search for Chi Qianqian's whereabouts and have made some progress.
The crystal ball was placed on the table in the center of the room. The ball was transparent, and some blurry images could be vaguely seen inside.
"It should be in this area."
Chi Miao pointed to a spot inside the crystal ball, her voice tinged with weariness but mostly with excitement, "We'll set off at dawn tomorrow and head to this spot. As long as we're in that vicinity, the crystal ball will help us narrow down the search area, and we should be able to find Qianqian's exact location by tomorrow."
Yuan Xiao sat at the table, her hands supporting her chin, her eyes fixed on the crystal ball, not blinking.
She didn't look well either, with dark circles under her eyes, clearly indicating that she hadn't rested well in the past few days.
But at this moment, her eyes were incredibly bright, filled with hope.
"I hope I can find her this time," she said softly, her voice a little hoarse. "I really miss her."
Chi Miao took her hand and patted it gently.
“We will find it,” he said firmly. “Haven’t we already seen hope?”
Yuan Xiao nodded and forced a smile.
Chi Miao covered her with the blanket and gently kissed her forehead.
Go to sleep early, I'll wake you up in the morning.
Just then, hurried footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.
Immediately following was a knock on the door.
"Your Majesty! Your Majesty!" came the guard's voice from outside the door, filled with tension and panic.
Yuan Xiao and Chi Miao exchanged a glance, both seeing confusion in each other's eyes.
"Come in," Yuan Xiao said.
The door was pushed open, and the guard rushed in, panting heavily.
"Your Majesty," he said breathlessly, "I didn't mean to disturb you...it's just that..."
He glanced at Yuan Xiao, then at Chi Miao, his expression growing even more tense.
"It's...it's the Blood Demon King who's back!"
Yuan Xiao suddenly stood up, knocking the chair to the ground with a loud crash.
"What did you say?" Her voice was trembling.
The guard was startled by her strong reaction and stammered, "I...I wouldn't dare to make things up. He said his name is Shang Wan, and he does indeed have demonic energy on him..."
Before the guard could finish speaking, Yuan Xiao immediately shouted, "Bring him to me quickly!"
The guard was stunned for a moment, then immediately realized what was happening and turned to run.
Chi Miao also stood up, his expression solemn.
"Shang Wan has really been resurrected?" He looked at Yuan Xiao, his voice filled with disbelief. "But isn't his physical body still inside your crystal ball?"
Yuan Xiao then realized what was happening.
She immediately turned around, rushed to the bedside, and took the crystal ball from under the pillow.
The crystal ball was still transparent, but it was empty inside, with nothing inside.
The physical body of Shang Wan, which had been lying inside, was gone.
Yuan Xiao's hand trembled, and the crystal ball almost fell to the ground.
“He really came back to life…” she murmured, her voice filled with shock, but even more so with an indescribable joy.
Shang Wan is still alive.
The man who died saving her is still alive.
Just then, the door was pushed open again...
