Chapter 361 The Bride of the Sea God (20)

She quickly glanced through it, found nothing important, and simply replied with an emoji.

After class at noon, Yan Zhen went to the cafeteria for lunch. When she turned on her phone, Nolan had sent her dozens of messages.

He can't type, so he sends me emojis, voice messages, videos, and photos.

From what he posted, Yan Zhen could tell two words – boredom.

He seemed to have gotten used to the two of them being home together, and now that he was all alone, he didn't know what to do for a while.

Yan Zhen sent it a video call, and Nolan answered immediately.

"Have you eaten anything?" Yan Zhen asked.

Nolan lazily soaked in the fish tank, and you could see his tail fin swaying behind him in the video: "I ate it."

"If you're bored, turn on the TV." Yan Zhen glanced at his watch. "There's an ocean documentary you'll like to watch today."

"I'm not watching," Nolan said listlessly. "The preview for last week said this episode would be about orcas. Who wants to watch that stupid orca?"

Yan Zhen was amused by his resentful tone: "Then you should take a nap. I have five hours left before get out of class ends. I'll take you out for some fresh air on my bike tonight."

Nolan's eyes lit up: "Where are we going for some fresh air?"

Yan Zhen countered, "Where do you want to go?"

Nolan rolled his eyes and said, "I want to go to the beach."

"Row."

Nolan was a little surprised that Yan Zhen agreed so readily: "Is it okay? Can I go to the beach?"

"can."

Nolan's smile widened instantly: "Okay, I'll wait for you to come back."

After hanging up the phone, Yan Zhen contacted her superiors and asked them to book a beach in Shengjing that required an entrance fee.

She had just finished doing these things when a male voice sounded beside her: "Si Xia".

Yan Zhen looked up and saw Qiao Yun, a senior student from the same department.

Because they shared a lab, the original owner had a lot of contact with this senior last semester, and Qiao Yun had subtly expressed her feelings for him.

But Si Xia wasn't interested in dating, so she subtly rejected him.

Qiao Yun, holding a tray in her hands, smiled gently and elegantly: "May I sit here?"

Yan Zhen nodded: "Okay."

Qiao Yun sat down opposite her and chatted with her casually while eating.

The two were in the same major and had common topics. In addition, Qiao Yun had high emotional intelligence and could speak eloquently whether it was casual conversation or professional topics. Yan Zhen was not annoyed by his approach.

Before they knew it, almost an hour had passed since the meal started. With class starting in fifteen minutes, Yan Zhen stood up and said, "Senior, I have to go back to class."

Qiao Yun stacked the plates in front of her into her own hands: "Okay, I'll take the plates to the collection point."

"Thank you."

Yan Zhen picked up her bag and was about to leave when Qiao Yun called out to her again, "Si Xia, um..."

Yan Zhen turned around: "Hmm?"

"Are you free tonight? Let's go see a movie together," Qiao Yun said.

Yan Zhen smiled and said, "Sorry, I have an appointment."

Qiao Yun was a little disappointed, but maintained a polite smile: "Then another day."

Yan Zhen nodded and hurried away.

At five o'clock in the afternoon, Yan Zhen returned home and saw Nolan dressed and sitting obediently by the flower bed outside the living room, waiting for her.

Yan Zhen raised an eyebrow. It seemed that Nolan was really looking forward to "going out for some fresh air." Even Yu, who usually hated clothes, was wearing clothes on her own initiative.

Yan Zhen didn't delay. After eating something simple, he rode his sidecar motorcycle with Nolan straight to the beach as soon as the sun went down.

After a drive of more than an hour, we arrived at the seaside just as it was getting dark.

The beach that had been reserved has been cleared out, and there is no one on the sand.

Nolan smelled the sea breeze and became excited. As soon as he got to the beach, he kicked off his shoes and ran into the sea while taking off his clothes.

Yan Zhen followed behind him at a leisurely pace, picking up his clothes and shoes and holding them in her arms.

When Nolan stepped into the sea, he was only wearing his underwear.

He stood in the ankle-deep water, feeling the waves surging up and lapping at his feet, then turned and waved to Yan Zhen.

"Xia Xia!"

Yan Zhen looked at him from a distance and said, "Go."

Nolan felt a slight stirring in his heart at her unwavering trust in him, which showed no doubt that he would never return.

He turned and ran a few steps before leaping into the sea.

Yan Zhen sat down on the beach, brushed the sand off Nolan's clothes, and then folded them up and put them aside.

Nolan remained submerged for more than ten minutes. When he reappeared, the moon emerged from the clouds, its light spilling onto the sea and illuminating his tail fin, which was now exposed above the water, with a pale blue glow.

Yan Zhen took out his phone and snapped a picture of the scene.

Nolan noticed her movements, and, feeling playful, swam to the surface of the sea not far from her and began to show off his beautiful tail with all sorts of high-difficulty poses that humans could not possibly perform.

Yan Zhen was both amused and exasperated by his slightly greasy behavior.

Seeing that Nolan was having a great time swimming and wouldn't be coming up anytime soon, Yan Zhen turned on his phone's flashlight and started looking for small seashells on the beach.

She had just picked up a few when Nolan swam to shallow water and came over to look at her spoils.

Upon seeing the size of the seashell in her hand, he said disdainfully, "It's so small and not pretty either. I'll get you a bigger one."

After he finished speaking, he turned and plunged into the sea, disappearing from sight with a flick of his tail fin.

Twenty minutes later, Nolan returned.

He shoved a giant clam shell the size of a basketball into Yan Zhen's arms and said, "Here you go."

Yan Zhen was startled, as if he had been given a hot potato. He quickly looked around and, seeing that no one was around, whispered, "Tridacna is a Class I protected species in China. It's illegal to bring it ashore. You should put it back right away."

Upon hearing this, Nolan frowned and said, "That's your human law, not our mermaid law."

"That won't do either." Yan Zhen quickly returned the "prison life imprisonment shell" to him. "Listen to me, put it back where it belongs."

Nolan then reluctantly hugged the giant clam and turned back into the sea.

Twenty minutes later, Nolan returned, this time carrying a dozen or so conches of various shapes and brightly colored seashells.

When he got to Yan Zhen, he dumped everything onto the sand at her feet with a "whoosh": "Where are these?"

Yan Zhen used his phone's flashlight to carefully examine the items, confirming that they were not protected species, before saying, "These are fine."

She picked up the conch shells and seashells one by one, put them in the hem of her clothes, and prepared to take them home.

Seeing this, Nolan leaned over and nudged her arm with his head: "Do you like it?"

"I like it." Yan Zhen knew he was here to get praise as soon as he saw his action, so he casually patted his head.

Nolan squinted his eyes as he was touched, his expression visibly happy: "What else do you want? I'll go get it for you."

Yan Zhen: "..."

"Want some manta rays? Or bioluminescent jellyfish? I can find some giant sea cucumbers!" Nolan got more and more excited as he spoke. "I'm amazing at catching bluefin tuna, I can catch ones much bigger than me, do you want some?"
