Chapter 8, Little Mouse, You Can't Escape Now!
After the elite class's field training ended, summer vacation arrived for students across the country.
Hunter's Hall.
The place is bustling with people; it feels like a large trading hall or a large job fair.
Looking at the long queue, Lu Jie knew that the city's monster-hunting team was recruiting.
Suddenly, he saw a dark-skinned man wearing a long cloak-like sweatshirt and a hat. Judging from his build, Lu Jie recognized him.
Isn't that Mo Fan?
However, he didn't go up to say hello, since he was also disguised.
"What kind of people are these? Do they think the city's monster hunting team is a leisurely job where you just sit around and wait to eat the government's rice bowl?" said a burly man with bandages wrapped around his head behind the recruitment desk.
"Captain, don't rush. With so many people applying today, there's bound to be some good ones!" said the man with a round head wearing a beret.
"This wind element is quite good; it has mastered the second-level wind track," said a woman who looked rather frail.
"I'm enough for the wind element, why would we need anyone else?" said the person wearing a shirt with long hair.
Just as the group was talking, the receptionist rushed in.
"Captain Xu... Captain Xu, a lightning mage and a plant mage want to join our city's monster-hunting team?"
"Really?" Upon hearing this, Xu Dahuang perked up and looked towards the recruitment line with shining eyes.
The same applies to the other team members.
A Thunder Mage! A rare find indeed!!
A plant mage! This is even rarer!!
Captain Xu, also known as Xu Dahuang, came out from backstage, which surprised the girl who was recruiting.
"Captain Xu, would you like to conduct the interviews in person?"
"Interview? What kind of interview? Aren't they my teammates who were stranded elsewhere?" Xu Dahuang turned around and said with a puzzled look.
Recruiting girls: ...
Other team members: ...
No, Captain, how did such a stiff beard manage to grow out of your thick skin?
Stepping outside, Xu Dahuang looked at a man with a dark complexion and wearing a half-mask, and asked, "Which of you is the Thunder Mage? Which one is the Plant Mage?"
Mo Fan, whose face was somewhat dark, first revealed his lightning element, scorching a small hole in the tablecloth.
Wearing a half-mask, Lu Jie stretched out his hand, and a tender plant sprout appeared in his palm.
Xu Dahuang's face lit up with a smile, and he nodded happily. Then he shouted to the people still in line, "You don't need to line up anymore, we've hired people!"
His shout immediately displeased those in line, who complained incessantly. However, upon hearing that the city's monster-hunting team had recruited a plant mage and a lightning mage, they instantly fell silent.
Then, like defeated roosters, they left with their heads drooping.
Immediately, Xu Dahuang led the two of them inside.
He first had his team members introduce themselves, and then it was their turn.
"My name is Fan Mo," said Mo Fan, whose face was somewhat dark.
"Just call me Qianjie," Lu Jie said.
When you're out in the world, you give yourself your own identity.
"Qianjie, Fanmo, I've seen your blank resumes, which means you're just rookies who haven't even really seen any demons. So I have to remind you, don't think you're something special just because you have lightning or plant-type abilities. Be careful when you encounter demons!" said a woman with some beauty.
Isn't this the famous Guo Caitang?
Mo Fan recognized him at a glance, remembering that he had once peeked at other people taking a bath.
It has to be said that this woman has a pretty good figure; she's curvy in all the right places.
Just then, a phone call came in, saying that a female student from Mingwen Girls' High School had gone missing.
When Mo Fan first heard the words "the cafeteria is shaking," his eyes gleamed with an inexplicable light.
He thought he could just sit back and watch the drama unfold, but after hearing the words "Mingwen Girls' High School," he instantly lost his composure.
He borrowed a phone from Fei Shi, who was wearing a beret, but when he dialed it, the phone was out of service.
Then he rushed out the door, hailed a taxi, and headed straight for his aunt's house.
On the other side, the demon-hunting team was also ready and headed directly towards the Inscription Girls' Middle School.
Normally, missing persons are not under their jurisdiction, but since a monk discovered traces of something that is not human, this should be their responsibility!
Immediately, they set off, driving towards Mingwen Girls' Middle School in Mingwen District.
When the demon-hunting team arrived at Mingwen Girls' Middle School, they saw Mo Fan standing alone at the school gate, seemingly lost in thought.
"Hey, you arrived before us?" The speaker was their vice-captain, Guo Caitang.
"Did you find anything?" Now is not the time to ask such questions, Guo Caitang went straight to the point.
Mo Fan explained some of the information he had gathered, and Guo Caitang then made personnel arrangements accordingly.
Fanmo and Qianjie went to the cafeteria, while the rest of them went to the teaching building, Mingwen Park, the dormitory, and the playground.
With their tasks assigned, they each headed to their respective locations.
After entering the cafeteria, Lu Jie and Mo Fan carefully observed the situation inside.
It was quiet inside, but you could often smell the stench of spoiled food mixed with the smell of sewage.
"Damn, it stinks!" Mo Fan couldn't help but curse, turning to look at Qian Jie beside him, only to find that the man remained expressionless.
Wow, this guy is really good at holding his breath! He can smell such a stench without even flinching!
Was he a ninja?
But what is he looking at?
Seeing Qian Jie staring intently in one direction, Mo Fan followed his gaze and saw a rat about the size of a small car!
"Holy crap, there really are demons!" Mo Fan exclaimed softly.
Those eyes, almost the size of a basketball, could it be...?
Lu Jie licked his lips. "Little mouse, you're not getting away today!"
Wood Release: Great Forest Technique!
With a clap of his hands, Lu Jie extended his right arm, and a fleeting emerald green star trail appeared.
Several wooden vines quickly stretched out from these emerald green star trails, heading straight for the little mouse that was feasting.
Seemingly sensing danger, the mouse's one eye, as big as a basketball, darted around, and then it used its strong and powerful limbs to leap up and avoid the entangled wooden vines.
However, what the mouse didn't expect was that the vine branches weren't straight; they could bend!
Just as it leaped away, the vines curved and followed closely behind the little mouse.
Finally, the mouse strip got tangled up and let out a squeak.
After Lu Jie finished dealing with the giant-eyed rat, a smile appeared on his face. "Little rat, you can't escape now!"
