Chapter 39 No Using Wands While Eating Hot Pot!
Chapter 39 No Using Wands While Eating Hot Pot!
Seeing Lorne staring at the last line of the menu, the senior student who was working part-time as a waiter enthusiastically introduced the menu:
"Junior, would you like to order a 'Roasted Frosty Soul'?"
Lorne naturally shook his head. He didn't have any monster enemies he disliked, so he wouldn't issue a kill order for them for no reason.
However, he also asked out of curiosity:
"Can we capture any level of magical beast? What about fourth-tier ones? Will the instructors personally handle it?"
The fourth tier corresponds to the level of advanced magic degrees. High-ranking human mages and dwarven sages belong to this level. In the context of magical beasts, this level represents a certain level of intelligence, making them kings among magical beasts and extremely powerful.
Most of the faculty members in the academy are at this level. Do you really think they would personally go out of their way just to help their students find a single ingredient?
Won't this incite hatred between humans and monsters?
The senior student replied with a smile:
"We will ask a fourth-year student who is pursuing an advanced magic degree to capture it. Rest assured, we have professional capture procedures and confidentiality protocols. We will also review the monster's past behavior and will only proceed with the capture after confirming that it has committed any evil deeds."
"Fourth grade?"
"They are senior students who, after meeting the academy's graduation standards and becoming mid-level magicians, still choose to stay at the academy to pursue higher advanced magic degrees."
Oh, so you're a PhD student.
Lorne certainly couldn't afford to hire a senior mage who was a high-ranking mage to cook for him, and there weren't many dishes on the menu that he could afford. After some deliberation, he ordered "Basic Soup Base Ingredient Pack", "Assorted Magical Platter (Raw)", "Self-Service Seasoning Set", "Raw Meat Platter", and so on.
There's also a pot.
Upon seeing this, the senior student's expression became subtle: "Junior, are you sure? These are all semi-finished products, not finished dishes."
Lorne waved his hand: "Never mind that, just go for it."
The senior student hesitated for a moment before leaving and turning to go to the kitchen.
Viola's brows furrowed into a deep frown, which looked especially adorable on her delicate and beautiful face.
"Lorne, are you alright? If you're short on money, I'll treat you. You don't need to order these... weird things."
Lorne didn't explain, but just smiled slightly: "Lend me your wands for a moment."
Apprentice magicians and novice magicians are not yet proficient in magic and cannot cast spells instantly like senior students and experienced magicians. Most of them need the assistance of a wand. As a descendant of the Norton family, Viola naturally had a wand prepared for her by her family long ago.
Thormont's father was also a seasoned wizard, and he had prepared a wand for him as well.
Viola was puzzled, but she still pulled out a short staff about half the length of her forearm from her sleeve.
Boom!
The ground trembled slightly.
Tormont also pulled out a wand that was as long as his thigh and as thick as his calf.
Looking at the huge tree stump in front of him, Lorne was silent for two seconds before telling him to put it away so it wouldn't hit other students.
A moment later, the senior returned carrying a large tray with several small bowls and dishes of ingredients on it: meat, egg, sliced mushrooms, and a variety of powders and sauces specified by Lorne.
"Everything's ready." The senior put down the tray, crossed his arms, and stood to the side, intending to see how Lorne would handle the raw ingredients.
So Lorne borrowed his wand as well.
Amidst everyone's puzzled gazes, Lorne began a strange and mysterious ritual. He first processed the spices using some method, then poured the broth into a pot. Next, he picked up the small bowls and added ingredients to the broth one by one: a spoonful of salt, a spoonful of unknown powder, and a few drops of amber liquid...
Soon, the broth began to bubble, and the milky white soup gradually turned into a rich, bright red. A strong, pungent aroma rose from the pot, like an invisible hand gently hooking the noses of everyone present.
"It smells so good..." Viola unconsciously swallowed.
Thormont's nostrils flared wildly, and he almost drooled onto Lorne's head.
The senior student who was working part-time as a waiter stood there, holding an empty tray, staring intently at the pot of boiling soup, his throat bobbing up and down.
I thought this junior would mix all sorts of ingredients together and create some kind of culinary disaster, but I didn't expect it to taste so damn sweet.
Amidst the puzzled and shocked gazes of the crowd, Lorne picked up two wands with his fingers, rinsed them in the water, then picked up a slice of Frostblade Tiger meat as thin as a cicada's wing, dipped it a few times in the boiling soup until it turned from bright red to light pink, and finally took it out, dipped it in the condiment bowl, and put it in his mouth.
He squinted his eyes, a look of satisfaction on his face.
Viola stared at the red ink covering her wand, utterly disgusted: "Lorne, what are you doing with my wand?!"
That magic wand was made with a core of a unicorn's tail hair that her father had specially sought out, and it was worth three thousand gold coins!
"Making potions," Lorne said, picking up another piece of meat, rolling it in the sauce, and stuffing it into his mouth. He mumbled, "This potion recipe is a family heirloom. You guys should try it too."
What kind of potion recipe is this? It looks more like some kind of weird dish!
Viola really wanted to complain, but the strange aroma was like a demon that crawled into her nose and into her brain, making her stomach rumble with hunger. She finally couldn't resist and, like Lorne, picked up a fork, speared a slice of meat, and put it into the pot. She then cooked it with the dipping sauce, just like Lorne did, and her eyes suddenly lit up in a frightening way.
At that moment, Viola felt as if her entire taste buds were being frantically attacked by a unicorn; the spicy, stimulating, and inexplicably delicious flavor almost sent her to heaven.
"This grass is so delicious!"
Having lived in a culinary desert since childhood, Viola couldn't resist such temptation. She instantly forgot about her two thousand gold coins worth of magic wand and aristocratic etiquette, transforming into a culinary warrior with her cheeks puffed out like two hamsters.
Tormont, standing next to him, was also using a large pair of tongs to imitate picking up meat, stuffing it directly into his mouth regardless of whether it was hot or not.
"Slow down!" Lorne quickly stopped him. "That's enough for five people!"
With his mouth full of meat, Thormont mumbled, "It's okay, I can still eat five servings."
The commotion drew the attention of others; several students glanced at it repeatedly, sniffed, and then shouted:
"Waiter, bring us one of these too!"
The senior student who was working part-time as a waiter next to him said:
"I'm so sorry, the cafeteria doesn't serve this kind of dish. This junior student prepared it himself."
"Oh? Since when did the cafeteria start discriminating between people and not serving us?"
A proud voice rang out, accompanied by a powerful pressure.
The man who spoke wore an extraordinary robe, clearly indicating his wealth and nobility. Several other people around him also possessed remarkable presence. Upon hearing the words, they all turned their heads indifferently, causing elemental fluctuations to ripple and the air around them to distort.
They're all mid-level mages!
