Chapter 47 The Book of Prophecy with Hidden Secrets
Chapter 47 The Book of Prophecy with Hidden Secrets
Do you want to know?
Freys asked.
Will you let me know?
Lynn leaned back, adjusting to a more comfortable sitting position, and squinted slightly.
"Why not?"
As Freya spoke, she took out a dark gold rectangular wooden box from the drawer and carefully opened it.
Inside lay a thick leather book.
The cover has no text, only countless intertwined golden patterns, exuding an unusual magical aura.
"This is a grimoire created by the great sage Evisch during the mythical era. It does not record the past, but only presents the future."
Lynn's eyelids twitched when he heard the name Evisch.
After all, the Dominion Stone Ring worn by Mahat was made by this great sage.
"So, you used this to foresee the future? That's why you decided to let the Shadow Warrior assassinate Celia?"
"You could say that."
Freys gently traced the cover with her fingers. "This book records all the major events that will occur within the Empire over the next two years. Tonight's ball, as recorded in the book, is a turning point that will change the fate of the Empire."
She paused, then looked up at Lynn: "Interestingly, there's no mention of you in the accounts of the ball and the two years that followed."
Lynn frowned slightly, but quickly relaxed.
This is not surprising, because Celia had previously stated that she possessed a higher level of precognitive ability, which is why she could not be observed by lower-level precognitives.
This book of prophecy doesn't contain any of my own records, probably for the same reason.
"Maybe someone as insignificant as me isn't worthy of being in there."
Lynn couldn't easily reveal his precognitive abilities, so he just said it casually.
"Given your strength, as someone on Celia's side, it's impossible for you to be unrecorded. Unless..."
Freyston paused. "You just vanished like thin air."
"That's a really scary thing to say."
Lynn gave a dramatic shiver. "Could I see how it's recorded in the book?"
Freys gestured for them to proceed.
Lynn didn't stand on ceremony. With his future vision activated just in case of a trap, he leaned over and opened the book of prophecy.
The paper has a peculiar texture, like the skin of some kind of creature.
The text above wasn't written on; it was slowly moving around.
The duration of the futuristic vision is decreasing, but fortunately, no danger warning has been triggered.
Lynn casually turned a page, and his gaze immediately froze:
"Isn't my name on it?"
He pointed to a line of text at the top of the page, a smile just beginning to appear on his lips, but it vanished the moment he saw the words.
The wandering text quickly rearranged, revealing a chilling message: Lynn had been reading Evie's prophecy book in the Magic Special Agent Captain's room and was transported two years into the future.
My fingers froze on the paper.
In an instant, the surrounding sounds disappeared.
Freys's presence also disappeared.
Lynn looked up; the room was empty, and Freys was nowhere to be seen.
"No way."
Lynn was completely stunned.
Immediately afterward, the paper beneath my fingertips felt dry to the touch, and the gold patterns on it lost their luster.
The unsettling magic above has completely vanished.
This so-called book of prophecy is now nothing but a pile of waste paper.
It was only at this moment that Lynn understood.
The reason I didn't appear in Celie's precognitive dream was not because I possessed a high level of precognitive ability that made me unobservable.
It was because on the night of the ball, he was no longer at that time!
"How could this be!"
Lynn smacked his lips and walked to the window, only to find that it was already morning outside.
The outline of the capital city hasn't changed much.
Lynn pushed open the door, and the furnishings in the corridor were no different from what she remembered.
"We need to find someone to ask what time it is now and what exactly happened in the past."
After calming down a bit, Lynn decided to ask someone.
Just as he turned the corner, he bumped into a young girl carrying books and walking in a hurry.
Brown bun hairstyle, familiar mage robe, and seemed slightly taller.
"Laopen?"
Lynn excitedly called out her name.
The other person suddenly stopped in their tracks, nearly dropping the several heavy books in their arms.
"What? Don't you recognize me?"
Lynn tentatively waved.
Laofen hurriedly clutched the book to her chest, her voice trembling noticeably, "Lin...Lin! Where did you come from? Where have you been these past two years?"
Lynn pointed to the captain's office behind him, looking helpless. "Would you believe me if I said I just came out of this room?"
Laofen didn't reply. She looked Lynn up and down, and after confirming that this wasn't some kind of illusion, her eyes quickly reddened. "Is it really you?"
Lynn nodded slightly and said, "Can you tell me what exactly happened at the ball back then?"
Laofen sniffed and said, "After the ball years ago, Lady Celia disappeared, and you vanished into thin air too. We can't find you anywhere."
"Selie has disappeared?" Lynn frowned.
He initially thought he could change the outcome of Celia's assassination, but unexpectedly, he was kicked out of the game himself.
It's true that man proposes, God disposes.
Let's talk as we walk.
Laofen led him deeper into the palace. "After the assassination attempt on Lady Celia, the palace was thrown into chaos. It was Old Master Duncan who stepped in to stabilize the situation. I saw that he was too busy, so I stayed to assist him."
Laofen pointed to the book she was holding. "I'm his assistant now."
"That's pretty good."
"And you? Answer my question from earlier first: where have you been these past two years?"
Laofen asked, "I've searched the entire capital, but I can't find any news of you. It's as if you've vanished from the face of the earth."
"Don't even mention it, I was outmaneuvered by the former captain of the magic special agents."
Lynn didn't explain much, "Is Mr. Duncan here? I'd like to see him."
"I'll take you there."
As she spoke, Laofen turned and led the way.
The two walked through the corridor and came to a heavy wooden door.
Laofen raised her hand and knocked on the door.
"Come in."
The sounds from inside the room were weary.
Laofen pushed open the door and led Lynn inside.
Inside the room, an elderly man with a thick, long beard and a monocle over his left eye was sitting behind a desk processing documents.
"Mr. Duncan, how have you been?"
Lynn greeted him.
Upon hearing this, Duncan paused instantly, his quill pen still.
She looked up at Lynn, then glanced at Laofen, before returning her gaze to Lynn: "Lynn? Where have you been these past two years?"
"Captain Freys invited me for a cup of tea, but it took a while."
Lynn spread his hands with a wry smile.
"Fresh? She stepped down a year ago, and her whereabouts are currently unknown."
Duncan said slowly.
"He's stepped down?"
Lynn hadn't expected this.
"Sit down, I'd like to hear your story. In exchange, I can tell you what's happened in the last two years."
Duncan said.
Lynn immediately sat down in the chair opposite Duncan.
Laofen immediately poured tea for the two of them, then quietly stood behind Duncan.
"Old man, I really have nothing to say, because the two years you mentioned have only passed in the blink of an eye for me."
Lynn gave a wry smile.
Duncan's gaze darkened. "You mean, you've traveled through time?"
"That's right."
Lynn nodded. "So what's the situation now?"
"The soldiers in the film have all been put on trial."
Duncan said, "After Seria's disappearance, the deterrent power of the entire Continental Magic Association has been greatly diminished. Although Falshau is trying his best to maintain it, signs of unrest are already emerging in various places."
