Chapter 36 Levi's Invitation
Chapter 36 Levi's Invitation
In a room of a nobleman's residence, Levi was standing in front of a mirror, adjusting his tie.
His black and gold-trimmed aristocratic attire was impeccable, and his tie was perfectly tied.
dong dong dong.
A knock came at the door.
"Enter."
Levi didn't turn around, continuing to adjust his cuffs.
The door opened, and the old butler walked in.
"Hert, word has come that the swordsman you mentioned went to see Kress, but Kress said he was unfathomable and didn't dare to make any rash moves."
The old steward said.
"I never expected someone like this to suddenly appear at this critical juncture. It seems that if we want to accomplish great things, we must first resolve this matter."
Realizing that this person was indeed worthy of his attention, Levi made a decision: "Please invite this person to my residence. I want to meet him in person."
"...Also, old man, don't call me Hert anymore, I'm Levi now."
……
Upon arriving at Wolf's tavern, Lynn and Laoffen headed straight for the bar.
Behind the bar, a man was wiping glasses.
The man had slightly long blond hair, fine wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, and his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing his muscular forearms.
Those are the muscle lines left by years of drawing a bow.
This man was Wolf.
Lynn walked straight to the bar and pulled out a high stool to sit down.
Laofen sat beside him, her staff resting against her legs.
"What would you two like to drink?"
A girl with pigtails walked over carrying a tray, a cute smile on her face.
It was Iris.
"Give me a glass of ale."
Lynn looked at Raofen and asked, "What would you like to drink?"
"Anything but alcohol is fine."
Laofen answered.
The tavern only has alcohol and...
"Add a cup of... water."
Lynn placed a silver coin on the table and gently pushed it forward.
Iris put away the silver coins and turned to walk towards the bar.
Wolf put down his glass behind the bar, picked up a bottle of wine, poured it into his glass, and brown foam appeared.
At this moment, Lynn's gaze passed over Wolf's shoulder and landed on the wall behind him.
There hung a bow and nine arrows spread out in a fan shape.
"please."
Wolf pushed the wine glass toward Lynn.
Lynn looked away, picked up his glass, sniffed it, and then said:
"This wine is undrinkable."
After saying that, he pushed the wine glass back to the center of the bar.
"The guest doesn't like it?"
Wolf's voice was calm. "If it doesn't suit your taste, we can offer something else. We have rye or fruit wine."
"That's not the issue."
Lynn rested his elbows on the bar and leaned forward. "There's a bloody smell in this drink."
Laofen, who was drinking water next to Lynn, paused for a moment, glanced at Lynn, then swallowed the water as if nothing had happened, and her big eyes darted back and forth between the two of them.
"The guest is really joking."
Wolf rested his hands on the edge of the bar, his face expressionless. "How could there be a bloody taste in the drink?"
"The liquor might not have been in the bottle; it probably got on your hands."
Lynn said.
Despite sensing the provocation in his words, Wolf's expression remained calm as he spoke indifferently:
"It seems the guests aren't here to drink."
"This wine is not something I wanted to drink."
Lynn chuckled, "I felt uncomfortable being watched where I lived, so I had to come out and find somewhere to relieve my boredom."
"Being watched? That can be quite bothersome."
Wolf's tone remained indifferent. "But what does this have to do with my tavern? Do the customers think I sent them?"
"Let's not worry about whether it concerns you or not. I just came to give you a heads-up, as a way of asking you to pass on a message."
Lynn said, "I hate trouble, and I don't want to be some kind of hero. You can kill whoever you want, and pull whatever tricks you want, but..."
"...Please tell that one-eyed nobleman to have his men stay away from us."
"Yes, stay away from us."
Laofen nodded in agreement, slamming her staff on the ground with a dull thud.
Upon hearing the words "one-eyed nobleman," a sharp glint flashed in Wolf's eyes, but it disappeared in an instant.
Iris stood not far away, her hand secretly reaching for the flying needles under her skirt.
She would pounce on Wolf with just a glance.
But Wolf did not move.
He is a smart man, and smart men never fight battles they are not sure they can win.
Since the other party dared to walk in with two people and even dared to lay their cards on the table, they must have some trump cards up their sleeve.
Moreover, if we were to actually make a move here, the commotion would be too great and would alert the magic special forces.
"It seems our staff has indeed caused you trouble."
Wolf replied in his usual calm tone, "I will convey your message."
"That's good."
Lynn stood up and called to Laofen, "Let's go."
Laofen jumped off the high stool and followed behind Lynn.
……
After Lynn and Wolf left, Wolf stood behind the bar, motionless for a long time.
"Manager..."
Iris walked over and called out softly.
"He's definitely a problem."
Wolf looked down at the glass of ale on the bar, a murderous glint in his eyes.
For a brief moment just now, he did indeed have murderous intent.
But the moment the young man turned around, the fear of being completely seen through made him stop in his tracks.
I have to admit, this young man is a master.
Moreover, he was an expert who knew them inside and out.
"Well, at least the business wasn't ruined."
Wolf sighed, picked up the glass of ale that Lynn had rejected, and poured it into the sink.
……
Stepping out of the tavern, the noise returned to my ears.
Laofen followed beside Lynn, casually holding her staff, her expression as calm as ever, as if the tense scene just moments ago had never happened.
"Mr. Lynn, will they listen to you and stop?" Laofen asked.
"They are all smart people; they should know how to weigh the pros and cons."
Lynn said, "I've made my position clear, and I hope they can weigh it for themselves."
This group is disciplined and has goals; several of them were once heroic warriors who protected humanity. As long as we don't get in their way, they don't want to cause any trouble.
Afterwards, Lynn and Laoffen strolled around the market and bought a lot of supplies.
Dry rations, water bags, and some warm clothing.
The next leg of the journey involves crossing the snow-capped mountains in the north, so we must be well prepared.
When I returned to the hotel, the hotel owner was standing behind the counter with a worried look on his face.
Upon seeing Lynn and the other person return, the boss hesitated to speak.
"What's wrong, boss?"
Lynn walked over.
"Um...two guests."
The portly proprietor rubbed his hands together, looking embarrassed. "I'm so sorry, but an esteemed gentleman just came to say that this entire hotel has been booked, and we might need to hire two people..."
"Turn them away?"
Lynn frowned.
"No, no, no, I'm not kicking people out."
The boss quickly waved his hand, "That gentleman said that he has already arranged excellent rooms for you two in the city, and he will send someone to pick you up shortly."
Lynn squinted.
Are they luring the enemy directly into a trap? That's a brilliant move.
"Which sir?" Lynn asked.
"He didn't leave his name; he was an old butler of a nobleman."
"That's what the boss said."
"OK."
Lynn smiled. "Since someone has sincerely invited us, we have no reason to refuse."
After the two packed their luggage and left the hotel, a luxurious carriage was already waiting at the door.
The driver, dressed in a crisp uniform, respectfully opened the car door. "Please, gentlemen."
Lynn nodded and climbed into the carriage.
The carriage was carpeted with soft carpet and had a faint fragrance.
"That's pretty good treatment."
Laofen followed her in and sat down on the cushion.
"Let's see what they're up to this time."
Lynn rubbed her temples.
