Chapter 49 I will become the next Kyrie!
The school food problem could be solved with a simple bidding process. Owen only made a preliminary mention, and Professor McGonagall already knew what to do. So there was no need for the young wizard to be distracted. What he really needed to know was the workings of the castle and so on.
After leaving the professor's office, it was dinnertime. Today, Owen sat at the Gryffindor long table and made a point of observing the dining situation. To be honest, it was not good!
Older people can control their food intake and won't starve themselves or overeat, but many younger people can't. They seem to want to burst with food.
This unrestrained eating habit isn't something that just started today. The most restrained are the Slytherins, because of their background, they at least maintain table manners. The most undisciplined are the Hufflepuffs, because they live so close to the kitchen that they can eat without any restrictions. As for the Ravenclaws, while they have a strong academic atmosphere, their behavior of dipping chicken legs in broth and writing on the table still needs improvement.
After finishing his meal, Owen walked to the grass outside the castle and sat down, completely relaxed. Soon, someone came running out carrying a thick notebook and sat down opposite him: "Owen, there are so many things I don't understand..."
"Hermione, please wait ten minutes."
Ten minutes later, the grass was full of people, with the second, third and fourth graders being the most numerous. The first-year wizards couldn't squeeze in at all and could only listen from the side.
"Last year, as freshmen, you only had a basic understanding of what magic is and how to use it. This year, regardless of your grade, you are all exposed to new courses that are much more difficult than last year's. This is normal. But you need to grasp one point: for you, magic has no talent barriers. Being able to come to school is proof of your talent. What you lack is actually understanding."
Owen took Hermione's notebook, looked at the questions on it, and chuckled softly, "In your understanding, are different hand gestures and incantations necessary for casting spells?"
Irving raised his right hand, extended his index finger, and a ball of light the size of a soccer ball appeared at his fingertip. The soft light, not dazzling, instantly illuminated the entire field of grass.
Even first-year students who have only been enrolled for a few days know what this magic is, because it is the first lesson in spells for everyone: the Illumination Charm.
After demonstrating his silent, wandless spellcasting once more, Owen took out his small wand, calmly twirled it in the air, and chanted, "Flicker."
A ball of light the size of a washbasin reappeared, floating in the air just like the previous one.
"Can you see the difference?"
The young wizards nodded. Who couldn't see it? One was big, the other small; it was too obvious.
"The hand gestures are for drawing runes, while the spells are for better utilizing our own magical power. Combining the two makes it easier for us to cast the corresponding spells. Therefore, the spells we are learning now are simplified. We only need to mechanically reproduce them to use the corresponding spells. Do you think this is good or bad?"
No one spoke; the young wizards were all lost in thought. Of course, not everyone was like that. Some of the simpler-minded ones were just confused. Looking at Ron behind Hermione, Owen had no idea why the young man had come over.
"This method stifles the emergence of geniuses, making wizards in the magical world mediocre and making it difficult for legendary wizards like Dumbledore to appear again. But on second thought, this simplification method has increased the number of wizards, allowing the wizarding tradition to be passed down more effectively."
Irving smiled at everyone and said, word by word, "So, we can start with mediocre learning, and through hard work, become geniuses, just like... Fluorescent Radiance!"
This time, the incantation remained the same, but the hand gestures used for casting the spell underwent a subtle change. The light that reappeared was no longer as gentle as before, but instantly illuminated the entire Hogwarts, as if it were dawn.
Irving doesn't see his studies as burdensome; he finds learning difficult simply because he hasn't found his goals, which is a problem with his perception.
So what he needs to do now, or what the professors want him to do, is to become a role model for the students, so that they have a clear, tangible, and meaningful goal to strive for.
After the light faded, Owen continued, "Perhaps some of you think that waving your wands and reciting spells repeatedly is boring and tedious, but do you know what? I can do this because I have practiced each spell thousands of times. What you see as repetition and construction is, for me, an instinct."
"But we've never seen anyone practice this hard before!"
Irving glanced at Ron, who was speaking, and shook his head, saying, "I don't have the habit of showing off my efforts because I don't need other people's approval or praise."
The little wizards' eyes lit up with stars—that line was so cool!
Hermione raised her hand and said, "But we can't use wands outside of school, so how are we supposed to practice?"
"You can use tree branches instead to practice casting gestures and incantations."
Hermione slapped herself on the head hard, her forehead turning red: "How could I not have thought of that!"
Looking at the little witch with regret, Owen chuckled and reached out his hand. A shimmering white light enveloped his palm, and he pressed it against the little witch's forehead. "It's not too late now, or rather, it's never too late to start working hard. Alright everyone, time's up. I have to go back now. If you have any questions, we can continue after dinner tomorrow."
Owen withdrew his hand, and the little witch's forehead returned to its smooth, white state. Then he ascended to the sky, spun in the air, and flew towards the castle.
The young wizards who had been sitting on the ground also got up in twos and threes and walked back with excited expressions.
Studying while feeling lost is exhausting, but once the goal is within reach, learning becomes less tedious. It's just a matter of practicing a mantra a thousand times over. If Irving could do it, so can they...
I will definitely be the next Kyrie Irving!!!
"So you think talent isn't important?"
Taking the medicine from Professor Snape, Owen glanced at the color of the potion and then quickly began processing it: "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration, but without that one percent, you'll never reach one hundred percent."
Snape nodded. "That's right. Once you've finished this potion, take it with you."
Energy potions can revitalize someone when they are mentally exhausted and restore their energy. This pot... is enough for ten people. It wasn't prepared for him at all, but rather to use him to deliver these potions to the little snakes, since there are exactly ten new Slytherin students this year.
"Professor, you know, I have a magic that can quickly put people into a deep sleep, restoring their physical strength and energy in the shortest amount of time."
With his back to the young wizard, the slick-haired professor's lips curled into a smile, but his tone remained unchanged: "Whatever!"
