Chapter 10 Prologue
Chapter 10 Prologue
The Caesar's Legion, located east of the Colorado River, was a slave-owning state modeled after the pre-war Roman Empire, and its leader called himself Caesar.
However, he came from the followers of Apocalypse who were dedicated to teaching knowledge, providing medical care, and helping people live better lives in the wasteland.
He later broke away from the followers of the Apocalypse, and after helping one tribe defeat another and becoming its leader, he began to annex other tribes and regions, establishing Caesar's Legion.
The current Caesar's Legion has annexed many tribes and regions, controlling a large area east of the Colorado River, and its national size is close to that of the New California Republic.
Because of the slavery practiced by Caesar's legions, women in the occupied territories and indigenous tribes were enslaved, deprived of personal freedom, and subjected to absolute restrictions on their personal rights.
All male rebels were killed or nailed to the cross to die slowly, while those who agreed to join had all their original tribal and organizational characteristics erased and were then incorporated into Caesar's Legion.
Caesar was very strict in managing his army. Behaviors like those in New Vegas were seen as signs of corruption and were not allowed in the legion.
At the same time, soldiers in the legion are often subjected to very severe punishments if they fail to carry out a mission.
Furthermore, some wandering merchants who came from areas controlled by Caesar's Legion also recounted some of the situation there.
Within Caesar's Legion, knowledge was restricted; not everyone had the opportunity to learn, and members who spread knowledge, such as the followers of the Apocalypse, were hunted down by Caesar's orders.
It was under these circumstances that the members of Caesar's Legion regarded Caesar himself as a god, and Caesar's command of the Legion to swallow up one wasteland tribe after another made this perception unquestionable in the minds of the Legion members.
Of course, among those wandering merchants, there are also obvious advantages to doing business within the territory of Caesar's Legion. One of them is that there are no bandit activities within its territory, so there is no need to hire any mercenaries to protect the caravan.
However, there is one premise: merchants who engage in price gouging or similar practices when selling goods usually do not survive.
After hearing about the news from Caesar's Legion, Huo Yuhao didn't think there was any way to get back there.
While Caesar's Legion did some things very well, it did far more badly.
Of course, from Huo Yuhao's perspective, there are quite a few problems with these two things.
Unlike the New California Republic, Caesar's Legion did not levy taxes on civilians that required some to sell their livestock and farmland.
However, the taxes collected by Caesar's legion were forcibly added to the legion in the form of human labor.
It is rare to find ghouls and super mutants with rationality in the Legion. They openly hold citizenship in the New California Republic and are also present in the military.
However, Huo Yuhao still remembered Marcus, the super mutant from New California, whom he met in the Mojave.
He had once served as the sheriff of Broken Hill, and now he was leading his contemporaries—who had been turned into super mutants by a forced evolution virus using a cult leader who had been dead for over a hundred years—out of New California to Mojave.
According to him, this was in addition to keeping an eye on some of the mentally unstable and chaotic mutant Nightcrawlers who overused Invisible Boy.
At the same time, with the development of New California, in addition to bringing a large number of unemployed, propertyless and indebted people to Mojave to make a living, people in their home country, due to their ghoul and mutant identities, were used by some legislators as a way to divert attention from their problems and began to be marginalized in New California.
Huo Yuhao didn't learn any way to get home from Marcus, and he didn't say that he was overthinking things or recommend any science fiction novels; he just comforted himself.
Although I still gained nothing, I have seen many problems that are now emerging in New California.
Most of these issues did not arouse Huo Yuhao's aversion to the slavery system implemented by Caesar's Legion.
Undeniably, Caesar's Legion did bring order to much of the area east of the Colorado River, freeing it from chaos and disorder.
However, this order is not very good, but at least there is some order, even if it causes many problems.
Just like the slave traders who appeared in the Mojave, many of them came from Caesar's Legion. It was for this reason that, in the face of Caesar's Legion's continuous westward expansion, the Mojave Desert Rangers chose to be incorporated into the Rangers of New California in order to deal with the enemy.
Huo Yuhao felt the same disgust for these slave traders and the Caesar Legion, who practiced slavery, as he did for the prostitution deals conducted by the three major families in New Vegas.
After all, whether it was the slaves who were sold or the prostitutes who were controlled by debt or addiction, their experiences and circumstances inevitably reminded him of his days in the Duke's mansion.
The young man would work with his squad to fight off slave traders and protect the safety of nearby villages and towns, fulfilling his duty as a ranger.
However, he did not think about it more deeply. He knew these things were wrong and even tried to stop them.
But these things still happen on this land, and he still longs to go home...
Everything and every problem eventually comes to a head.
As Caesar's Camp was built on the east bank of the Colorado River, the Legion's flag with the bull and the New California's double-headed bear flag faced each other across the river, and everyone knew that war was unstoppable and unavoidable.
The focus of attention for both sides is the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River.
The electricity generated by the dam from the river not only supplies New Vegas but also transmits to New California.
Huo Yuhao still remembers the shock he felt when he first saw the Hoover Dam. In this world without soul power and martial soul, people before the war built such a dam here.
For the people of the Mojave wasteland, this dam has another name: a wall from the Old World.
When I stood downstream, looking up at that high wall and watching the river rushing down from the sluice gate, I felt so small.
At the same time, I felt how incredible people in the past were to be able to complete such a project.
Now, in the year 2277, Huo Yuhao has returned to this place.
This time, however, he had no time to appreciate the scenery. Even after the war involving Apollo 1 last year, New California's strength in Mojave had not fully recovered.
However, the Caesar's Legion on the other side would not stop their operations because of this.
General Oliver of New California moved his troops to Hoover Dam to prepare for the subsequent attack by Caesar's Legion.
Meanwhile, Caesar's Legion had already sent out many small teams to sneak across to the West Coast and constantly harass New California's supply lines.
Although the war has not officially started, it has already been underway quietly.
Within the army, no one could pinpoint the exact date of the attack by Caesar's Legion, but everyone sensed that it wouldn't be long.
