23. The Little Spider's First Actions
Peter Parker has actually been happier since that attack.
Not only did his superpowers become stronger, but his life also underwent an amazing change.
Uncle Ben was appreciated by his boss at work and received a promotion and a large bonus.
With this bonus, Peter's standard of living improved significantly. He not only got new clothes and new shoes, but also had access to as much milk as he wanted.
Most importantly, the whole family had the money to get a physical examination, and he himself was perfectly healthy, with nothing wrong with him, and the hospital's machines couldn't detect anything unusual about him.
Uncle Ben's problem isn't too serious; he just has mild hypertension, which is common among middle-aged and elderly people. Aunt Mei's problem is more serious; she has a herniated disc and needs medication and rest.
After learning of this, the hospital where she often volunteered reserved a room for her and provided her with free treatment.
This made Peter realize that good people are rewarded, and that he had the ability to do something.
However, the primary goal now is to shake off the surveillance of these "strange people" around the house.
Since the Ultraman incident, he has been harassed by many media outlets. He suspects that these strange people are sent by the media to try to dig out something about Ultraman from him.
Peter put on the mask he made himself. Although it was a bit too big, his upgraded superpowers made him even more muscular. Gwen even praised him, saying he looked like he could be on TV.
Wearing the spider silk projectors he made himself and a camera around his neck, Peter jumped onto the ceiling, slowly climbed out of the window, and, following his inexplicable spider senses, quickly ran out of the monitored area under the cover of night.
"Whoosh—finally I can show off my skills!"
Peter sprayed spider silk onto the houses on both sides and "flew" happily in one direction like a swing.
Meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D. sent a message: "Codename Spider has left the surveillance area; the target is Manhattan."
Peter was unaware that his supposedly flawless plan had already been discovered. By this time, he had arrived at an inconspicuous garbage dump.
"Hey, this stinks! It stinks even worse than the poop I take after eating five pounds of meat." Peter looked disgusted as he rummaged through the garbage with a stick, finally finding a red and blue bag.
With great difficulty, the bag was torn open, revealing a note inside that read: Hell's Kitchen. Turning it over, there was more small print on the back.
After receiving the news, Peter tore the note to shreds and mixed it into the garbage before heading to Hell's Kitchen.
What he was about to do was related to the monster that attacked him that day. After searching online and with the help of Gwen and Harry, he finally identified the monster.
Vampires that feed on blood.
Peter originally wanted to seek help from the Daily Bugle, the newspaper that first reported on vampires, in order to find out some information about vampires, but he was kicked out by their reporters, who thought that Peter was trying to steal their jobs.
Peter was also quite helpless, saying that no one from the Daily Bugle believed him. Fortunately, a reporter from another newspaper later learned of the news and took the initiative to contact him.
A journalist named Eddie Block, who also publishes Ultraman photos and names Ultraman, is willing to offer Peter some help and will pay him $500 for each vampire-related photo he takes.
Five hundred dollars! Peter couldn't resist such a temptation. He was already investigating vampires anyway, and now he could kill two birds with one stone, so he readily accepted.
The camera around his neck, and the information about vampires, were provided by Eddie.
As for whether Eddie's true purpose was information about vampires or Ultraman, Peter didn't really care, since both were related to him anyway.
Swaying on his web, Peter arrived at the rooftop of an apartment building. Outside the rooftop wall, his enhanced spider-sensors, which had spread for hundreds of meters, were receiving information.
"This is such a mess, it's even worse than my chemistry teacher's hair," Peter muttered to himself.
Gunfire and shouts of killing filled the air; this was Hell's Kitchen at night, New York's hotbed of crime.
Peter began to recall the contents of the note.
The first is that vampires have blood-red eyes, pale skin, and fangs.
The second point is that vampires usually prey on marginalized individuals such as homeless people, drunkards, or people walking alone.
The third point is that vampires are vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation, silver weapons, and fatal physical damage such as decapitation.
Upon seeing this, Peter began to doubt whether this was truly the kind of vampire that attacked him. Judging from the description, apart from their appearance, were they really the same kind of creature?
The vampires that day were beaten to a pulp and still managed to heal and fly away. They couldn't possibly be that weak.
Peter scratched his head, somewhat confused. Thinking of the dock where the accident had recently occurred, he sprayed out spider silk and moved forward quickly.
Meanwhile, Matt, the Daredevil, dressed in a red and black uniform and wearing a mask, leaned against the edge of the dock warehouse, his ears twitching slightly as he listened to the sounds coming from inside.
"Hey Jack, when are we going to get something decent to eat? Lately, the elders have been forcing us to eat only homeless food. It's so stifling. Those homeless people really stink."
"Sigh, it's all because of those few unruly fellow humans. They didn't process the blood they drank, and human reporters found out. It's spreading among humans, and the higher-ups have already put pressure on us. Just bear with it. Once we get through this period, the lines to the humans will be open again, and we'll be able to drink good blood again. Maybe we can even get some foreign blood. I'm already tired of the local blood."
"Yeah, just bear with it a little longer. I caught a homeless guy today, he still has half his blood left, you can use it to suck his blood."
……
Matt overheard the entire conversation between the vampires in the warehouse.
Matt's eyes, hidden behind his mask, held an almost uncontrollable savage glint. He gently pressed the recorder button and carefully put it away; this time, he had gotten his hands on something extraordinary.
"boom!"
Matt kicked open the warehouse door. Without saying a word, he threw a UV grenade inside, then quickly slammed the door shut. A muffled explosion rang out, and then the world went silent.
Upon reopening the warehouse, they found only five pools of ashes and a mangled corpse on the ground.
Matt shook his head and prepared to leave when he suddenly sensed a figure appearing. The figure was incredibly fast and powerful, seemingly holding something in its hand, and was kicking him like a swing.
Matt nimbly jumped away, dodging the fatal blow. Then, he swung his cane and smashed it into the man's chest. The force of the impact made his hand ache. In the nick of time, he pulled out a bottle of reagent from his waist and sprayed it on the face of the stranger who attacked him.
The stranger lay down peacefully.
Matt's nose twitched slightly.
"This doesn't smell like a vampire, it's a child?"
