Chapter 22: The Wedding!
Chapter 22: The Wedding!
"Oh, right, Mother!" Li Yingxue leaned over, picked up a grape, and popped it into her mouth.
"Where did my brother go? It's been five days, and I haven't seen a trace of him."
Yang Wanqing shook her head: "He only said he was going out for a while, and left with Xiaobai. He didn't say where he was going or what he was going to do."
"Little White!" Li Yingxue instantly bristled, squeezing the grapes in her hand until juice splattered everywhere.
"It's that vixen again! When she first arrived, she kept pestering my brother to teach her accounting, and now she's even managed to steal him away!"
Seeing her daughter's sullen expression, Yang Wanqing found it amusing and teased her on purpose: "Your brother is so outstanding, who knows how many girls will be chasing after him in the future. You'll probably have countless 'sisters-in-law' by then."
"Sister-in-law?" Li Yingxue was stunned.
These two words were like a thunderclap, repeatedly exploding in her mind.
Daughter-in-law... Sister-in-law...
A scene inexplicably appeared before her eyes: a group of beautiful women surrounding her brother, while she could only stand on the outside, having to queue up just to call out "brother".
I can only be your little sister... and will always just be your little sister...
An indescribable emotion welled up inside me—bitter, stifling, and tinged with a hint of panic.
"I don't want any sister-in-law!" she suddenly shouted, her voice so loud it startled even herself.
Yang Wanqing was stunned, then chuckled: "Silly girl, your brother will have to get married eventually."
"No, no, that won't do either!" Li Yingxue's face flushed red, and she couldn't explain why she was so resistant.
"At least... at least you have to wait until I agree!"
After saying that, she ran back to her room as if fleeing and slammed the door shut.
Yang Wanqing stood in the courtyard, looking at her daughter's tightly closed door. As if remembering something, her smile gradually faded.
When Yang Wanqing found Li Yuntian, her brows were furrowed with an unyielding sorrow, and her expression was unusually complex.
She stood at the door of the study, hesitant to speak.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Li Yuntian put down the long sword he was wiping, looked up and saw her expression, and his heart tightened.
I haven't done anything lately. Did I get drunk a few days ago and say something wrong?
Or perhaps my hidden stash of money and century-old vintage wine were discovered?
"Do you still remember the marriage we made back then?" Yang Wanqing walked closer quickly, her tone clearly anxious.
"Marriage?" Li Yuntian was taken aback, many fragments flashing through his mind, but he couldn't grasp the one she was referring to:
"What wedding?"
"With your brain, what do you remember besides cultivation and drinking!" Yang Wanqing was both amused and annoyed, so she simply reached out and grabbed his ear.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch! Madam, let go!" Li Yuntian quickly begged for mercy, but dared not break free, and only obediently tilted his head.
Yang Wanqing let go of his hand and glared at him irritably.
"When we were on the run, weren't we rescued by a family surnamed Lin?" she reminded them.
"Back then, to repay a debt of gratitude, you drunkenly dragged her into proposing marriage..."
His wife's words were like a key, instantly unlocking the dusty door deep in Li Yuntian's memory.
Back then, he went through many hardships to win Yang Wanqing's heart.
However, the patriarch of the Po clan believed that even if Yang Wanqing was not a direct descendant, she was still someone Li Yuntian could not possibly aspire to.
In an effort to separate them, the clan leader even resorted to forceful measures. In his youthful arrogance, he simply eloped with Yang Wanqing overnight.
As for Yang Wanqing, she was not born into the Po clan and had never awakened the Po Soul Spear. She suffered cold treatment from childhood. Her mother died early and her father was indifferent. She had no attachment to the clan and resolutely left with him.
However, their elopement angered the Po clan, and they were relentlessly pursued.
During the most dangerous time, he was seriously injured. It was Yang Wanqing who risked her life to help him fight his way out of the encirclement. In the end, the two of them collapsed in the wilderness, and were fortunately rescued by a farming couple surnamed Lin. They hid in a simple thatched hut to recuperate.
Grateful for the other party's life-saving grace, and emboldened by a bit of alcohol, he made a grand promise—if the two families have children in the future, they will definitely become in-laws and remain friends forever.
Memories surged forth, so clear they were startling. Li Yuntian stood frozen in place, sweat beading on his back.
[Oh no, drinking has caused all this trouble!]
"You remember now?" Yang Wanqing saw the change in his expression and knew that her husband had finally remembered this old story.
"Hmm..." Li Yuntian subconsciously raised his hand to scratch the back of his head, trying to cover up his guilty conscience with his usual cheerfulness:
"Then... shall we marry him? We can't go back on our word."
"Marry, marry, all you ever think about is marriage!" Yang Wanqing's anger flared up again upon hearing this, and she reached out and pinched his ear once more.
"You drank a few cups of wine with someone and ruined your daughter's future! Did you even ask your daughter if she wanted this? Did you know she already had someone in her heart?"
"Ouch... Madam, be gentle!" Li Yuntian winced in pain, but knowing he was in the wrong, he dared not argue and could only awkwardly say:
"Then, what do we do now? How about... we try again and have another one?"
As he spoke, he tried to brush it off with his usual playful smile and reached out to put his arm around Yang Wanqing's waist.
"Get out!" Yang Wanqing shoved him away, her cheeks flushed with anger.
"Let me tell you, this is something you caused back then. Go and explain it to your daughter yourself! If she doesn't forgive you, don't even think about entering the bedroom anymore; you'll be sleeping on the floor from now on!"
After saying that, she glared at Li Yuntian, turned around and left, her skirt tracing a clean arc.
The study door closed gently, and Li Yuntian seemed to have all his strength drained away. He slumped into his chair, stared at the ceiling, and sighed deeply.
His daughter saw the look in Xuan's eyes; he wasn't blind, he had seen it clearly long ago.
Qingxuan is exceptionally talented and has a good temperament, and he is happy to see this marriage happen.
But now... those few drunken words from back then have become a debt looming before us.
"Sigh..." He scratched his head in frustration, wishing he could travel back in time and shake that version of himself who made those random wishes awake.
"I told you not to drink those few ounces of liquor! Now look what's happened... How am I supposed to tell my daughter this now?!"
Li Yuntian felt that the road ahead was bleak, and his temples throbbed with pain.
Meanwhile, Yang Wanqing left the study but did not return to her room. Instead, she turned and walked through the corridor toward her daughter's courtyard.
Hoping Li Yuntian can come up with a solution that satisfies both sides?
She shook her head, a helpless smile playing on her lips. By the time he finally came up with a plan, the Spirit Hall would probably have already unified the entire continent.
However, so many years have passed, and the Lin family still hasn't come. Has the other party forgotten about this marriage?
Otherwise, given the Li family's current reputation, that family would have arrived long ago!
But I still have to tell my daughter about this; I can't keep it from her, otherwise it will be too late when her future family comes!
Sigh, in the end, it was me, the mother, who bore the brunt of it all!
