Chapter 205 Adding the Dowry
Chapter 205 Adding the Dowry
Looking at Li Xiaoyun's expression, Li Xiangyang couldn't help but reach out and ruffle her hair: "Why are you shy again?"
"Who's shy?" Li Xiaoyun pouted, but still avoided Li Xiangyang's gaze. "I just think... it's fine for my parents to worry about the dowry."
“That won’t do,” Li Xiangyang said seriously. “What belongs to our parents belongs to our parents, and what belongs to our husband belongs to our husband.”
Upon hearing this, Li Xiaoyun's eyes reddened.
She knew that Li Xiangyang genuinely cared about her, and the feeling of being cherished and loved made her feel both sweet and bittersweet.
"Alright, go inside now," Li Xiangyang said softly. "I'll pick you up tomorrow."
After watching Li Xiaoyun enter the house, Li Xiangyang turned and walked home.
Night had fallen, and the moonlight cast long shadows on the snow.
Back home, Li Xiangyang lay on the kang (a heated brick bed), but couldn't fall asleep for a long time.
He kept replaying Li Xiaoyun's shy appearance in his mind, and he was filled with anticipation as he thought about taking her to the city to look at houses and choose dowry for her tomorrow.
The next morning, Li Xiangyang got up early and got ready.
He specially changed into a relatively decent set of clothes, carefully counted the money he had earned from hunting a few days ago, and put it into his inner pocket.
I had just finished tidying up when I heard footsteps coming from the yard.
Li Xiangyang opened the door and saw Li Xiaoyun standing in the yard.
She dressed up specially for today; although her clothes were simple, she looked exceptionally pretty and charming.
"Have you had breakfast yet?" Li Xiangyang asked.
Li Xiaoyun nodded: "I ate it, and I even brought you some eggs."
"Let's go then," Li Xiangyang said, taking the eggs and taking his bicycle out of the house. "I'll give you a ride."
Li Xiaoyun hesitated for a moment: "This...isn't this a bit inappropriate? What if someone sees us..."
"What's wrong with that?" Li Xiangyang laughed. "We're getting married soon, what's wrong with riding a bicycle? Besides, it's such a long way, I can't let you walk."
Seeing that Li Xiaoyun was still hesitating, Li Xiangyang climbed into the car and said, "Hurry up and get in, or more people will see it."
Li Xiaoyun blushed and carefully sat down in the back seat.
Li Xiangyang felt her gently holding the hem of his clothes as she pedaled her bicycle towards the city.
The morning wind was still a bit cold on my face.
On the way, Li Xiangyang talked to Li Xiaoyun from time to time, telling her about his mother and sister's life in the city and the changes that had occurred in recent days.
At first, Li Xiaoyun was a little reserved, but she gradually opened up and occasionally chimed in with a few words.
"We've arrived." About an hour later, Li Xiangyang stopped the car at the entrance of an alley.
After turning one corner, I arrived home.
The yard is neither too big nor too small, just right for a family to live in.
Just as he reached the gate, he heard Li Xiaohua's voice coming from inside the courtyard: "Brother! Sister Xiaoyun!"
Immediately afterwards, the door creaked open, and Li Xiaohua skipped and hopped out.
Li's mother also came out of the kitchen, wiping her hands, and said with a smile, "Come in quickly, I just steamed some buns."
Upon entering the courtyard, Li Xiangyang saw that his mother had kept the yard in perfect order.
There was a pile of chopped firewood in the corner, several strings of red chili peppers hanging under the eaves, and a few potted green plants.
"Xiaoyun's here." Li's mother took Li Xiaoyun's hand and led her into the house. "Come inside and warm up."
Li Xiaoyun quickly offered to serve tea and water, but her mother stopped her, saying, "You're a guest, just sit down."
“Mother,” Li Xiaoyun said softly, “I’m about to go inside; I’m not a guest at all.”
That one word, "Mother," brought tears to Li's mother's eyes.
The house was warm and cozy, with a stove burning inside.
The family sat around the table, and Li's mother brought out steaming hot meat buns.
While eating, Li Xiaohua chattered on about things at school, making everyone laugh.
After dinner, Li's mother held Li Xiaoyun's hand and chatted on and on about everyday things.
The sound of Li Xiaohua humming a little tune came from the courtyard.
Li Xiangyang leaned against the door frame, watching this heartwarming scene, and felt a warmth in his heart.
Since his rebirth, his greatest wish has been to give his family a better life.
Now that her mother and sister have moved into a new house in the city, and Li Xiaoyun will soon be moving in as well, everything is moving in a positive direction.
"Xiaoyun," Li's mother suddenly said, "I heard from Xiangyang that you're going to buy your dowry today?"
Li Xiaoyun blushed, and before she could speak, Li Xiaohua ran in from the yard: "Really? I want to go too!"
“You can go,” Li Xiangyang said with a smile, “but you have to be obedient.”
"Of course!" Li Xiaohua patted her chest and assured her.
Mother Li smiled and waved her hand, "You all go ahead, I'll tidy up the yard. We'll be back for dinner tonight."
Watching Li Xiangyang lead Li Xiaoyun and Li Xiaohua out, Li's mother stood at the gate of the courtyard, her eyes filled with relief.
Her son has finally grown up and found such a wonderful girl.
Walking down the street, Li Xiaohua would run here and there like a happy little bird.
Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun followed behind, and seeing her happy expression, they couldn't help but smile at each other.
A short while later, the group arrived at a Friendship Store.
Red paper was pasted on the store entrance with slogans such as "Receipt for Goods" and "Exchange Ticket for Goods".
"Here!" Li Xiaohua pointed to the storefront, skipping along. "I heard from my classmates that city people come here to buy things for their weddings."
Li Xiangyang nodded: "Okay, let's buy it here today."
Li Xiaoyun hesitated for a moment: "But what about the things here..."
She didn't finish speaking, but Li Xiangyang understood what she meant.
The items at Friendship Store are indeed more expensive than in regular stores, but the quality is guaranteed.
"Don't worry," Li Xiangyang patted his pocket and winked at her, "I'm well-prepared this time."
Once inside the store, Li Xiaohua acted like a little guide, leading the way: "This is the fabric section, that's the clothing section, and there's furniture in the back..."
As soon as they entered, the shop assistant rushed forward to greet them: "What would you like to buy?"
"Things for the wedding," Li Xiangyang said.
“Oh,” the shop assistant’s eyes lit up, “I’ll have to take a good look. We just received a new shipment.”
As she spoke, she led them to the fabric section: "This is the latest Dacron fabric this year, and this cotton fabric too, the quality is very good..."
Li Xiaoyun gently touched the fabric, her eyes sparkling.
These fabrics are really good, much better than what you'd find in a regular store.
"Xiaoyun, take whichever one you like," Li Xiangyang said.
Li Xiaoyun shook her head: "No need to buy something so good..."
“Why wouldn’t I use it?” Li Xiangyang interrupted her. “You’re my wife, of course you have to use the best.”
The shop assistant smiled and said, "The young man is right. A wedding is a big deal; you should use the best you can afford."
Finally, at Li Xiangyang's insistence, Li Xiaoyun selected several bolts of fabric.
Then I bought some daily necessities.
