Chapter 293 The Heroine of an Old-Fashioned Romance Novel 13
"Of course all of this is related to me!"
Huo Chen sighed, and Ji Xiaosong wanted to say something more.
"Shhh."
Huo Chen pressed his fingertips against her lips, and gently placed his other hand on her flat stomach. "Don't say anything now."
His palms were warm and dry, carrying an irresistible power.
Ji Xiaosong turned her face away, but he grabbed her chin and turned her back.
"look at me."
Huo Chen's voice was low and firm, "I know you hate me now. But these two children are our flesh and blood."
When the helicopter landed on the rooftop helipad of Central Park West, the medical team was already on high alert.
Huo Chen personally carried her into the meticulously prepared medical room, making sure her feet never touched the ground.
"Full body checkup."
He ordered the doctor, "Make sure the mother and child are safe."
Ji Xiaosong lay on the examination bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Rongrong's voice echoed in my mind: "Ah Song, actually Huo Chen..."
"I don't want to hear it now. We've traveled through several worlds, and yet we've crashed and burned. It's too hard to accept."
After the examination, the doctor respectfully reported, "Mr. Huo, your wife and the fetus are both healthy, except for some mild anemia..."
"Prescribe the best blood tonic."
Huo Chen interrupted him, "Also, prepare a medicinal diet to help with pregnancy."
After everyone had left, he sat down by the bed and reached out to stroke her cheek: "Are you hungry?"
Ji Xiaosong slapped his hand away: "Don't touch me."
Huo Chen's eyes darkened, but surprisingly he did not get angry.
He got up and walked to the window, his back to her: "I apologize for what happened with the Book of Fate. But I have never held anything against you."
Ji Xiaosong's eyes clearly told him that he didn't believe it.
"Wife, don't look at me like that."
Huo Chen's voice was low and hoarse. He reached out to touch Ji Xiaosong's face, but she turned her head away.
Outside the window, the rain poured down, and lightning illuminated his sharply defined profile. His eyes, which were always brimming with confidence, now held a hint of pleading.
Ji Xiaosong clutched the Book of Fate, which glowed with an eerie red light, her knuckles turning white:
"So all of this was planned? Our meeting, our... feelings, even these two children?"
Her trembling hand touched her still flat stomach.
Huo Chen's eyes darkened, and he suddenly stepped forward, trapping her between the desk and himself.
His body temperature was alarmingly high, and the scent of ambergris enveloped her completely: "No."
He gritted his teeth and said, "The Book of Fate is real, but my feelings for you..."
"Enough!" Ji Xiaosong shoved him away abruptly. "Huo Chen, you disgust me!"
The air solidified instantly.
Huo Chen's jawline tightened, and a dangerous emotion surged in his eyes.
Just when Ji Xiaosong thought he was about to get angry, he suddenly closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he had returned to his calm and composed demeanor.
"Pack your things,"
He turned and walked toward the door, his voice cold and hard, "Back to Central Park West in half an hour."
"I'm not going!"
Ji Xiaosong grabbed the crystal paperweight next to her and threw it.
The paperweight grazed Huo Chen's forehead, leaving a bloody mark.
He paused, but didn't turn around. He simply raised his hand to wipe away the blood: "Twenty-five minutes."
To the west of Central Park is the Huo family's private estate, covering thirty acres and surrounded by a lake on three sides.
As Huo Chen forcibly shoved Ji Xiaosong into the car, she struggled desperately, shouting, "This is illegal detention!"
Huo Chen restrained her movements with one hand, while protecting her lower abdomen with the other, his voice low and deep: "Here, the people I want to protect, no one can touch them."
He paused, then added, "Including yourself."
Ji Xiaosong was stunned when the car entered the manor.
The original rose garden in front of the main building has been completely replaced with sunflowers, which are her favorite flowers recently.
A brand-new swing stands beside the flowerbed, and wind chimes tinkle under the eaves.
"It was ready last month."
Huo Chen followed her gaze and explained in a calm tone, as if he were talking about the weather, "Sunflowers love the sun, so I had the soil improved."
Ji Xiaosong's heart skipped a beat, then she sneered: "President Huo really goes to great lengths for the child."
Huo Chen gave her a deep look but didn't say anything.
The master bedroom had been rearranged, with her usual sleep-aiding aromatherapy placed on the bedside table, and the wardrobe full of the latest seasonal styles, with even the tags cut off.
Ji Xiaosong grabbed a silk nightgown and threw it on the ground: "I don't need your charity!"
Huo Chen bent down to pick up the pajamas and gently brushed away non-existent dust: "You need to rest."
He glanced at his watch. "The doctor will be here in ten minutes."
"Get out!"
Huo Chen stood still.
Sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting dappled shadows on his sharply defined face, making him appear somewhat vulnerable.
"Wife,"
He said softly, "You can hate me, but don't hurt yourself."
The medical team conducted a very thorough examination.
Dr. Chen, who was in the lead, adjusted his glasses: "Madam has mild anemia and needs..."
"Use the best medicine."
Huo Chen interrupted him, his brows furrowed, "Also, prepare a detailed nutrition plan."
After everyone had left, Huo Chen sat down by the bed.
He reached out to touch Ji Xiaosong's face, but stopped halfway, ultimately only tucking the blanket around her.
"Are you hungry? I asked the kitchen to make some millet porridge."
Ji Xiaosong turned her back to him and remained silent.
Huo Chen sat quietly for a while, then suddenly said in a low voice:
"Your name is indeed in the Book of Fate. But falling in love with you was my own choice."
After saying that, he got up and left, his footsteps gradually fading into the distance.
Ji Xiaosong buried her face in the pillow, tears silently streaming down her face.
For the next three days, Huo Chen stayed by her side almost every step of the way, but always maintained a just-right distance.
He would gently stroke her hair while she was asleep, and then quietly leave before she woke up;
He would personally supervise the chef's preparation of each dish, but never forced her to eat it;
He would wake up immediately when she turned over in the middle of the night, and only pretend to continue sleeping after confirming that she was alright.
On the morning of the fourth day, Ji Xiaosong deliberately spilled her breakfast.
The hot porridge was splashed on the back of her hand, and it immediately turned red.
Huo Chen's expression changed drastically. He grabbed her hand and rushed to the sink, where cold water was gushing down.
"Does it hurt?"
His voice was strained, and his brows were furrowed so deeply they could trap a fly.
Ji Xiaosong stubbornly pursed her lips and remained silent.
Huo Chen suddenly bent down, picked her up horizontally, and walked to the terrace in a few steps.
The rising sun dyed the clouds golden red, and the lake shimmered in the distance.
"Look carefully,"
He pointed to the building under construction in the distance, "That's the best private maternal and child hospital branch in the city, serving only you."
He then pointed to the other side, saying, "They're building a children's playground there; it'll be ready to use once the baby is born."
He looked down at her, his gaze so intense it almost burned her: "I do need you to break the curse, but I'm even more afraid of losing you. These two things don't conflict."
Ji Xiaosong's hand was burned red, but Huo Chen's fingers trembled even more violently than hers.
He held her as they stood on the terrace, the sounds of machinery from the construction site faintly audible in the distance.
"Those ones……"
Ji Xiaosong's throat tightened, "Was it really built for me?"
Huo Chen rested his chin on the top of her head, his voice muffled: "I started planning from the day I found out you were pregnant."
He suddenly turned around, picked her up, and walked deeper into the corridor. "I have something else to show you."
At the far end of the master bedroom was a room she had never been to.
Huo Chen unlocked the door with his fingerprint, and Ji Xiaosong's breath hitched when the door opened.
The entire wall is covered with nursery design plans, with detailed plans for each stage from newborn to preschool age.
On the central display screen, two cute little figures are playing in a virtual room, their features strikingly similar to hers and Huo Chen's.
