Chapter 1205: Hold Back and See If He Has Anyone Behind the Scenes
When Richard Shaw arrived at the hospital and asked the nurse for directions to Dr. Liao’s office, he found chaos in front of the treatment room.
Leah was unconscious, and Cornelius Turner’s men were about to start fighting.
The man’s pupils shrank suddenly, his face changed drastically, and he pushed Cornelius aside with force, cradling Leah in his arms, eyes bloodshot with rage: "What on earth happened?"
Rushing all the way from the Military District, only to find Leah not with Cassius Turner but in a hospital, the man’s expression turned to extreme darkness, his tall body faintly trembling as he held Leah tightly, shouting for a doctor.
"I am the doctor, the patient is just unconscious. She’ll be fine after a sedative and some rest." Dr. Liao had already put on his white coat, speaking somewhat helplessly as he nearly got hit by Cornelius’s men.
The nurse outside was also alarmed, ran over to see the chaos, and asked, "Dr. Liao, what happened? Should we call the police?"
"It’s fine, don’t panic," Dr. Liao reassured.
Richard Shaw glanced at the name tag on his white coat, forcing himself to calm down, placing Leah on the recliner and watching as Dr. Liao administered a sedative, casting a glance towards Swayer.
Swayer had already called for backup.
With a single shot, Leah was sent into the ward, her condition stabilized, though still in a coma.
Outside the ward, Richard Shaw’s men stood distinctly apart from Griffith Squire’s men.
Cornelius remained tight-lipped, saying nothing as he stood guard outside Leah’s ward with his men, while Richard Shaw’s eyes were filled with anger, lacking time to question them, he approached Dr. Liao, the focal point of this incident, with a stern face.
"Dr. Liao, the conversation we’re about to have will decide whether your medical career ends today." The man stood in the doctor’s office, temporarily turned into an interrogation room, his handsome but solemn face exuded icy disdain, his powerful hands clenched behind his back to restrain himself, or else he might beat this seemingly genteel doctor to death.
Dr. Liao sat in the chair, adjusting his glasses, his gaze flickering; he didn’t expect to meet in such a manner, finding it rather intriguing.
"Major General Shaw, even though you hold great power, you cannot blatantly threaten ordinary citizens. I have emphasized many times, Miss Squire came to me for treatment for amnesia; I only conducted a test on her."
"Then why did she fall into a coma?" Richard Shaw spoke in a low voice, eyes pressed intensely on him.
After all, he was a veteran from the Military District accustomed to life and death, the chill emanating from him would make most people unable to speak clearly, yet Dr. Liao, though steadfast, was sweating bullets, aware that Richard Shaw was meticulous; if he did not answer well, this man would have him in dire straits indeed.
"I used hypnosis therapy; she was inside for barely ten minutes. Miss Squire’s bodyguard was outside the entire time, you can ask them." Dr. Liao wiped the sweat from his forehead, making himself appear even weaker.
"Dr. Liao, my patience is limited." Richard Shaw’s lips pressed together tightly as he glanced at the time, speaking coldly, "You’ve wasted two minutes; you have three more. After that, I will hand you over to the military district’s special interrogation unit."
The special interrogation unit of the Military District is feared by countless foreign spies.
Dr. Liao’s forehead was drenched in cold sweat, hurriedly saying: "Miss Squire’s coma might be due to two reasons: either she did not adapt well to my hypnosis therapy, causing a coma, or during hypnosis, she saw some past memories, suffering severe mental trauma which led to the coma."
What Dr. Liao did not mention was that what he performed on Leah Squire was not a simple hypnosis test but direct, forced hypnosis. The constantly running hourglass was his psychological suggestion, and the burning incense also had hypnotic effects. Leah Squire’s memories were already fragile; forced hypnosis did not immediately cause vomiting or unconsciousness, and even when conscious, she managed to push him away and call for her guard, which surprised him—she was more intriguing than he imagined.
These were things he absolutely could not express.
Richard Shaw’s face subtly changed, fingers clenched into a fist, body tense, radiating an aura of danger.
Leah recovering her memory? This thought clenched tightly around his heart, almost suffocating him.
"If I remember correctly, Dr. Liao only met Leah for the first time yesterday, and it was because a surgery got canceled that she had the test done today? Does Dr. Liao find the timing a bit too coincidental?" Richard Shaw sneered, his deep, tea-colored eyes betraying a touch of cold ruthlessness.
A hint of astonishment flickered in Dr. Liao’s eyes, unexpected that the other party had already investigated him, even knowing about the canceled surgery.
He was only afraid that time would bring complications, that Leah Squire would not trust a stranger doctor, hence he made a decisive move.
"Major General Shaw, this is slander. Miss Squire should wake soon, and then you’ll see that I merely fulfilled my duties as a doctor. Your speculations are far too malicious." Dr. Liao angrily clenched his fists, his face flushed with rage.
Richard Shaw let out a cold smile, wasting no more time, left the room and ordered stringent surveillance.
As soon as Richard Shaw exited, Dr. Liao’s expression instantly became composed; the previous anger and panic were nowhere to be seen.
Dr. Liao quickly took out his communication device, sending out several messages, then relaxedly poured himself a glass of hot water, a sinister smile tugging at his lips; now that everyone was gathered, he didn’t mind making the hospital a bit more lively.
As Richard Shaw exited the room, Swayer swiftly approached, asking, "Major General, should we send this doctor to the military district for interrogation?"
The man narrowed his eyes, shook his head, speaking deeply: "Hold your ground for now, see if there’s anyone else behind the scenes."
Regardless of whether this Dr. Liao is innocent, the military district’s policy is to rather err a hundred times than let one go; people will be finished either way.
Richard Shaw is no ordinary man; over the years, he has interrogated countless spies and dangerous individuals; though Dr. Liao appeared feigned in rage and panic, his body and limbs were highly coordinated, even calm in response—certainly not a common doctor.
"Did Cornelius’ men say anything?"
"They said nothing, like mute; they’re all armed with dangerous items. The hospital is crowded; I fear pushing too hard might provoke a strong counterattack, so I didn’t continue questioning." Swayer said, slightly troubled, though the dispatched personnel could certainly restrain Cornelius and others, they were ultimately the lady’s men, moving against them was risky.
Richard Shaw nodded, not troubling himself with Cornelius’ men, entered the ward to guard the unconscious Leah.
