Chapter 100 Human Traffickers
Chapter 100 Human Traffickers
The room was silent. The children were even more frightened after being threatened by the big man.
Xiao Siyue felt a little heavy-hearted, wondering how worried her mother must be after her sudden disappearance.
I wonder when her father will be able to find her.
I had heard Xiao Qinian say before that this group of human traffickers was very cunning, and the authorities had been investigating for several days without success.
Xiao Siyue was lost in thought, while the two people beside her remained quiet.
"Sister." The little boy sat down next to Xiao Siyue, tugging at her clothes. Only Xiao Siyue could give him a sense of security.
"Hmm? What's wrong?" Xiao Siyue snapped out of her thoughts and looked down at the little boy.
"Sister, I'm hungry." Xiao Nan touched his stomach, opened his big eyes, and looked at Xiao Siyue with a somewhat aggrieved expression.
Xiao Siyue had completely forgotten about this matter before, but now that Xiao Nannan mentioned it, she seemed to feel a little hungry herself.
Looking out the window, it seemed that it was already dark, and she hadn't eaten dinner yet.
But they were like lambs to the slaughter, with nothing left to eat.
Xiao Siyue subconsciously touched the small bag she usually carried, and it was still there.
Xiao Siyue quickly took out a few candies, gave one to Xiao Nan and one to Li Qi, and then put one in her own mouth.
Then he looked at the other children, thought for a moment, took out a few more, and gave them to a few children.
As everyone ate the sweet candy, their mood improved slightly, and the tension they felt earlier eased a bit.
"Li Qi, how did you eat before?" Xiao Siyue asked Li Qi, who was standing next to her. She figured they must have been fed, otherwise Li Qi would probably have been too hungry to move after four days.
“They’ll bring the food over in a little while,” Li Qi said, just like before.
"You can eat it in a little while. Would you like another piece of candy?" Xiao Siyue said to the little boy after she found out.
"No, thank you, sister," the little boy said obediently.
"You're welcome." Xiao Siyue patted the boy's head again.
"What's your name? How did you get arrested?"
"Sister, my name is Wang Jiancheng."
"I went to the street with my wet nurse to sell candied hawthorns, but she disappeared. I tried to find her, but I couldn't, and then I don't know what happened to her," Wang Jiancheng said dejectedly.
"I miss my sister. If I disappear, she'll definitely worry." Wang Jiancheng said, almost crying again, but thinking of the big man from before, he quickly wiped away the tears welling up in his eyes.
When Xiao Siyue heard Wang Jiancheng say this, she immediately started to have some conspiracy theories. What was going on with this wet nurse? Was it unintentional or intentional?
"Chengcheng, be good. Your sister is waiting for you at home."
"Uh-huh"
After a while, Xiao Siyue heard a lot of noise outside.
It seems like there are several people talking.
Xiao Siyue got up, quietly walked to the door, and pressed her ear against it to eavesdrop.
Wang Jiancheng followed Xiao Siyue to the door and looked at her.
Xiao Siyue quickly gestured for Wang Jiancheng to be quiet, reminding him not to speak.
Then he pressed himself against the door to eavesdrop.
"Haha, big brother, we've made a great haul today!" one of them laughed wildly.
"Haha, you did a great job today, Third Brother. Today is all thanks to you. I'll toast you, Big Brother." Another person, who seemed to be the leader, also said with a smile.
"Come on, third brother, let me toast you too."
Xiao Siyue recognized the voice of the man who called himself Second Brother; it was the burly man who had just come in.
"Thank you, elder brother and second brother. I'll drink first as a sign of my respect."
Xiao Siyue continued listening; it seemed there were four people in total, currently celebrating their day's harvest.
Xiao Siyue glanced at Wang Jiancheng, wondering if he was referring to the two of them.
"Haha, eldest brother, second brother, I never expected to have such an unexpected gain today," the third brother said, seemingly a little drunk, as he began to boast.
It took Xiao Siyue a long time to understand.
It turns out that the traffickers' original target today was Wang Jiancheng, and he only discovered him by chance on their way back.
The traffickers figured they couldn't let this opportunity pass them by, so they arrested her.
"Alright, third brother, drink less. We'll finish our last job tomorrow and then we should leave. The Qianyuan County government has been cracking down hard these past few days, so we can't get caught," the trafficker leader said.
"Okay, I understand, brother. We'll leave after we catch those two tomorrow," the third brother replied, his voice somewhat unsteady.
"Fourth brother, go and bring food to those kids. Make sure they don't go hungry, especially the two we caught today, they're top-notch," the eldest brother instructed.
"Okay, big brother."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Siyue quickly pulled Wang Jiancheng back to his original seat.
Sure enough, not long after they sat down, a thin man with extremely sinister eyes walked in with food.
"Here you go, one for each of you, help yourselves." The man placed a basket of steamed buns on the ground, his eyes sweeping over all the children in the room.
Xiao Siyue didn't move. After seeing the other children take steamed buns, she went up and took one for herself and one for Wang Jiancheng.
Seeing that everyone had taken their buns, the man went out, locked the door, and left.
Xiao Siyue glanced at the steamed bun in her hand; it looked quite clean. She picked it up and took a bite.
He urged Wang Jiancheng to eat quickly.
Regardless, let's fill our stomachs first.
After eating, Xiao Siyue began to ponder what she had just heard.
These human traffickers are actually planning to leave tomorrow, so she doesn't have much time left. She wonders how her father is doing.
Once they are taken away from Qianyuan County, they will probably never have the chance to come back.
Unlike today, there was no surveillance everywhere in ancient times. Once you left the jurisdiction of Qianyuan County, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack to find you again.
Furthermore, these human traffickers target specific individuals; they don't just kidnap people randomly. She was just unlucky enough to be caught by accident.
Xiao Siyue carefully examined the child inside the room once more.
They were all quite good-looking, and their families must have been well-off; none of them were fair-skinned or chubby.
So where do these human traffickers intend to take them? Judging from their targets, they certainly aren't going to sell them as slaves. So where are they going to sell them to, or are they not going to sell them at all, but rather to some shady business?
If that's the case, then there's probably a huge organization behind these people. That would significantly reduce Xiao Qinian's chances of catching the human traffickers.
If not, then how did the four of them manage to stay so well hidden?
Xiao Siyue felt like her brain wasn't working properly.
And who will be the human traffickers' target tomorrow?
