Chapter 139 Entering the Mansion
Chapter 139 Entering the Mansion
"Selling herself?" Li Mingyue's parents couldn't believe it.
"Yes, you heard me right, I've already sold myself." Li Mingyue didn't seem to be having any emotional fluctuations and continued drinking her tea.
"Li Mingyue, do you even know what you're saying! Our family has plenty of food and clothing, why are you selling yourself! What about me and your father?!"
Only families desperate to survive would choose to sell their children. What will the neighbors think of Li Mingyue for doing this?
“Mother, what’s wrong with me selling myself into the Prince’s mansion? Anyway, there’s no place for me in this family, is there?” Li Mingyue put down her teacup and said calmly.
"Mingyue, I know you're angry because of your cousin's job at the shop. How about this, I'll make him leave right now, okay? Just stop selling yourself!" Her father was so anxious he kept stamping his feet.
Look, these are her parents. They know she's angry and sad, but they just ignore her unhappiness.
"It doesn't matter whether he leaves or not." Li Mingyue stood up, flicked her sleeves, "I'm leaving anyway."
"Mingyue, do you really not want your parents and this family anymore?!" Her mother exclaimed in panic.
“We’re all family. Don’t you all have sons? Oh, right, what about your sons’ brothers? What would I do with you? Leave you here so you can marry them off anywhere.”
"How can you say that to us? We're doing this for your own good. Mingyue, here's what we'll do: if you don't want to get married, then don't. But please don't do anything foolish. If you sell yourself into servitude as a maid, you'll never have any freedom!" Her father firmly objected.
"Then you don't need to worry, Father and Mother. I believe the nobleman won't marry me off so easily. I've already sold myself into servitude, and I'm determined to enter this Prince's mansion!" Li Mingyue looked at her parents with a determined gaze.
"Father and Mother, please worry more about your son from now on!" Li Mingyue said before leaving.
To be honest, she only remembered this when she saw Qin Da.
After all these days of slacking off, she already knew that her parents were unhappy with her.
Because she was no longer wholeheartedly contributing to the family, she also realized that her parents' patience was running out.
During that time, she considered many options, such as having a big fight with her parents and kicking Li Zhuzi out completely.
Even though she managed to stop Li Zhuzi from entering the shop, her parents' hearts had already turned against her, and who knows what might happen in the future.
Besides, it wouldn't be safe for a weak woman like her to go to another place alone, away from her parents.
She thought and thought, but couldn't find a way to satisfy both sides. But when she saw Qin Da, she suddenly had an idea.
She wanted to enter the Prince's mansion. Once she was no longer a member of the Li family, her parents wouldn't be able to control her, and she would have someone to protect her.
As for Li Zhuzi and the shop, let her parents worry about it themselves.
Li Mingyue knew that selling herself into servitude as a maid was a Pyrrhic victory, but she had no other choice.
She felt so stifled in this family. She would rather be a maid than a punching bag. Now she just hoped that things would be easier with the nobleman.
"You said Miss Li asked you to sell yourself?" Prince Qin was listening to Qin Da's report.
"Yes, sir. I was escorting the Crown Princess to buy jewelry when I ran into Miss Li, and she asked me for it."
"Her family is struggling financially? Didn't I tell you to give her money and a small courtyard? Isn't that enough?" Prince Qin frowned slightly, wondering if the Li family was being too greedy.
"No, those subordinates have already been given to them. Miss Li also opened a pastry shop in the city."
"Then why would she sell herself?" Qin Da asked, which piqued Qin Shizi's curiosity.
"I've inquired and found out that Miss Li seems to have had a conflict with her parents. Her shop is now being managed by her cousin, and Miss Li's mother has given birth to another son."
"Her cousin? I remember they've severed ties!" Prince Qin understood after a moment's thought. It was nothing more than fear that his daughter would take over his son's family business in the future. Humph, foolish.
In Qin Shizi's eyes, only Li Mingyue in that family had any ability; the rest were just ignorant fools.
"In that case, if Miss Li doesn't come, then so be it. If Miss Li does come, don't register her as a slave yet. She runs a pastry shop, right? Then let her stay in the small kitchen for now."
After all, he was his savior, and Prince Qin did not feel that a little silver was enough to repay his life-saving grace. His life was still precious.
"Yes, Your Highness!" Qin Da understood the young master's order.
The next day, Li Mingyue got ready early in the morning and prepared to go to the Prince's Mansion.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw her parents, sisters, and Li Zhuzi standing outside.
"Mingyue! Are you really going? I'm begging you! Please don't go!" Her father clenched his fists and looked at her pleadingly.
Li Mingyue paused for a moment, but continued walking out.
"Mingyue, I was wrong, please don't go!" Her mother burst into tears.
"Sister, don't go!" Chun Ya and Cao Ya couldn't help but cry too.
Li Mingyue remained unmoved and continued walking towards the door.
Why didn't you do this earlier? Now you're crying and begging her to stay, what's the point?
Li Mingyue stubbornly thought about it, but tears still fell down her face.
“Sister Mingyue, you’re really leaving like this! How heartbroken your second uncle and aunt must be!” Li Zhuzi pretended to try and persuade her to stay.
God knows how happy he was yesterday when he heard that Li Mingyue had sold herself into the Prince's mansion. He rushed over early this morning to confirm the news.
"Otherwise, I won't leave. Just give me some money to redeem myself, and I'll stay right away!" Li Mingyue couldn't hold back when she heard Li Zhuzi's words. She wiped away her tears, turned around, and asked Li Zhuzi for money.
"This, where would I get any money! Sister Mingyue, you must have had some money after you sold yourself into the Prince's mansion, right? I wonder if you gave it to your second uncle and aunt! How will they survive after you leave!" Li Zhuzi quickly refused, and then came up with another idea.
"Ha, I left the shop to my parents, why can't they make a living! What, you think this shop is yours now! What are you dreaming about!" Li Mingyue directly exposed his thoughts.
To be honest, Li Zhuzi really did consider the shop to be under his own name.
After Li Mingyue finished speaking, she turned around and strode towards the Prince's Mansion, the calls of her parents behind her gradually fading away.
She had given up on her parents. They had spoken very well when they tried to persuade her yesterday, and even chased Li Zhuzi away. But this morning, he came into her house. She said she had sold herself, and they believed her without asking any questions or even mentioning the money for her redemption. They just kept trying to persuade her.
Well, it's better that she left. At least she won't have to feel so stifled anymore.
Upon reaching the entrance of the Prince's Mansion, Li Mingyue stood and gazed at the vermilion gate for a while before resolutely walking inside.
