"Okay, let's go together then," Eriri reluctantly agreed. "But what are we going to do next?"
The original trio has become a five-person team.
……
……
[P.S.: Sign language can be used to express names. In Japan, names are usually broken down by syllables. I remember Shoko using it when she introduced herself.]
Volume 1: Chapter 80: Clearly, I was here first...
The trio became a group of five, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Yuto Itsuka was forced to become the bridge for team communication. He needed to translate the sign language from the other side of the glass and tell Eriri and the others.
“They said they wanted to go play at that ‘Despair Fortress’,” Yuto Itsuka translated.
"Huh? Isn't that difficult? I heard the success rate is only one in a thousand or something?" Eriri said in surprise.
Yuto Itsuka then translated the message to Shoko and the others.
Mika Kimura gestured enthusiastically, "That's what makes it fun! When everyone's together, we can all take on the challenge!"
Shoko nodded, her eyes gleaming with eager anticipation.
Yuto Itsuka was a little confused. "Are you the Shoko I know?"
However, looking at the glass, he felt a sense of relief.
In reality, she seems much more cheerful than the somewhat timid little girl she was in the early stages of the simulated world.
Is it because simulation and reality are inherently different?
“Alright, let’s give it a try,” said Yuto Itsuka.
On their way to the "Desperate Fortress", the five-person team naturally split into two groups.
Mika Kimura led the way, pulling Shoko along, occasionally turning back to communicate with Yuto Itsuka using sign language, while Eriri and Megumi Kato followed beside Yuto.
"Hey, Yuto." Eriri nudged Yuto Itsuka with her elbow and asked in a low voice, "When did you learn sign language? I didn't know."
"I learned it when I was a kid," Yuto Itsuka casually made up.
"When we were little? We were together every day when we were little, how come I've never seen you learn anything like that!" Eriri looked incredulous.
"You're not with me 24/7."
"Hmph!" Eriri pouted; she always felt that Yuto was hiding something from her.
She glanced again at Shoko, who was walking ahead of her.
That girl, although she couldn't hear, was very cute and had a gentle temperament, somewhat like a Yamato Nadeshiko, the kind of girl who easily aroused a boy's protective instincts.
Moreover, Yuto's attitude towards her seemed very familiar.
Eriri felt a little sour.
"Despair Fortress" is a maze escape project. After entering, the five people were quickly confused by the complicated routes and mechanisms.
"It seems like there's another notification here." Itsuka Yuto stopped in front of a screen.
Mika and Shoko immediately came over.
"What does it say?" Eriri wanted to see too, but there were too many people, and she was pushed to the back.
Yuto Itsuka quickly skimmed through the hints, then used sign language to explain the key points to Shoko and the other girl.
Shoko listened attentively, nodding occasionally.
The three communicated quickly using sign language.
"Hey! What are you talking about? Tell us too!" Eriri shouted from behind, clearly annoyed.
Yuto Itsuka then remembered that he had two teammates who could "hear" him, and quickly turned around to tell Eriri and Megumi Kato the results of their discussion.
"What? It's that simple?" Eriri muttered. "Then why didn't you just say it directly instead of using sign language for so long?"
“They need to feel involved too,” Yuto Itsuka said matter-of-factly. “Besides, the idea just now was mainly proposed by Nishimiya.”
He turned to Shoko, gave her a bright smile, and gave her a thumbs up.
Shoko blushed when she saw his action and smiled shyly.
This gesture... is exactly the same as the one from my dream...
Eriri felt even more jealous watching the interaction between the two.
She discovered that there seemed to be a tacit understanding between Yuto Itsuka and Shoko Nishimiya that outsiders could not intrude upon. Although the two communicated in sign language, the way they exchanged glances and their natural interactions made her feel like an outsider.
I was clearly here first...
Kato Megumi was also secretly observing from the side, and she noticed that Itsuka was gentler than usual today.
Is it because of that girl named Nishimiya Shoko?
Kato Megumi's lips curled up slightly, revealing a meaningful smile.
Things seem to be getting interesting...
Over the next few hours, the five-person team played a few more games. Yuto Itsuka dutifully acted as the translator, his attention unconsciously drawn to Shoko.
I will keep an eye on her to see if she can keep up with the group, I will help her block out the crowd, and I will patiently explain to her in sign language when she looks confused.
Eriri noticed all of this.
While waiting in line for the carousel—this was at Mika Kimura's insistence, as she wanted to satisfy her girlish heart.
Eriri finally couldn't hold back anymore.
"You idiot Yuto, come here for a second!" She pulled Yuto Itsuka aside.
"what happened?"
“You…” Eriri bit her lip, “Do you… have feelings for that Nishimiya Shoko?”
Yuto Itsuka was stunned. "Huh? What are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb! You've been hanging around her all day, your eyes are practically glued to her!" Eriri got angrier as she spoke. "Don't forget, you came out to play with us today!"
Yuto Itsuka felt somewhat helpless.
He admitted that he did subconsciously pay more attention to Shoko, but it wasn't romantic love; it was simply... similar to the gratification a father feels when he sees his daughter growing up healthy.
He could only explain, "You're overthinking it, Eriri. Shoko can't hear. I'm just taking extra care of her."
"Glass?!"
You've only just met and you're already calling her so affectionately?! How dare you say you don't like her?!
Yuto Itsuka broke out in a cold sweat. It was just something he'd said so often that it just slipped out. He quickly explained, "It's Nishimiya, Nishimiya-kun."
Eriri ignored the issue of addressing her for the moment. She pointed to Shoko, who was taking pictures with Mika Kimura and Megumi Kato not far away, and said, "Does she need to be taken care of so meticulously? Look how happy she is having on her own. She doesn't need you to worry about her at all!"
Wuhe Yuuto: "..."
"Besides, you know her way too well, don't you? You even know what kind of drinks she likes?"
When buying drinks earlier, Yuto Itsuka bought Shoko her favorite peach juice.
"I guessed," Yuto Itsuka said stubbornly.
"Hmph! Nobody believes you!" Eriri crossed her arms and turned her head away. "I don't care, I just don't like you like this!"
"What kind?"
"Praise for sex over friends!"
Yuto Itsuka was both amused and exasperated. Just as he was about to explain, Megumi Kato waved to them.
"Itsuka-kun, Eriri, come quick, it's almost our turn!"
Yuto Itsuka sighed and patted Eriri on the shoulder. "Stop fooling around, go play first."
Eriri glared at him angrily, then turned and walked towards the carousel.
Yuto Itsuka watched her retreating figure, then looked at Shoko not far away.
He suddenly realized that Eriri was right; he had been confusing reality with the simulation. He couldn't ignore the feelings of the people around him just because of his guilt and longing for Shoko in the simulation.
……
Volume 1: Chapter 81: Yuto-kun, I've found you! (Bonus Chapter 6/5)
"Thump~ thump~ thump~ thump..."
The carousel starts, and music begins.
'This style...it sounds like Joe Hisaishi's work...'
Shoko sat on her white horse, rising and falling with the music. She looked at Itsuka Yuto, who was standing outside the fence, and waved to him.
Yuto Itsuka waved to her, then turned his gaze to Eriri, who was sitting on the horse in front.
Eriri turned her face away, deliberately avoiding looking at him.
Yuto Itsuka smiled, took out his phone, and took a picture of Eriri.
Eriri noticed his movement, immediately turned around, and angrily said, "What are you doing! Don't take pictures!"
"It's a really nice photo." Itsuka Yuto waved his phone at her.
Delete it now!
"Don't delete it."
"You! I'm going to bite you to death!!"
The carousel's noise gradually stopped, and several people got off.
Eriri was still upset about being secretly photographed and kept chasing after Yuto Itsuka, demanding that he delete the photos.
"Not only did I not delete it, I also sent it to Aunt Sayuri." Itsuka Yuto showed her his phone, on which was his Line interface with Sawamura Sayuri, and the picture of Eriri riding a horse was prominently displayed.
Below is a series of hearts and "Kawaii!!" from Xiaobaihe's instant reply.
"I'm going to kill you!!!" Eriri jumped up and down in anger, her golden twin tails leaving afterimages as she swung them.
"I'll fight you to the death!" she shouted, lunging at him with her claws outstretched.
Yuto Itsuka nimbly dodged and circled around Megumi Kato.
Kato Megumi sighed and said calmly, "Eri, Itsuka-kun, what you're doing sounds like elementary school kids arguing."
He provoked me first!
"She's just too easily amused."
Both of them refuted this at the same time.
On the other side, Shoko and Mika watched the two bickering and smiled.
“They have such a good relationship,” Mika said in sign language.
Shoko nodded, a hint of envy flashing in her eyes. Looking at Eriri's lively appearance, she thought to herself, "It's so nice to be able to joke around with Yuuto like this without any inhibitions."
"Is that blonde girl Itsuka-kun's girlfriend?" Mika asked gossipily.
Shoko's heart tightened, and she shook her head. "I don't know."
But she felt a pang of jealousy; they looked so well-matched, the boy handsome and the girl cute.
"Alright, stop fooling around." Yuto Itsuka stretched out his hand and pressed it against Eriri's forehead, letting her swing her ponytail like a warhammer. "Where to next? It's getting late."
“Let’s go ride the Ferris wheel, Ooku (9) Kiryu Niji` Ying Sanba Lu$jia.” Kato Megumi suggested, “When you come to an amusement park, you feel like you have to ride the Ferris wheel to make the trip worthwhile.”
"good idea."
Yuto Itsuka translated the proposal to Shoko and Mika, and they nodded in agreement.
The Ferris wheel at Fuji-Q Highland is very famous, and there are long queues. Five of us were standing in the long line, and the atmosphere started to become a little awkward.
Eriri deliberately stood between Yuto and Shoko, as if to assert her dominance—I'm this idiot's childhood friend!
To ease the awkwardness, Yuto Itsuka took the initiative to start a conversation: "Are Nishimiya-san and Kimura-san both students at the school for the deaf?"
