Chapter 1 The Dungeon Under the Lighthouse
Chapter 1 The Dungeon Under the Lighthouse
Stormy Seas, Eagle's Nest Island, Prosperity Lighthouse.
In the basement of the lighthouse, there is a row of dormitories that look like caves.
After dinner, and after taking a specially prepared potion, Loon returned to his cave, closed the door, and turned the lighting crystal inside to its brightest setting.
He sat down with his back against the door, and faint sounds could be heard coming from outside.
Those were the other apprentices inside the lighthouse, discussing meditation. Some of the more talented ones were boasting that they would be able to successfully meditate and condense their first rune to become official wizard apprentices by tomorrow or the day after.
There were also those with less talent who, while feeling sorry for themselves and belittling themselves, carefully tried to please the more talented apprentices.
Before long, their conversation naturally turned to Luo Ang.
"According to the rules of the lighthouse, if one fails to meditate successfully within a year, one will be expelled from the lighthouse."
"That good-for-nothing Chloron, I heard he's been at the Lighthouse for three years and still hasn't succeeded in his meditation and become a formal wizard apprentice!"
"But instead of kicking him out, his advisor treated him better and better."
"His food, drink, and lodging are the best among us!"
"His mentor would even prepare special potions for him."
"Just a baron's son!"
"What gives him the right?!"
"Yes, yes, he doesn't even have to do chores!"
The more they talked, the more their voices became clenched and resentful.
"Yeah, why should we?" Luo Ang leaned against the door, raising his hand to look at his palm.
On his palm, tiny sparks of lightning flickered like undulating ripples, vanishing in an instant.
If the apprentices who were gossiping behind his back saw this scene, no one would question Luo Ang's treatment.
This is a symbol of the complete awakening of one's bloodline.
Bloodline itself is a kind of extraordinary power, a power belonging to wizards.
Wizards begin their training as apprentices, progressing through first-class, second-class, third-class, and fourth-class apprentices, before finally becoming full-fledged wizards.
Once you awaken your bloodline, no matter what bloodline you awaken, you will immediately be equivalent to a first-class apprentice. If the bloodline you awaken is strong enough, it can even be comparable to a second- or third-class apprentice, or even a formal wizard.
The apprentices in the lighthouse are all sons of nobles, each carrying an ancient bloodline—which, over time, has gradually thinned and faded, making it difficult to display any extraordinary qualities.
They came to the Beacon of Prosperity to learn aristocratic knowledge, each harboring the extravagant hope of awakening their bloodline.
The old wizard of the lighthouse would also regularly test the bloodlines of these apprentices. Those who showed signs of bloodline awakening would immediately receive preferential treatment from the lighthouse's resources and be given special training by the old wizard until they successfully awakened their bloodline and graduated from the lighthouse.
However, Luo Ang's bloodline had already awakened long ago—yet he could only suppress the power within his bloodline, daring not to show any trace of its awakening.
The reason is also very simple.
In the eyes of other apprentices, bloodline awakening is a rare opportunity that can help them master power more quickly and complete meditation techniques.
In reality, the closer they get to becoming apprentices, the more obvious the signs of their bloodline awakening become, and the closer they are to death!
Seventeen years ago, Loon was reborn in this wizarding world, becoming the youngest son of the White Eagle family.
Three years ago, Loon came to Prosperity Beacon with the expectations of his family and his own ambitions, determined to become a wizard.
Accompanying him was another familiar nobleman's son, as they were apprentices from the same batch and thus naturally clung to each other.
Among their small group was the second son of an earl, whose talent was second only to Loen.
In the first month after entering the lighthouse, when Loen realized that his bloodline was about to awaken, the count's second son had already completed the introductory meditation method and become a first-class wizard apprentice.
Then, he graduated.
Half a month later, another member of the small group unexpectedly awakened his bloodline. He excitedly told the old man at the lighthouse about the good news.
The next day, he also graduated!
The old man at the lighthouse said that they had been sent to the corresponding wizarding academy to study—but half a month later, when Loon was cleaning the old man's laboratory, he unexpectedly found an eyeball specimen in the laboratory.
Luo Ang recognized them; they were the eyes of the second person in their group to graduate—his awakened bloodline was a magical beast with eye techniques.
The apprentice the old wizard spoke of, who had already graduated from the Lighthouse and gone to the academy for further studies, appeared in the old wizard's laboratory.
This greatly frightened Loen.
From then on, Luo Ang began to consciously suppress the signs of his bloodline awakening.
The bloodline of nobles originates from ancient magical beasts, which were incredibly violent and terrifying—therefore, the awakening of their bloodline is very obvious and almost impossible to conceal.
Just like the White Eagle family to which Luo Ang belongs, the White Eagle blood they inherit is from an ancient magical beast that is said to control wind and thunder.
Once a person with the bloodline of the White Eagle shows signs of awakening, uncontrollable electric sparks will occasionally flicker across their body.
Suppressing the signs of bloodline awakening sounds like an incredible thing.
But Luo Ang actually did it!
After he had the idea of suppressing the signs of his bloodline awakening, a strange power arose in his soul.
That seemed to be the power that accompanied him when he came into this world.
The once arrogant white eagle, which controlled wind and thunder, became docile under that power. Even the power originating from its bloodline subsided, making it just like an ordinary person.
Thus, even now, two and a half years after the bloodline within Luo Ang has awakened, the old man of the Prosperity Beacon has not noticed anything about the awakening of Luo Ang's bloodline.
However, while Luo Ang could suppress the power of the White Eagle with the power within his soul, he could not conceal the increased concentration of the White Eagle's bloodline within his own blood after its awakening.
Not long after his bloodline awakened, the old wizard, while measuring the bloodline concentration, calculated that the concentration of the White Eagle bloodline in Loon's body had exceeded one-thousandth of what was required for awakening.
Fortunately, the power that accompanied the soul suppressed the White Eagle bloodline in a subtle yet effective way—after several observations and calculations, the old wizard could only confirm that the bloodline in Loon's body was only highly concentrated, not awakened.
Just as the old wizard was about to give up on Loon, he noticed another situation within Loon's body.
When Luo Ang was in his body, the White Eagle bloodline was no different from that of an ordinary person.
But once that blood leaves Luo Ang's body, the bloodline belonging to the White Eagle within it will be activated—just like the true, awakened White Eagle bloodline.
For Loon, this was because once the blood left his body, he could no longer control the power within his bloodline, nor could he make that power lie dormant.
But for the old wizard, this was an unprecedented surprise!
A person who can consistently produce White Eagle bloodline, yet is completely unable to grasp or sense the power of that bloodline—wouldn't that be the best talent?
Is it the best petri dish for cultivating extraordinary bloodlines?
So for the next two and a half years, Loon was receiving training from the old man while observing the situation of the lighthouse and looking for an opportunity to escape.
Or perhaps it's the possibility of killing that old man.
During the meditation, Loon's mind did not trace the runes of the meditation method.
Instead, through meditation, he guided the power within his bloodline to flow quietly through his body, observing the dormant wind and thunder power within his bloodline from a unique perspective.
When that dormant power flows, traces resembling runes appear and disappear within it, passing by in a single line.
Whenever the mark appeared, Loon would do his best to trace the mark in his mind using the method of drawing runes during meditation.
That is the Thunderclap Technique—one of the bloodline spells inherited by the White Eagle bloodline.
Those who have awakened the White Eagle bloodline can easily master this spell after completing the meditation method.
Even without inheriting the spells through blood, one can still learn the relevant magic directly.
For someone like Luo Ang, attempting to forcibly 'replicate' the Thunderclap Technique through changes in his bloodline instead of completing the meditation method is undoubtedly a counterproductive approach.
After all, before completing the meditation technique, a person's soul is simply unable to bear the "weight" of the spell.
But for Loon, this was something he could do but have no choice.
The Beacon of Prosperity, ostensibly a wizarding tower for training apprentices, is actually a breeding ground—whether one has awakened their bloodline or completed meditation, they all 'graduate' in the old man's laboratory.
Of course, Loon could complete the meditation technique, but he could guarantee that when he mastered the basics of meditation and became a wizard apprentice, that would be the time he would 'graduate' from the laboratory.
Therefore, he could only choose the inefficient method of trying to replicate the bloodline magic of the white eagle little by little, so that he could master the "Thunderclap Technique" as soon as possible before or after he entered the meditation method, so that he would have a little bit of confidence to face that old thing.
After all, that's something the White Eagle bloodline could never do—even a true White Eagle has to reach adulthood before it can unlock the power within its bloodline.
Luo Ang himself was able to do this only by relying on the mysterious power within his soul that could suppress the White Eagle bloodline.
Therefore, this old beacon of prosperity could not possibly have been prepared for this!
"Almost there, almost there!" Feeling the incomplete runes slowly emerging in his mind, which seemed incredibly 'heavy' even under the influence of that mysterious power, Luo Ang struggled to suppress the restlessness and anticipation in his heart.
A knock sounded, and the vibration of the door reached Luo Ang, interrupting his 'meditation' state.
"Young Master Luo Ang, the Tower Master wants you to go to the laboratory." An aged voice sounded from outside the door.
"Understood." Luo Ang slowly stood up, took a few deep breaths, and let the power in his bloodline subside again.
