Chapter 41 Newt Scamander
Chapter 41 Newt Scamander
From a purely experiential standpoint, Apparition feels worse than the fireplace.
Vaughn felt as if he were being squeezed into a circular tube, sliding rapidly around the center, spinning until he was dizzy, and then being squeezed out of the tube.
When he stepped onto the ground again, he staggered and almost fell, his stomach churning.
Fortunately, he didn't vomit.
Dumbledore said in a light tone, "You did better than I expected, Vaughn. In fact, Fawkes has always been rather impatient, and when it comes to Apparition, he's much more brutal than many wizards."
"Then you should remind me, Albus."
"Aren't you surprised?"
"No! No wonder Professor Snape described you to me as having a bad sense of humor, being eccentric, and being senile."
"It's heartbreaking that Severus sees me this way. He still doesn't understand what fun is!"
Dumbledore smiled and looked around for a moment, then said happily, "Oh, Fawkes didn't go to the wrong place this time. Come on, Vaughn, my kind friend is sure to be preparing to give us a warm welcome."
Dumbledore smiled and looked around for a moment before happily saying, "It seems Fawkes has remembered the Scamander family. I thought it would be like last time when we went to the beach."
Vaughn also raised his head and looked around.
The two appeared on a country road, and in the distance behind them, they could see the sea reflecting the faint moonlight under the night sky, with the sound of the waves crashing faintly in the distance.
Scamander...
Vaughn already knew who he was looking for: Newt Scamander!
Is this Dorset?
It was only after getting Fruit Tea that Vaughn became interested in magical creatures. If we're talking about who knows the most about magical creatures in the wizarding world right now, then Newt Scamander, the author of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," is definitely number one.
During the summer vacation, Vaughn even asked Arthur to inquire about Newt's whereabouts.
But since I had never met him before, I only knew that he lived in seclusion in Dorset.
Of course, his situation is different from Nicolas Flamel's, and it's unlikely that anyone would target a retired magizoologist.
So his house was not hidden; it stood right next to the country road where the two of them had come to be seen.
It was a two-story villa, with red bricks and white tiles, looking simple yet exquisite.
Dumbledore took Vaughan over and knocked on the door.
A short while later, the door opened, and a rather thin old woman appeared before the two of them.
Dumbledore had just raised his hand to greet her, saying, "Good evening, Tina, I..."
The old lady's face fell as soon as she saw him, and she slammed the door shut!
Vaughn tugged at Dumbledore's robe: "Is this what you call passion?"
Dumbledore: "..."
……
Ten minutes later, inside the small villa.
The warm fire in the fireplace licked the wood, lighting up the living room with a fiery red.
Dumbledore and Vaughn sat on the sofa, and Newt Scamander brought them tea.
"I'm sorry, Dumbledore, Tina..."
Before he could finish speaking, Tina snatched Dumbledore's tea away: "Every time he comes to you, it's to get you to solve his problems. I saw through him a long time ago. We're retired, you understand?"
Newt chuckled awkwardly, "Tina, don't do this, there are children here."
Tina glanced at Vaughn, the frost on her face quickly fading, and smiled gently, "Child, don't be afraid. Grandma Tina isn't a bad person. The one next to you, Dumbledore, is the bad guy."
They sized up Vaughn, and Vaughn sized them up, mainly Newt.
Newt's appearance was quite ordinary, nothing particularly remarkable, except for his bright eyes. They weren't the captivating brightness of Dumbledore's, but rather filled with an innocence beyond his years.
Somewhat like Hagrid, and also like Professor Kettleburn from the Magical Creatures Protection class.
Vaughn suddenly realized that these people who liked magical creatures seemed to be very simple-minded.
"Your last name is Weasley, right?" Newt suddenly asked. "Your features are so distinctive. It's quite a large family. I worked at the Ministry of Magic before I retired, and I heard that there was a Weasley in the Department for the Prohibition of the Misuse of Muggle Items. I also went to Romania to investigate dragons recently, and there was another Weasley there."
Vaughn replied, "The one in the Ministry of Magic is my father, Arthur Weasley, and the one in Romania is my brother, Charlie Weasley, Mr. Scamander."
"Oh, oh, how wonderful..."
Newt, who is a bit socially awkward, exchanged a few stammering pleasantries before handing Vaughn over to Tina for comfort and concern.
He then said to Dumbledore, "So, Dumbledore, you want me to look after those unicorns for a while?"
"Yes, Newt, I can't think of anyone more suitable than you."
Newt showed no sign of difficulty and readily said, "I can help. There's still space in the basement. But I must say, it can't be for too long. Unicorns yearn for freedom, and a captive environment is very bad for them."
Dumbledore nodded: "It won't take too long. Once we deal with that dark wizard, they can go back."
"It's unbelievable that such a vicious black witch still exists."
Newt said indignantly, adding that he was just as decisive as Hagrid. After having a cup of tea with Dumbledore and Vaughn and barely fulfilling his duty as a host, he hurried upstairs.
A moment later, when he came down again, he had changed his clothes and was carrying an old leather suitcase.
"I knew it. He couldn't be coming to you. I should have shoved you into the fireplace as soon as I closed the door."
Despite complaining, Tina still went over and straightened Newt's collar.
Dumbledore remained unfazed: "Tina, there will be no danger, I assure you."
Tina ignored him completely, and simply called out to Vaughn affectionately, "Come on, child, let the old men do their own thing. Grandma will take you to see the magical creatures."
So the two old men Apparated away, and before leaving, Dumbledore winked at Vaughn.
Vaughn suddenly realized.
He asked Lao Deng to be his henchman, and Lao Deng seemed to be using him as a tool in return.
He already knew that Tina disliked him and would likely not let him in, so he deliberately brought Vaughn along.
They knew Tina was too embarrassed to make a scene in front of the children.
Damn it!
The two sides are evenly matched!
Meanwhile, Dumbledore, who had appeared in the Forbidden Forest, was leading Newt to find the unicorn herd when he asked him, "Newt, what do you think of that boy, Vaughn Weasley?"
Newt, puzzled, thought for a moment before saying, "It's complicated, not like a child's..."
"Yes, it's complicated." Dumbledore sighed, then briefed Newt on Vaughn's current achievements, continuing, "I'm worried that he's too immersed in reason and power, but he's too mature, and I can't think of a good way to guide him."
Newt blinked his bright eyes, a little confused: "Why are you telling me all this?"
"Today, he suggested I move the unicorn, which I think is a good sign; he seems to have some interest in magical creatures... I'm wondering why I don't try to cultivate that interest in him?"
Newt finally realized: "You want me to teach him?"
Looking at Dumbledore's old face, Newt suddenly realized that Tina was right; this old man's visit was never a good thing!
