Chapter 84 Selling the Diary
Chapter 84 Selling the Diary
"Strange name..." Danitz muttered to himself, his fingers unconsciously tracing the rim of his wine glass.
Lorne didn't explain, picked up his glass and took another sip of beer.
A name that's just thrown together on the spot is already pretty good as long as it doesn't seem out of place. After all, a name is just a label.
What consequences could this have...?
……
The next day at noon, after having lunch, Lorne and Danitz parted ways temporarily.
Danitz went to deal with the bounty and loot, while Lorne, with the 1500 pounds he had advanced from the middleman, headed to the extraordinary gathering recommended by Danitz to see if he could buy a Sequence 7 potion recipe.
As for whether Danitz would run away with the money, Lorne said that if he wanted his embarrassing moments and his crush on their captain to be known to the world, he could try.
Lorne arrived at a secluded house at the address given by Danitz, and by virtue of Danitz's name, the process of joining the party went surprisingly smoothly.
Soon after, Lorne, wearing a silver mask and a dark cloak, was led into a secluded meeting room.
A dozen or so people dressed similarly to him were sitting on chairs around him.
"It's almost time, everyone, let's begin." A loud voice broke the silence.
The party officially began, and whispers filled the room.
"I want to sell some potions," a male voice, who looked to be in his thirties, said.
A potion? An extraordinary potion? Lorne's attention was drawn.
"I brought two kinds of medicine," the man said, noticing that the surrounding people's attention had been drawn to him.
"The first medication effectively stops the bleeding and promotes rapid wound healing. Believe me, it's better than most clinic sutures and can save your life in critical moments. It will remain effective for up to six months."
"As for the second one..." He paused for a few seconds before continuing, "it can make men rediscover the impulses they had when they were seventeen or eighteen, turning them into extraordinary men in bed, uh... you know, in that aspect. It has a shelf life of five months."
Aphrodisiac from another world? It seems this guy only looks respectable... I thought to myself.
However, upon further reflection, Lorne could understand this behavior. If he had the ability to create extraordinary potions, he would probably do the same.
After all, the profit margin for aphrodisiacs is indeed very high, and there's basically no need to worry about sales channels—as long as the effect is good, there's no worry about selling them.
"It will still work even after the time has passed," the man added. "The user will become extremely violent, with a significant increase in strength, speed, and agility. Of course, the effect only lasts for half an hour, after which the body will become weak."
"The first type is £20 a bottle, the second type is £3 a bottle, and quantities are limited..."
The first medicine was quite useful; it might actually save lives in an emergency... Recalling what happened today, Lorne was still a little scared.
"I want a bottle of the first type." While Lorne was thinking, someone had already raised their hand to order.
"Uh... I want a few bottles... the second kind." Another voice sounded slightly embarrassed.
"I want……"
……
The potion's popularity exceeded Lorne's expectations.
"That person has probably sold potions at this gathering before; the quality should be reliable."
Thinking of this, Lorne also raised his hand and bought a few bottles of potions.
He bought three bottles of hemostatic medicine and five bottles of aphrodisiac medicine.
Well, of course, he didn't buy the aphrodisiac for his own use. Whether before or after his transmigration, he was far from being old enough to need external help.
Lorne thought that the extraordinary potion was definitely more effective than the legendary mummy powder, and it was something that could only be obtained by chance.
Backlund has no shortage of elderly wealthy nobles; they can make a lot of money by reselling them.
If it really works well, diluting it with water could allow us to sell several more portions... Lorne suddenly had another wicked idea.
Moreover, if you encounter some older, experienced figures, these potions might just be the key to success.
……
Several more transactions followed, some successful and some unsuccessful.
Seeing that the time was right, Lorne stood up and asked:
"I want the Sequence 7 potion recipe from the 'Monster' pathway. Does anyone have it?"
"A monster?" The man selling the potions turned his head almost imperceptibly, then turned back before Lorne noticed.
……
No one answered. Lorne sat back down in disappointment.
If we can't buy anything, what can we sell?
The potion recipe for the "Diviner" pathway?
No, the security at sea is not as good as within the territory of Rune. Asking to buy a Sequence 7 potion recipe was already a bit too conspicuous. It's my first time here, so I shouldn't sell something of such high value.
But Lorne didn't want to waste this rare opportunity to attend such an extraordinary gathering.
Oh, and Russell's diary too.
Lorne thought of the history of Russell's romantic affairs that he had compiled... cough cough... collected and organized.
However, there probably aren't many fans of Emperor Roselle at sea.
Lorne had a rather rugged impression of the seaside, and as a colony, he figured not many people would like Russell.
"I'm selling some of Roselle's notes. Anyone interested?" Lorne raised his hand without much hope.
"I want it."
To Lorne's surprise, someone spoke up shortly after he began to speak.
This person looks familiar, and the voice sounds familiar too...
The response came from the seat in the far corner. The person's entire upper body was shrouded in shadow, but a strand of seaweed-like blue hair peeked out from the edge of the hood.
It was him, the one I played cards with last time… Lorne recalled his experience fighting evil alongside Danitz in the casino.
The other party was the gambler who narrowly lost to him.
Who would have thought he was a Russell enthusiast... Indeed, appearances can be deceiving.
"But I need to look at one page to check the goods first."
"Sure," Lorne readily agreed.
Alger Wilson, hidden in the shadows, carefully examined the sample diary that had been handed to him. Mr. Fool had taught him how to distinguish genuine from fake—if it contained the three symbols of "year," "month," and "day," it was basically authentic.
Seeing these symbols on the diary Lorne provided, Alger nodded almost imperceptibly.
He was lucky; he had bought the real Russell's Diary so easily... The thought of using these diaries to exchange for knowledge and help from Mr. Fool made him smile slightly.
Since both the buyer and seller were satisfied, the transaction proceeded quite smoothly.
Lorne sold five diaries in one go, two of which were genuine copies he had bought at other parties, and the remaining three were his "creations".
The few pages of the diary sold for a dozen pounds, which wasn't much, but every little bit helps. What truly pleased Lorne was that the transaction successfully validated a hypothesis—forging Russell's diary could be very lucrative.
After the transaction was completed, Lorne breathed a sigh of relief.
It seems that as long as quality control is maintained, it won't be noticed. A few pages of diary are worth several pounds. The return on investment is too high... Lorne is already conceiving the sequel to Russell's romantic history.
