Chapter 28: Robin's Conditions
Chapter 28: Robin's Conditions
Seeing Wendy almost turning her face into a little cat's mess, Moen couldn't help but laugh.
"Buzz!"
The armor on Moen's hand turned into specks of light and disappeared, revealing his arm. He then took out a tissue from his bag and wiped Wendy's face.
Children aged four or five are at their cutest; they are adorable toddlers whose every move exudes cuteness.
Wendy blew her nose and sobbed softly.
She was clearly very saddened by the separation from Gerald, who was the first person she met after getting separated from her mother, Grandine "The Dragon." Gerald protected her from the danger and gave her someone to rely on when she was lost and confused.
"Don't be sad, Wendy. That's life. It's a constant cycle of parting and meeting. Today's separation is for a better reunion next time."
Seeing the heartbroken girl, Moen gently comforted her.
"When you grow up and become an excellent mage, you can go out into the world to find Jellal."
Fearing that Wendy was too young to understand the motivational message, Moen quickly added another sentence.
"Really...really?"
Wendy stopped sobbing and stared at Moen with wide eyes.
"Of course, Wendy, be confident. You are the daughter of a dragon, and you will definitely become an outstanding mage in the future."
Moen smiled and gently patted Wendy's head. Although it was a small mushroom haircut, it was still very cute.
"Yes! I will! I still need to go find Grandine!"
Hearing Moen say "daughter of the dragon," Wendy finally cheered up. She suppressed the urge to cry and made a strong expression on her face. She didn't want to shed tears so easily.
"Want to come back with me? To Fairy Tail. It's a warm and welcoming family with lots of kids like you."
Seeing that Wendy's emotions had gradually calmed down, Moen immediately seized the opportunity and extended an invitation to Wendy to join the club.
Gerald has disappeared somewhere. Let's try to win Wendy over first. After all, he helped Wendy and Gerald before, and the girl clearly has a good impression of him, so there should be a pretty good chance of success.
After Moen finished speaking, he glanced at the old man Robin Lu standing behind him. Actually, he didn't have to be in such a hurry, but the old man behind him was obviously his direct competitor!
Moen had overheard Robin and Wendy's conversation as they left, and he was utterly shocked. This old man created so many Thought Entities just to get Wendy to join his guild?!
For a moment, Moen was truly dumbfounded.
This competitor is terrifyingly strong!
However, the stronger the opponent, the more Moen is determined to go for it. Elite? That's exactly what we're going to do!
So, Moen decided against taking things step by step and launched a "minotaur offensive" against Wendy without hesitation!
"Huh?"
Moen's invitation caused Wendy's brain to freeze for a moment. Her eyes widened, and she looked at Moen in a flustered and bewildered manner.
"But...but..."
Wendy wanted to speak, but she didn't know how to say it. Her mind was in turmoil, and she didn't know what to choose.
"No rush, Wendy, you can think it over carefully, or you can refuse. I can wait for you and go find Gerald while I'm at it."
Seeing Wendy's anxious and helpless state, Moen couldn't help but chuckle and offered to help her calm down.
Wendy is a very sensible child. Although she is only four or five years old, she is clearly not the self-centered type, which is why she is in a dilemma.
After being comforted by Moen, Wendy gradually calmed down. She turned around and looked at Grandpa Robin, who was standing at the door of the dilapidated hut with his hands behind his back and his body hunched over.
At this moment, Grandpa Robin had a smile on his face, seemingly not angry at Moen's invitation to Wendy, even though he had already created so many Thought Entities for Wendy.
'That old man's got some tricks up his sleeve!'
Seeing Robin's demeanor, Moen gritted his teeth inwardly. How could he remain unfazed even when someone tried to poach his partner right in front of him? He truly was a formidable rival!
"Wendy, are you going with this kid?"
Before Wendy could say anything, Robin Lue asked with a smile.
"I...I don't know..."
Faced with Grandpa Robin's question, Wendy's little face scrunched up, clearly very conflicted. She wasn't good at making decisions, and besides, she was only four or five years old.
"I'm sorry, Wendy, I can't let you go with him like this."
Seeing Wendy's dilemma, Robin shook his head. His words surprised Wendy and made Moen frown.
'This old man, he really isn't so easy to talk to...'
Moen thought to himself, he now had the illusion that Wendy was like a top scorer in the college entrance exam, and that he and Robin were the school's admissions officers, vying for this promising talent.
Actually, this way of thinking is quite appropriate. Wendy uses "Sky Dragon Slayer Magic" and is a "Dragon Slayer Mage". Just based on this alone, Wendy is definitely a good candidate who can get into Tsinghua or Peking University!
"Mr. Robin, I think Wendy should have the freedom to choose whether to stay or leave, right?"
Seeing that promising talents were about to be forcibly kept by Robin, and that not even one of the mission requirements would be met, how could Moen tolerate it? He immediately questioned Robin, demanding an explanation.
Mages have the right to choose to join or leave a mage guild, which is a recognized right, because mage guilds are not particularly binding organizations.
The Fairy Tail guild, of course, allows members to leave. According to Grandpa Makarov, many powerful mages have left Fairy Tail, and some have even established other famous mage guilds.
Robin's words were actually a terrible move. Even if Wendy didn't want to make that move at first, it was still a bad idea for him to say it.
"I don't know anything about Fairy Tail, nor do I know anything about you, kid. That boy named Jellal entrusted this girl to me, so naturally I can't just let you take her away like this."
Robin Lu spoke slowly and deliberately, his words sincere.
"..."
Wendy opened her mouth, but for a moment she didn't know what to say.
The same goes for Moen; this was a decisive blow that left him speechless. Even though he still had a "Fire Dragon Natsu Card" in his hand that he hadn't played yet, playing it now would be futile.
In his heart, Moen himself accepted Robin's reasoning. If he put himself in Robin's shoes, he would have done the same. He had developed respect for this powerful old man.
"Mr. Robin, you mean Wendy can leave if I can help you learn more about Fairy Tail, or bring Jellal back, is that right?"
After a moment of silence, Moen calmly asked Robin.
Robin looked at Moen with some surprise. He didn't expect Moen to be so persistent. He had just said that Wendy could refuse, but judging from his posture, he was determined to have Wendy.
"That's right."
Although surprised, Robin didn't cause any trouble. As long as Moen could prove that he and the Fairy Tail guild were good people, or bring Jellal, who had asked him to take care of Wendy, to say "yes" in person, then Moen could take Wendy away from him.
