Chapter 38: Undercurrents Beneath the Peace of the Heavens
Chapter 38: Undercurrents Beneath the Peace of the Heavens
Having defeated the Void Lord and completely eliminated the threat of the forbidden zones beyond the heavens, Isaac's will has fully merged into this universe. Now, within the heavens, all beings bask in the peaceful radiance he brings; the universe is stable and serene, all things are reviving, and the heavens are thriving.
Even though he was now the ruler of the heavens, Isaac did not stop. The stabilized universe needed an eternal guardian, a new order to ensure a future of freedom. His consciousness was as vast as the stars, encompassing all of the heavens.
As he focused on the workings of the heavens, a system notification quietly sounded, carrying a hint of unease:
[Warning: A subtle fluctuation in the laws of the universe has been detected, originating from an unknown dimensional rift. Please investigate to ensure the stability of the celestial order.]
Isaac frowned slightly. Although he had just eliminated the greatest threat to the forbidden zone, the fluctuations from this dimensional rift were clearly different from those of the Void Monarch from before. These fluctuations were very weak, yet they carried a hidden and eerie aura, seemingly not a direct threat, but rather some kind of anomaly that transcended time.
"System, locate the source of the fluctuation," Isaac ordered. The Eye of Destiny flickered slightly, beginning to detect the direction of this subtle fluctuation.
The system sprang into action, and a beam of light constructed a star map of the universe before him, marking a blurry rift in a silent space. That rift hovered in a remote area called the "Realm of Silence," deserted and untouched, like a forbidden zone that had existed since the birth of the universe.
"It seems there are indeed hidden powers within the heavens that I have not yet detected," Isaac murmured to himself, a hint of inquiry flashing in his eyes. As the ruler of the heavens, he would not allow any uncontrolled power to lurk in his universe.
He gently swung the Blade of Destiny in his hand, and a silver light streaked through the void like a meteor, forming a passage to the "Realm of Silence." Without the slightest hesitation, he flashed into the silver passage, and the scene before him instantly transformed into an endless, silent space.
Within the desolate realm, all was deathly still, a faint chill permeating the air, like an ancient graveyard that had slumbered for countless years. There was no starlight, only boundless darkness, and from within this darkness, faint, mournful cries could be heard, as if telling some untold secret.
Isaac's Eye of Destiny flickered slightly, its golden light piercing the darkness and catching a faint, lingering aura ahead. He followed the faint aura and finally saw a slowly rotating rift in a dark void. The rift rippled with eerie energy, seemingly incompatible with the rules of this world.
As Isaac approached the rift, he sensed a strange and ancient power emanating from it, as if it came from a completely different time and space. He reached out a finger and gently touched it, immediately feeling a strong suction that pulled his consciousness into a bizarre space-time.
When he opened his eyes again, the surrounding scenery had changed drastically. This was not any realm of the heavens, but a completely unfamiliar world. Before him lay an endless wasteland, broken stars floated in the void, spatial cracks resembled countless spider webs, and the dim light exuded endless desolation.
Amidst the ruins before him, a faint phantom emerged. Clad in tattered robes, its form indistinct, yet the aura emanating from it sent chills down one's spine. Isaac could sense that this phantom contained an ancient and powerful will, as if it came from the very beginning of the universe.
The phantom seemed to sense Isaac's presence, slowly raising its head, its empty eyes gleaming faintly, carrying endless vicissitudes and compassion.
"Newborn Lord of the Heavens, you have finally arrived..." The phantom's voice echoed faintly, carrying a profound resonance that seemed to transcend countless eras.
Isaac paused, looking warily at the phantom: "Who are you? Why are you in this world?"
The phantom sighed softly, as if filled with unspeakable helplessness and pity: "Me? I am the former ruler, a remnant of the old world... This is all just a cycle of fate. The ruins you see were once a glorious realm, and I was its master."
A flicker of shock crossed Isaac's eyes. He hadn't expected that this dilapidated ruin before him was once the "Heavens." Even more surprising to him was that the phantom before him was the ruler of the Old World.
"Could it be... that you, like me, once controlled the heavens?" Isaac asked coldly, a hint of wariness hidden deep within him.
The phantom nodded slightly, a hint of melancholy in its eyes: "Yes. I was once like you, a ruler of all heavens, controlling the cycle of life and death, setting the laws. However, power often brings disaster. These ruins you see are the remnants of the worlds I once ruled. The rules of the universe are destined for endless cycles, the old worlds are destined for destruction, and the new worlds will eventually repeat the same mistakes..."
Isaac's heart sank. He had never imagined that the phantom before him would reveal such a terrifying secret: the order of the heavens was not eternal, and every ruler seemed to be inevitably heading towards destruction.
“I will not repeat your mistakes!” Isaac said coldly, his gaze unwavering. “My will will bring true peace and freedom to the heavens, and this universe will never be destroyed because of me.”
The phantom shook its head slightly, with a hint of pity: "Every ruler once thought so, but their final fate remained unchanged. The power of destiny within you is an eternal shackle; only by breaking it can you truly control your own destiny."
Upon hearing this, Isaac felt a pang of doubt deep within his heart. He knew that his fate was inextricably linked to that of the heavens, but he had never imagined that the power of destiny would become a shackle on the universe.
The phantom continued, “There is only one way to break the cycle of fate… give your power to the heavens, so that every world and every living being becomes a force that protects the heavens, rather than depending on you alone.”
A wave of emotion washed over Isaac. He realized then that the phantom's suggestion wasn't entirely without merit. Although he now controlled the heavens, if he placed all the responsibility on his own shoulders, the universe might one day face another cataclysmic crisis.
“I understand…” Isaac said softly, his gaze growing increasingly profound. He realized that a true king is not one who controls everything alone, but one who involves all living beings in the protection of this universe.
He looked at the phantom and said firmly, "I will distribute the power of destiny to every corner of the heavens, giving every world the opportunity to grow, so that the heavens will no longer depend on a single ruler in the future, but will prosper on their own."
The phantom nodded slightly, a faint smile appearing on its face: "This is the true path to peace. You have grasped the true wisdom that transcends power. The fate of the new era will be changed because of your choice."
The phantom's form gradually dissipated, and the surrounding ruins vanished into nothingness. Isaac closed his eyes, feeling that power quietly disperse within him, merging into the origin of all heavens. In that instant, every being in every world gained their own destiny's power; they were no longer puppets of fate, but became its guardians.
Isaac slowly opened his eyes and found himself back at the heart of the heavens. The starlight around him grew brighter, as if it were bursting with new life because of his choice.
He gazed upon the universe, his eyes filled with boundless peace and confidence. He knew that his choice was not merely to consolidate his rule, but to ensure that every moment of the future would be filled with hope for this universe.
The system notification sounded at this moment: [The host has successfully dispersed the power of destiny, and the order of the heavens has been renewed. You have endowed all realms with the power of self-growth; from now on, the heavens will no longer be subject to the power of one person, but will be full of infinite possibilities.]
Isaac smiled slightly and said softly, "This is my final gift to the heavens. The path ahead will be walked together by all living beings."
