Chapter 10 Will We Meet Again?
Chapter 10 Will We Meet Again?
Ten days have passed!
Ban didn't know how he got through the past week or so. He slept less than four hours a day, and the first thing he did when he opened his eyes was to look for his younger brother.
In other words, they had gained the upper hand in the recent battles against the Senju clan, and the situation had eased considerably, so there was still a lot of manpower available within the clan. However, even so, they still gained nothing.
Madara stood listlessly by the river, while Izuna, holding his brother's hand, remained silent beside him.
The young boy had already said all the comforting words he could think of, but the clan still had no news of his third brother's whereabouts.
Madara gazed at the calm, still water and murmured, "Izuna, do you think Yan Yi... is still alive?"
Upon hearing his older brother's words, Izuna's tears welled up again, for he felt the same way.
"I don't know... but I believe my third brother is still alive!"
Hearing Izuna's words, Madara seemed to perk up again... "You're right! As long as I don't see the body with my own eyes, I won't believe that Yan Yi is dead!"
Inside the Uchiha clan's territory, Tajima is holding a strategy meeting.
Although Tajima was also very sad, as the head of the clan, he could not show his grief in front of his clansmen.
He had already lost two sons, both of whom died in battle before Ban. Now, he had finally had another son late in life, Yan Yi, who was intelligent, talented, and very sensible. But this lovely little son seemed to have vanished.
After so many days, Tajima had gradually given up. His youngest son was only this small; surviving in the wilderness during wartime, let alone for more than a week, would be difficult even for three days. At this point, Yan Yi was probably already in grave danger.
Although neither the person nor their body was found, Tajima had reason to suspect the Senju clan was responsible! He had previously received intelligence that an elite squad of the Hagoromo clan had ambushed a group of Senju members. According to the information, the Senju clan had come from the direction of the riverbank that Yan Yi frequented. However, those people were all dead, and the Hagoromo clan members hadn't seen Yan Yi either; the trail went cold there.
With nowhere to vent his anger, he could only lead his people in launching one siege after another against the Senju clan.
Having planned the next battle strategy, Tajima returned home and sat alone at his desk, his eyes gloomy.
"The Thousand Hands clan... I will wipe you all out sooner or later..."
......
Inside the cave, Yan Yi was sitting on the ground waiting for the board room.
When he had a fever last time, Itama took care of him wholeheartedly, which made him feel a little strange... Unlike the care between brothers, this was the first time Yan Yi had experienced that feeling.
Come to think of it, the first time they helped her get her ankle set, they did it right away, and afterwards they came over every day to talk to her. Yan Yi had long considered them her best friend.
This was the first time he had friends other than his brothers.
Not long after, Banma, as usual, ran into the cave with his pockets bulging.
"Yan Yi! Sorry to keep you waiting, are you hungry? Here, have some... it's still warm!"
Itama pulled a pancake from his pocket and handed it to Yan Yi. It was still a little hot to the touch... Itama had carried it to his chest and run all the way so that Yan Yi could eat it hot. The skin on his chest was already red from the heat.
Yan Yi was somewhat moved. After taking the pancake, she pouted and said reproachfully, "You didn't have to do this... You're so good to me, I don't know how to repay you..."
"It's okay, go ahead and eat~" Itama smiled, not taking it to heart.
He just wanted to be good to Yan Yi and take care of him. It was partly like raising a kitten, and partly like taking care of a younger brother. As the fourth child in his family, he also wanted to care for others.
After silently finishing his breakfast, Yan Yi glanced at the bandages wrapped around his feet... The injuries were almost healed, and his cold from the past two days was also gone. He had no reason to stay here any longer...
"Square rooms..."
"Hmm? What's wrong?"
He paused for two seconds, then said to Itama with a hint of sadness, "I might... have to leave."
"..."
Itama's heart skipped a beat, and her mood instantly plummeted...
That day has finally come.
But just two seconds later, he stood up and smiled at Yan Yi, saying, "That's good news! Your injuries are finally healed and you can go home. Your family must be very worried about you..."
"Square rooms..."
Yan Yi knew that the other person was only putting on a happy face because they didn't want her to be sad. But Itama had saved her, been so good to her... and taken care of her for so long. How could Yan Yi not be sad now that they had to part ways?
In this world, in this era, Yan Yi knew very well that seeing the other party would be extremely difficult, and that Itama was unaware that he was a member of the Uchiha clan, the sworn enemy of the Senju clan. Being from such two clans, even if they were to meet again, it would likely only be on the battlefield.
If it meant facing him with swords drawn, Yan Yi would rather never see him again.
Although Itama didn't know which family Yan Yi belonged to, how could he not understand Yan Yi's concerns? He shared the same thoughts.
Itama didn't speak again, but gestured with his eyes for Yan to put her foot on his lap. Yan lowered her head and obediently did so...
After removing the bandages, the swollen area had completely healed, and the scratches from the branches and thorns had returned to their smooth, white state...
It looks like it's really healed.
Itama took out the cloth he had been using to change Yan's dressings, dampened it, and used it to clean away the last traces of herbal medicine. Now, at least he didn't have to put the bandages back on.
The time for parting finally came...
Itama found a very secluded route for Yan Yi, and since the clansmen had recently suffered many losses in direct confrontations... so this route was quite safe, and it wouldn't be long before they reached the vicinity of the Namaka River.
"Thank you, Itama, thank you so much... I know you don't care about these thanks, but they come from the bottom of my heart."
Yan Yi stood in front of the partition, her long eyelashes wet... Although her experience was terrible, Yan Yi had actually been very happy during this time.
Itama's facade of being alright finally crumbled... His eyes were now brimming with tears, and his voice choked with emotion...
"Waaah... I know you'll leave here sooner or later... Yan Yi, you must think of me after you leave! Waaah... Please, please don't forget me!"
Yan Yi was able to hold back his tears, but when Ban Jian cried, he also started to lose control of his own.
"Yes! I won't forget, even though I don't know if we'll ever see each other again... but I'll never forget you! This little cave... the time we spent together, and how good you were to me... I'll always remember it in my heart!"
Hearing Yan Yi's words, Itama couldn't hold back any longer. He rushed to Yan Yi and hugged her tightly. There were no words, only the sound of sobbing...
After a long while, Banjian reluctantly let go of Yan Yi, her eyes red, and quietly looked at him.
This boy, who resembled a stray kitten, finally found his way home...
"I'm leaving..."
"Let's go...it's still early, let's hurry home...Oh, and this is for you..."
As he spoke, Itama took out a finely crafted small knife from his pocket and handed it to Yan Yi. This was something he always carried with him. A braided rope was attached to the end of the knife.
Yan Yi took it and nodded heavily.
"Hmm... I'll definitely keep it safe."
Taking a deep breath, Yan Yi wiped away the tears streaming down her face, turned around, and... left in a direction far away from the Thousand Hands clan's territory...
Itama watched Yan Yi's departing figure silently until it gradually disappeared into the woods...
She wiped away her tears, murmuring, "Goodbye..."
