Chapter 70 Examining Teachers
"What's making you so happy, Jiraiya-sensei!"
Just then, a handsome ninja with a full head of blond hair and a sunny smile walked in.
"Ah, it's Minato! Today is truly a double celebration. I didn't expect you to be back in the village too." Jiraiya laughed heartily.
As she spoke, she turned around and tried to pull Minato over to introduce Taiichi to her.
"Ah, teacher, what happened to your face?" Minato was full of surprise when he saw the injury on Jiraiya's face.
It should be noted that even with Jiraiya's strength, his master, the Hokage, might not have been able to injure him to this extent.
Taiichi covered his mouth and chuckled to himself, which left Minato completely bewildered, not knowing what had happened.
Jiraiya paused awkwardly for a moment, then chuckled to brush it off, pulling Minato to Taichi's side and saying, "Look, this is your junior brother, Tsunade's disciple. I taught him for a while too!"
"Taiichi, this is Minato Namikaze, one of the youngest Jonin in Konoha, and also my prized student!" Jiraiya introduced to Taiichi.
"Greetings, Senior Brother Minato!" Following Jiraiya's introduction, Taiichi, always quick to be polite, immediately addressed him as "Senior Brother."
"Hello, Junior Brother Taiyi! It's amazing that you've become a ninja at such a young age." Minato, being a kind-hearted person, readily accepted the title of senior brother.
Taiichi happily handed an empty cup to Minato and filled it with sake.
The gatekeeper smiled and nodded in thanks, then asked Jiraiya, "Master hasn't said why you're so happy yet?"
"What else could it be? Look, it's him." Jiraiya said, pointing to Taichi who had just sat down, and continued with a smile, "So Tsunade only taught him medical ninjutsu, but now she's really taken him as her disciple." However, Jiraiya's smile faded, and he muttered dejectedly, "Sigh, it's still a bit late."
Minato looked at Jiraiya's expression, somewhat puzzled. Jiraiya was usually very outgoing and rarely appeared so downcast. "Sensei, what happened?" Minato asked with concern.
"Tsunade has left Konoha after all!" Jiraiya sighed as he spoke to Minato.
"Ah, how could this be?" Minato was also very surprised, clearly he didn't expect that Tsunade, one of the Legendary Sannin, would leave Konoha at this time.
"Alright, let's not talk about these discouraging things. The Hokage and this brat will be the ones having a headache over Tsunade's situation." As he spoke, Jiraiya pointed to Taichi, who was standing silently to the side.
Upon hearing Jiraiya's words, Taiichi nodded silently. Since he had made up his mind to find a way to bring Tsunade back to Konoha, he would naturally have to do his part in the rest.
"Senior Minato, you haven't eaten yet, have you?" Taiichi said, seeing that Minato had sat down but hadn't touched his chopsticks. "I'll order a few more dishes, you can eat some too."
"No, I just came to buy some groceries to take back. Kushina is still waiting for me!" Minato said, a sweet smile on his face.
"By the way, Jiraiya-sensei, Kushina keeps mentioning you. She even said she'd cook for you herself when you come. How about we set a time?"
"Ah, this~" Jiraiya immediately broke out in a cold sweat. The two worst meals he had ever eaten were the insect dishes from Mount Myōboku and Kushina's culinary disaster.
"Let's go when we have time, no rush, no rush." With that, Jiraiya pulled Taichi, who was watching the scene unfold, and said, "Taichi, didn't you say you wanted me to give you some pointers on your training? Then let's go!"
"Ah~ Ah~" Taichi was completely bewildered, but seeing Jiraiya dragging him straight towards the store door, he still shouted, "Jiraiya-sensei, the money, I haven't paid yet!"
"Never mind that, training is the most important thing. Minato, you can pay for the meal for me, and this brat will pay you back later." Before he finished speaking, he had already pulled Taiichi away and disappeared.
Minato, who remained where he was, shook his head and smiled wryly. "Is Kushina's food really that bad? Why doesn't he think so?"
====
Once they were far away from the izakaya, Taichi finally managed to hold back: "Jiraiya-sensei, it can't be that bad, can it? Is Kushina's cooking really that awful!"
Taiichi, who was watching from the side, could naturally see that Jiraiya was afraid of something, but he really didn't expect it to be so exaggerated.
Jiraiya rolled his eyes at Taiichi: "You've never tried it before. I'll take you to try it sometime, and then you'll know what it's like."
"By the way, aren't you a great cook? Go show off your skills and let Kushina see what real culinary art is." Thinking of this, Jiraiya couldn't help but laugh.
Seeing Jiraiya's lewd smile, Taichi grinned and said, "Jiraiya-sensei, you just said you'd guide me in my training, you won't go back on your word, will you?"
Jiraiya looked at Taichi's smiling face, touched the still-painful wound on his face, and smiled slightly as well. "How could I, Jiraiya, go back on my word? Let's go to Training Ground 3."
After saying that, Jiraiya led the way toward Training Ground No. 3.
Taiichi, who was left behind, looked at Jiraiya's back with suspicion, wondering why Jiraiya had suddenly become so enthusiastic. But then he stopped thinking about it. Being able to get guidance from Jiraiya was something that many people would rather have than do.
Taiyi then happily chased after him.
Training Ground No. 3.
Jiraiya and Taichi each stood on one side of the training ground.
"Taiichi, go all out and attack! Let me see how much you've improved lately!" Jiraiya shouted.
Taiyi knew that today's battle opportunity was invaluable, as it would allow him to fully demonstrate his current level of strength.
Previous battles against high-level ninjas were filled with luck and calculation, not a true clash of strength. This time, I'll have to show my true colors.
"I'm here, Jiraiya-sensei!" With a shout, Taichi charged straight at Jiraiya, drawing a short sword from his back as wind-attribute chakra covered the blade.
Seeing this, Jiraiya dared not be careless. He took out a kunai from his ninja tool pouch and covered it with a layer of chakra.
The next moment, the short sword and the kunai collided with a crisp sound.
Taiichi was forced back several steps by the impact of the attack. He was too young and lacked the strength. Even with the advantage of his long weapon, he was still far inferior to Jiraiya in strength.
"Kid, your strength is lacking. You need to train more!" Jiraiya teased Taiichi, but he was actually quite surprised. Taiichi's strength had increased so quickly that it far surpassed that of his peers.
Having tested Jiraiya's strength with his first strike, Taichi naturally wouldn't engage in a direct confrontation with him again. Taking advantage of his smaller size, he resorted to trickery, his short sword slashing at Jiraiya from all sorts of unbelievable angles.
The two exchanged blows for a while. Of course, Jiraiya was clearly holding back, but this was ultimately just a friendly sparring session.
Gradually, Taiyi fought more and more smoothly, gradually solidifying his previously unstable state due to the upgrade in swordsmanship.
In Jiraiya's view, this meant that Taiichi's attacks were becoming increasingly fierce, and he had to devote more energy to dealing with Taiichi's attacks.
The flash of the blade shattered the afterimages of the kunai, and Taiichi spun around and slashed horizontally, each strike carrying the force of thunder, cleaving through the air before him.
Jiraiya had to grip the kunai with both hands to safely receive the attack. But then, his grip suddenly lightened; Taiichi had drawn his sword again, and the horizontal slash had turned into a straight thrust.
Seeing the blade tip already close at hand, Jiraiya leaped back with a light touch of his toes, simultaneously swinging his kunai horizontally to deflect Taichi's short sword.
Taiyi, not one to back down, stepped forward, swung his short sword diagonally with his right hand, and when he missed, he turned around and delivered a spinning kick.
This unexpected kick caught Jiraiya completely off guard, and in his haste, he could only block it with his arm.
With a "bang," the two separated.
