Chapter 25 Supermarket Warehouse Clearance Sale
Chapter 25 Supermarket Warehouse Clearance Sale
DAY57
The next morning, after enjoying a delicious breakfast that Lu Yuan had taken out of his spatial storage, the group went to the underground parking garage to prepare for their departure.
However, faced with such an amazing modified car, everyone except Lu Yuan, who didn't have a driver's license, wanted to drive it. After arguing for a long time, Lu Yuan saw that it was getting late and could only let them play rock-paper-scissors to take turns.
Finally, Zhong Qiang unexpectedly won the first turn in this car, followed by Pei Sihao. He unhesitatingly took the passenger seat, while the other three sat in the back. Wei Guo sat in the trunk; there was no other option given the special circumstances. Although Lu Yuan had other cars in his space, driving them out now would be too conspicuous.
Driving from the underground parking garage of the villa area back to the underground parking garage near the supermarket, the number of zombies was noticeably greater. And after more than a month of sweltering summer heat, the zombies that initially appeared as pale-skinned, clumsy, and wounded had now become more like the zombies in movies and TV shows. Their skin was bluish-gray, many of their wounds were rotting, and some had even exposed their bare bones. Some also had limb injuries, missing legs or arms.
The supermarket's employee entrance was open, and there were dried bloodstains on the blast door. The group was still among the wandering zombies rushing up and hitting their car when they saw the scumbag and a few customers who had stayed behind. They had all become part of the zombie army. However, they didn't see Zhu Nan and Lin Sisi, and they didn't know how they were doing.
There was still a distance between the employee entrance and the supermarket. To avoid any unnecessary accidents, they decided not to go up. When they left, there were so many people in the supermarket, they figured there wouldn't be many supplies left.
Zhong Qiang drove the car to the warehouse entrance. The warehouse door was open, and a former shop assistant, now a zombie, was wandering around the entrance. Hearing the car, he rushed out and joined the other zombies in pounding on the car, trying to tear the metal thing apart.
The modified G-Class was well-sealed. Lu Yuan gave the group small oxygen cylinders and then turned off Wei Guo's power. Within minutes, most of the zombies outside couldn't smell any living beings in the car and dispersed. A few stubborn ones remained, but Yang Xiao quickly swept them away after putting on his raincoat and getting out of the car. The others, eager to try, could only watch as Yang Xiao showed off his spoils.
The open warehouse door made it easy for the group to observe; there was no one inside, only a few zombies wandering around. The items on the shelves were also in disarray, indicating that the supermarket must have run out of food later. Supermarket employees brought people to the warehouse, but an accident occurred.
The group had no interest in finding out what had happened. They went into the warehouse, closed the door, removed the oxygen cylinders, and Gu Nanfeng, Yang Xiao, and the other three rushed toward the zombies who hadn't yet reacted. Lu Yuan, on the other hand, headed toward the rows of shelves.
Although there wasn't much food left in the warehouse, Lu Yuan planned to put everything else, whether useful or not, into his spatial storage first.
The other four quickly dealt with the few remaining zombies in the warehouse, but they couldn't help Lu Yuan and could only gather to the side to rest and wait. Just as Lu Yuan was getting into the swing of things, a petite figure suddenly rushed out from behind the shelf and pounced on him, trying to bite his forearm.
As expected of someone who had survived five years of apocalyptic life in his dream, Yang Xiao was exceptionally alert. He grabbed a bottle of laundry detergent from the nearby shelf and threw it at the female zombie's head. The exploding detergent splashed all over the female zombie and Lu Yuan, and the surrounding area was immediately filled with the scent of roses.
Lu Yuan's month and a half wasn't wasted. He quickly picked up the hammer tucked in his waistband and smashed it at the female zombie who was trying to pounce on his face. The moment the zombie's head was blown off, Lu Yuan saw that it was actually Zhu Nan.
He froze, and the others over there also sensed something was wrong. They walked over and saw that the female zombie with half her face smashed open was none other than Zhu Nan. They all fell silent. Who could have imagined that just a month and a half ago, this girl had escaped from the dormitory with them, and now she was like this?
Lu Yuan took a white raincoat from his spatial storage and covered Zhu Nan's body with it. The group silently bowed to Zhu Nan's remains and continued to protect Lu Yuan as he collected supplies from the other shelves, lest another zombie suddenly appear.
After Lu Yuan emptied the warehouse, the group took off their battered raincoats, sat down to eat something and rest.
"Brother Yuan, how big is this space? You've packed so much stuff in here." Zhong Qiang looked at the empty warehouse. He originally thought that Lu Yuan would only collect some food and useful things, and that they would have to spend some time picking and choosing. Who knew that Lu Yuan would collect everything, and finish collecting everything in less than an hour.
"I'm definitely going to cling to you like a leg." Yang Xiao sighed as well. In his dream, he survived the five years of the apocalypse. Although he was alive and had food every day, it was nothing compared to Lu Yuan's life. Moreover, it's hard to go from luxury to frugality. He didn't even dare to think about what would happen if Lu Yuan was gone.
"We'll get ready to leave once we've rested." Gu Nanfeng checked the time; it was past eleven.
“Next, it’s time for me to show off my driving skills.” Pei Sihao snatched the car keys from Zhong Qiang’s pocket and twirled them between his fingers as he walked toward the warehouse door.
"Hey, didn't we agree that it would be my first time driving?" Zhong Qiang hadn't reacted yet.
"Your first time is over." Gu Nanfeng patted his shoulder, changed into a new raincoat, picked up an oxygen tank, and followed him.
"Didn't expect your first time to be so short, did you?" Yang Xiao laughed unabashedly.
Lu Yuan finished equipping himself and wanted to smile, but seeing Zhong Qiang's uncomfortable look, he held it back.
"You guys are bullying us too much." Zhong Qiang said angrily as he put on his gear, and the group tiptoed back to the car.
Pei Sihao excitedly touched the steering wheel, started the car, and sped off towards the parking lot exit.
Pei Sihao was driving, and Gu Nanfeng was in the passenger seat showing him the navigation and analyzing the road conditions. Zhong Qiang was still feeling down, so he climbed from the back seat to the trunk and stared at Wei Guo, whose phone was off. Only Yang Xiao and Lu Yuan were left in the back; one had exerted a lot of effort killing zombies, and the other had expended a lot of energy using his spatial abilities. When the car entered the South Ring Road, Gu Nanfeng looked back and saw the two of them sleeping soundly together.
Pei Sihao caught a glimpse of Gu Nanfeng's gaze, glanced at the back seat in the rearview mirror, and asked in a low voice, "We've arrived at the base safely. Are you still going back to Beijing?"
Gu Nanfeng didn't answer. From his several conversations with Pei Simin, he knew that although the situation in Beijing was tense, his parents and family were safe. But what about Lu Yuan? If they went back to Beijing, what would happen to the child alone?
Seeing that Gu Nanfeng did not reply, Pei Sihao gave himself a way out, "We'll talk about it when we get to the base. Maybe going back to Beijing won't be as simple as I think."
