The golden light of the Tree of Origin had not yet completely faded, and the rustling of the branches and leaves was like a gentle breath. Just as everyone in the Temple of Time breathed a sigh of relief, a series of explosions suddenly came from outside the temple, shaking the ground slightly.
"What happened?" Lin Ye abruptly stood up, his chest wound still throbbing, but the sense of crisis made him disregard it. He rushed out of the temple first, and the scene before him made everyone gasp in shock.
The once clear Namekian sky was now filled with countless black vortexes, each spinning wildly and constantly spewing out mechanical creatures with bat wings. These monsters were jet black, with eyes flashing crimson, and spewing corrosive black liquid from their mouths. They were frantically attacking nearby Namekian villages, causing round houses to collapse under their destruction, and the screams and cries for help of the villagers echoed throughout the area.
"What are those damned things?" Trunks gripped the sword on his back, silver energy rapidly gathering on the blade, ready to charge into battle at any moment. He watched as a mechanical creature tore through the walls of a house with its sharp claws, his brow furrowing deeply.
Anise followed closely behind as she exited the temple. Suddenly, a blinding red light flashed from the tip of her scepter, accompanied by a rapid beeping alarm. Her expression changed drastically, and she spoke quickly: "Remnants of Chaos! Mechanical monsters created by Kronos's fanatical followers using fragments of his remaining spacetime. They have no consciousness; they only know how to devour life energy to strengthen themselves!"
"Absorb life energy?" Gohan clenched his fists, golden flames emanating from his body. "Then the villagers are in danger!"
"Don't panic, I'm here!" Vegeta's voice rang out as he charged forward, a deep blue aura forming a sturdy shield around him, knocking away two mechanical creatures that were about to attack the villagers. He punched one of the monsters in the head, and with a "bang," the monster was instantly smashed to pieces, its parts scattered all over the ground.
Before he could even catch his breath, the fragments on the ground suddenly began to wriggle, instantly reforming into three smaller but faster mechanical monsters that lunged at him menacingly. Vegeta's face darkened, and he cursed under his breath, "Damn it! These things can't be killed? They just split apart after being destroyed!"
Lin Ye narrowed his eyes, carefully observing the black vortex in the sky and the mechanical monsters on the ground. He quickly discovered the key: "Their energy source is in those vortices! As long as we destroy the vortexes and cut off the energy supply, they will not be able to regenerate!" He raised his hand and condensed several golden energy bullets, which he then shot towards the largest vortex in the sky.
The gas blast exploded with blinding light the moment it struck the vortex, and the vortex's rotation slowed noticeably, but it soon returned to its original speed. Lin Ye frowned; he had expended too much energy earlier, and his current power was insufficient to completely destroy the vortex.
Just then, the largest black vortex suddenly stopped spewing out mechanical monsters, and a figure draped in a black cloak slowly descended from it, hovering in mid-air with his feet off the ground. His face was covered by a wide hood, and only a pair of eyes that flickered with an eerie red light could be seen. He exuded a chaotic aura similar to that of Kronos, but even more sinister.
“I didn’t expect you could actually defeat Kronos.” The cloaked man’s voice was hoarse and deep, like sandpaper rubbing against each other. “But it doesn’t matter. He was part of the plan from the beginning. His death was used to deplete the power of the Tree of Origin and pave the way for me to open the Gate of Chaos.”
"A plan?" Lin Ye stepped forward, blocking the villagers' path, and stared warily at the cloaked figure. "Who are you? What do you want?"
The cloaked figure chuckled, his laughter laced with malice: "I am an emissary of Lord Chaos, sent to cleanse this decaying universe from which it is about to be eliminated." He pointed to the Tree of Origin behind the temple, his tone laced with mockery, "Look at that tree. Its spacetime primordial power has been completely exhausted by Kronos; now it's just a useless withered tree. Before long, the entire Seventh Universe will be swallowed by Chaos and return to nothingness."
"Stop talking nonsense!" Wukong's voice came from the side. He had just moved a group of villagers to safety, and his body was filled with the silvery-white aura of Ultra Instinct. "As long as we're here, we won't let you succeed!"
"Goku is right!" Bulma's voice suddenly rang out from everyone's communicators, accompanied by a noticeable static. "I just analyzed the remains of those mechanical monsters with the spacetime monitor, and their cores contain fragments of Chronos's spacetime! We can purify these fragments and render them inactive using the energy of the Origin Tree!"
Lin Ye immediately turned to look at Anise beside him: "Can you still mobilize the energy of the Origin Tree?"
Anise shook her head, her face deathly pale. She had to hold onto her scepter to stay upright: "Activating the Primal Law just now has exhausted most of the tree's remaining energy. It will take at least an hour to recover to a level where it can purify the fragments."
"An hour?" Trunks' voice was filled with anxiety. He had just used his sword to knock away a lunging mechanical monster, and the blade was already covered in a black, oily liquid. "We can't hold out that long! There are more and more of these things!"
Mechanical monsters surged in like a tide, completely surrounding Goku and Vegeta. Although some monsters were destroyed, more poured out of the vortex. Gohan, protecting the villagers, could only defend passively and was gradually becoming overwhelmed.
Vegeta roared, his deep blue aura suddenly surging, his muscles expanding wildly, and his aura instantly increasing several times over: "I have to hold on even if I can't hold on! Let's take care of this cowardly guy first, then things will be much easier!" He suddenly broke through the monsters' encirclement, his fist carrying earth-shattering power, and smashed fiercely towards the cloaked man.
"Overestimating yourself." The cloaked figure sneered disdainfully, raising his hand to lightly block, and a black energy barrier instantly formed. Vegeta's fist slammed solidly into the barrier, producing a loud "clang." The barrier remained unmoved, while Vegeta was shaken so badly that his hands went numb, and he staggered backward.
"How is this possible?" Vegeta looked at his fist in disbelief. He had used eighty percent of his strength in that punch, yet it couldn't even break through his opponent's defense.
The cloaked figure ignored him, and suddenly appeared behind Lin Ye as if by teleportation, pressing his icy hand firmly against the back of Lin Ye's neck. A bone-chilling cold instantly spread throughout Lin Ye's body; he could even feel the chaotic power emanating from the other's palm surging wildly into his body.
"What are you doing?!" Lin Ye struggled to break free, but found his body bound by an invisible force, unable to move. What alarmed him even more was that the residual Kronos spacetime power within him was awakened by this chaotic power and began to run rampant uncontrollably.
His eyes gradually turned gold, and countless spacetime runes appeared on his skin. Divine power, the power of spacetime, and the power of chaos clashed wildly within his body, each collision causing him excruciating pain. "Let me go!" Lin Ye roared through gritted teeth, his voice distorted with agony.
"Too late." The cloaked figure leaned close to his ear, his voice like the hiss of a venomous snake. "Your body contains the spacetime power of Kronos, the perfect key to activate the Gate of Chaos. Now, the Gate of Chaos has begun to open, and no one can stop it!"
Everyone turned to look, and saw a massive black rift slowly expanding in the distant sky, emanating a suffocating aura of chaos that distorted and warped the surrounding space. Anise stared at the rift, her body went limp, and she collapsed to her knees in despair: "It's over...it's really over...once the power of chaos descends, there's no going back..."
The cries of the villagers, the roars of the mechanical monsters, and the rumble of the expanding cracks mingled together, an atmosphere of despair enveloping the entire Namekian planet. Lin Ye could feel the power of the Gate of Chaos constantly pulling at his soul, and his consciousness began to blur.
Just then, a dazzling golden light suddenly shot out from the direction of the Temple of Time—it was the Tree of Origin!
The light from the Tree of Origin surged once more, more dazzling than ever before. All the spacetime runes on its trunk lit up, forming a golden pillar of light that shot straight towards Lin Ye. The instant the pillar of light touched Lin Ye's body, the raging energy within him suddenly calmed down. The power of the Tree of Origin, like a gentle stream, enveloped his limbs and bones, creating a wondrous resonance with the divine power and spacetime power within him.
"This is...?" Lin Ye was surprised to find that he could clearly sense the consciousness of the Tree of Origin, and even freely mobilize its power. The originally violent spacetime forces, under the guidance of the Tree of Origin, became docile and powerful.
The cloaked man's expression finally changed. He looked at Lin Ye in disbelief, his voice trembling: "Impossible! How can you control the power of the Origin Tree? It clearly exhausted its energy!"
Lin Ye didn't answer. He slowly raised his hands, and countless golden particles of light flew out from the branches of the Origin Tree, converging above his head into a massive energy sphere. The energy sphere contained pure spacetime primordial power, radiating an awe-inspiring aura. He stared at the black rift in the air, his tone resolute: "You opened this door, so you must close it yourself!"
With that, he swung his hand sharply, pushing the energy ball towards the black rift. The energy ball pierced the sky, carrying the power to destroy everything, and collided violently with the black rift.
"No...!" The cloaked figure let out a shrill scream, trying to rush forward to stop it, but was blasted away by the aftershocks of the energy ball.
A blinding light instantly engulfed the entire sky. The mechanical monsters melted away like snow in the light, the black vortexes in the air collapsed, and even the enormous black rift began to shrink under the impact of the light. The cloaked figure's body gradually became transparent in the light. He reached out as if to grasp something, but ultimately left behind only a bitter curse: "I will not fail... Lord Chaos will avenge me... You all wait...!"
As the light gradually faded, the cracks in the sky completely closed, and the mechanical monsters and black vortexes vanished without a trace. Only the ravaged land of Namek testified to the fierce battle that had just taken place.
Lin Ye could no longer hold on. His body went limp, and he collapsed to the ground, all his strength drained away. He didn't even have the strength to lift his hand. "Finally... it's over..." he gasped, a relieved smile on his lips.
Anise slowly walked to his side, helped him up, and smiled with relief: "No, this is just the beginning. You have truly mastered the power of the Tree of Origin. From now on, the responsibility of protecting the Seventh Universe and resisting the invasion of Chaos will be officially entrusted to you."
Lin Ye looked up at the Tree of Origin. The runes on its trunk were still flashing, as if conveying a message of encouragement to him. He knew that the responsibility on his shoulders was heavier than ever before, but when he saw Goku, Vegeta, Trunks and the others busy comforting the villagers, when he saw Bulma checking the equipment, and when he saw the trust in Anise's eyes, his heart was filled with strength.
As long as his friends are by his side, he can overcome any difficulty.
However, just when everyone thought the crisis was completely over, the God of Destruction badge on Lin Ye's chest suddenly flickered, and a faint black mark flashed on the back of the badge before disappearing again, unnoticed by anyone.
Chapter 413: A New Mission
The restoration work on the Temple of Time was in full swing. The Namekians formed a circle, their hands forming hand seals as they chanted ancient incantations. Pale green life energy flowed from their fingertips, covering the cracked divine bricks and gradually smoothing out the jagged fissures. Bulma squatted before a silver-white instrument, her fingers flying across the virtual keyboard, the data streams on the screen reflecting her focused expression.
Lin Ye sat alone under the shade of the Tree of Origin, a golden particle of light between his fingertips. The particle slowly rotated in his palm, radiating a warm sensation. The spacetime mysteries it contained were like a vast starry sea, immersing him completely. Since gaining control of the Tree of Origin's power, he could always see countless fragmented scenes within this particle of light: the brilliance of the universe's birth, the tragic grandeur of planetary destruction, and the traces of countless lives struggling through spacetime.
"Hey, what are you standing there for?" A familiar voice rang out, and Vegeta tossed over a bottle of iced drink, the can arcing through the air. Lin Ye caught it, looked up to see Vegeta standing in front of him with his arms crossed, his face still bearing that impatient expression. "We defeated the remnants of Chaos, we should be celebrating, but instead, you've been frowning all day, like someone owes you money."
Lin Ye pulled open the can, the cold liquid sliding down his throat, clearing his muddled thoughts somewhat. He gave a wry smile, shaking the particles of light in his palm: "I was thinking about what Anise said yesterday. She said that from now on, the responsibility of protecting the Seventh Universe rests on my shoulders. Do you think I can really do it?"
“Otherwise?” Vegeta sat down beside him, his gaze drifting to the Namekian village in the distance, where the joyful laughter of villagers rebuilding their homes could be heard. “You’re now someone who can mobilize the power of the Origin Tree. Besides you, who else can shoulder this responsibility? Beerus is still fast asleep, and Whis can’t directly interfere in cosmic affairs. Are we going to rely on Goku, that idiot whose head is only for fighting?”
Mentioning Goku, Lin Ye couldn't help but smile. In the distance, on an open field, Goku was training with Gohan and Trunks, his hearty laughter echoing from time to time. He looked down at the particles of light in his palm, his mind flashing back to his journey to this world: the bewilderment upon arriving in the Dragon Ball world, the tension of fighting alongside Goku for the first time, his perseverance in pushing his limits time and time again during the God of Destruction trials, and the life-or-death moments fighting Chronos with his companions.
"I never imagined that I, a former overworked office worker, would one day be protecting the entire universe," Lin Ye sighed softly, his voice filled with emotion.
Vegeta glanced at him, unusually refraining from mockery, and simply patted him on the shoulder: "Stop being so sentimental. Saiyans never fear challenges, they only grow stronger in battle. Besides, you're not alone; Goku, Piccolo, and the others will all help you."
Lin Ye looked up at Vegeta. Although the other still wore a haughty expression, the sincerity in his eyes was undeniable. A warm feeling welled up inside him, and he nodded, "Thank you, Vegeta."
"No need to thank me. I just don't want to see Universe 7 destroyed by those Chaos bastards. Then we won't even have a decent opponent." Vegeta turned his face away, his tone still firm, but his ears were slightly red.
Just then, Bulma's voice suddenly came from the direction of the temple, filled with obvious urgency: "Lin Ye! Vegeta! Come quick! The spacetime monitoring device has made a major discovery!"
The two exchanged a glance, then immediately stood up and ran towards the temple. Bulma stood before the monitoring device, her face grave as she pointed at the screen. The screen displayed a distant star field; in the center of what was once a brilliant galaxy, a black sphere was expanding rapidly. The surrounding planets, as if drawn by an invisible force, were all flying towards the black sphere, instantly swallowed up upon contact, leaving not even a trace of light behind.
"What is this?" Lin Ye frowned. He could feel a chilling gravitational pull emanating from the black sphere on the screen.
Bulma pulled up more data charts, circling several key parameters on the screen: "This is a man-made black hole, and according to monitoring data, its expansion rate is growing exponentially. If it's not stopped soon, within a month, all the planets in the Seventh Universe will be swallowed up by it."
"An artificial black hole?" Trunks and Gohan rushed over, their expressions turning serious upon seeing the scene on the screen. "Could it be another trick by the remnants of Chaos?"
Anise then approached, her expression more grave than anyone else's, the crystal at the top of her scepter emitting a faint glow: "That's right, this must be a conspiracy by Chaos. Unable to invade Universe Seven through the Gate of Chaos, they created this artificial black hole, intending to completely destroy our universe in this way."
"Then let's hurry up and destroy it, won't we?" Wukong rubbed his hands together, eager to set off. "Perfect for stretching our muscles!"
“It’s not that simple.” Anise shook her head, her tone heavy. “The gravitational field of this artificial black hole is stronger than we imagined. Ordinary attacks not only can’t harm it, but they’ll also be absorbed by its gravity, making it even stronger. Moreover, it’s surrounded by a barrier formed of chaotic energy, which can only be broken by the spacetime primordial power of the Tree of Origin.”
Lin Ye clenched his fist, a resolute glint in his eyes: "I understand. Then I'll break the barrier, and you'll be responsible for destroying the black hole's core."
"No! It's too dangerous!" Bulma immediately objected, grabbing Lin Ye's arm and speaking urgently, "The gravity of the artificial black hole will suck you in! Once you're in, you'll never get out!"
"I know it's dangerous, but we have no other choice." Lin Ye gently patted Bulma's hand, his tone leaving no room for argument. "To protect Universe 7, to protect everyone, no matter how dangerous it is, I have to go. Bulma, with your skills, can you build a spacecraft that can withstand super-strong gravity?"
Bulma bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, and finally nodded: "I can give it a try. I've studied Namek's alloy technology before, and combined with Capsule Corporation's anti-gravity device, I should be able to build a spacecraft that meets the requirements. But this will take time, at least seven days."
"Seven days? That's enough." Lin Ye looked at everyone. "In these seven days, we need to make thorough preparations. Vegeta, Goku, Trunks, Gohan, you all need to seize the time to train and increase your power as much as possible to ensure that you can destroy the black hole's core immediately after breaking the barrier. Piccolo, please help guide the villagers to speed up the reconstruction, and at the same time, be vigilant about the surrounding situation to prevent the remnants of Chaos from taking the opportunity to launch a sneak attack."
“Leave it to me.” Piccolo nodded, his gaze steady.
For the next seven days, everyone threw themselves into the intense preparations. Bulma practically lived and ate in the lab, her eyes bloodshot, yet she refused to rest for a moment, occasionally yelling at the blueprints to vent the pressure of the research and development process. Vegeta and Trunks were immersed in the gravity training room, where the gravity was constantly increasing, and the sounds of clashing fists and Vegeta's roars never ceased. Goku was not to be outdone, dragging Gohan to train every day on the Namekian wasteland, from sunrise to sunset, constantly honing his Ultra Instinct.
Under Anise's guidance, Lin Ye spent his days sitting before the Tree of Origin, diligently sensing the power of spacetime within his body. He gradually gained greater mastery over this power, not only able to condense more powerful energy attacks but also to briefly distort the surrounding gravitational field using the power of spacetime, preparing to counter the gravity of the artificial black hole.
On the morning of the seventh day, as the first rays of sunlight touched the top of the Temple of Time, Bulma finally emerged from the laboratory, a tired yet excited smile on her face: "Success! The spacecraft is ready!"
The group rushed to the helipad, where a sleek, silver spaceship sat silently. Its hull was made of Namekian alloy with a metallic sheen, and massive anti-gravity devices were mounted on both sides of the hull. The thrusters at the rear emitted a faint blue glow.
“The spaceship’s hull can withstand the gravitational pull of a black hole’s edge, and its anti-gravity device can counteract most of the gravitational effects, but it can only last for thirty minutes,” Bulma explained, pointing to the instruments on the spaceship. “After thirty minutes, the device’s energy will run out, and you must complete your mission and evacuate before then.”
Lin Ye donned a specially made black combat suit, inlaid with gems condensed from the energy of the Origin Tree, enhancing his control over spacetime. He stepped into the cockpit, familiarizing himself with the spaceship's interface: "Don't worry, we'll definitely be back on time."
Vegeta, Trunks, Goku, and Gohan followed them into the spaceship. Vegeta patted Lin Ye on the shoulder: "Don't let us down. If we can't even break through the barrier, it'll be a huge embarrassment for us."
"Don't worry, you won't be disappointed." Lin Ye smiled and started the spaceship's engines.
The spaceship slowly ascended, blue flames billowing from its tail, heading towards the star system containing the artificial black hole. Lin Ye sat in the pilot's seat, watching the receding stars outside the window, his heart filled with determination. He knew this battle would be unprecedentedly difficult, but he wasn't afraid. Because he wasn't fighting alone; beside him were his most trusted partners.
The spaceship passed through an asteroid belt, and the distant black sphere grew clearer, its suffocating gravity palpable even from a great distance. Lin Ye took a deep breath and gripped the control stick tightly: "Ready? We're about to begin!"
"We've been ready for a long time!" everyone answered in unison, their eyes gleaming with fighting spirit.
The silver spaceship shot off like an arrow, hurtling towards the all-consuming black abyss. A battle for the survival of the Seventh Universe was about to begin.
Chapter 414: Black Hole Crisis
The silver spacecraft sped through the vast universe, the stars outside the window stretched into blurry streaks of light, and the instrument panel in the cockpit flashed with a cold blue light. Lin Ye gripped the control stick tightly, his knuckles turning slightly white from the force, his eyes fixed on the front. According to the coordinates transmitted by Bulma, the artificial black hole was located deep within this star field.
"A high-intensity gravitational field has been detected ahead, and the energy parameters are continuously rising." Alice's electronic voice sounded in the cockpit, and a striking red warning popped up on the holographic projection: "We are expected to enter the gravitational influence range of the black hole in ten minutes. Please prepare for impact."
Vegeta rose from his seat, walked to the porthole, and crossed his arms. A deep blue aura flickered around him, and his eyes gleamed with excitement and fighting spirit: "We're almost there. This time, we'll drag those Chaos scum hiding in the shadows out and crush them completely!"
“Father, we must not be careless.” Trunks gripped the hilt of his sword, his fingertips tracing the cold blade. “Aunt Bulma said that the gravity of this black hole is stronger than that of any known celestial body, and we could be swallowed up if we are not careful.”
"What's there to be afraid of? Saiyans are never intimidated by such ethereal power." Vegeta snorted, but still subconsciously glanced at the gravity readings on the dashboard, his tone slightly softening. "But you're right, let's deal with the black hole first."
Lin Ye nodded and adjusted the spacecraft's course: "Everyone, fasten your seatbelts. Once we enter the gravitational field, the spacecraft may experience severe turbulence. Goku and Gohan, you two are responsible for keeping watch on the surroundings to prevent any sudden attacks from the remnants of chaos."
“Leave it to me!” Goku patted his chest, his sharp eyes scanning the window. “I’ll spot any enemy that gets close immediately!” Gohan nodded in agreement, a faint golden aura emanating from his body, ready for battle at any moment.
Ten minutes passed in the blink of an eye. The instant the spacecraft entered the gravitational pull of the artificial black hole, the entire ship suddenly began to shake violently, as if gripped tightly by an invisible hand. Items inside the cockpit floated up, the space outside the windows began to distort and deform, and even the starlight took on eerie arcs.
"Hold on! The anti-gravity system is operating at full capacity!" Bulma's voice came through the communicator, accompanied by noticeable electrical static. "I've adjusted the energy output, which should offset some of the gravitational effects, but you need to act quickly, the system won't last much longer!"
Lin Ye gritted his teeth, barely managing to stabilize the joystick thanks to his control over the power of origin. He looked up at the window, his heart clenching. The artificial black hole was even more terrifying than what the monitoring equipment showed. It was a black sphere with a diameter exceeding tens of thousands of light-years, its surface constantly devouring the surrounding nebulae and meteorites. Countless fragments of broken planets formed a massive vortex around it, like a halo encircling a behemoth, radiating a suffocating sense of oppression.
"We'll reach the Chaos Energy Barrier in five minutes." Alice's voice rang out again, and the holographic projection clearly showed the pale black barrier surrounding the black hole. "The barrier has an extremely high energy density; we'll need to concentrate all our strength to break through it."
Lin Ye took a deep breath and closed his eyes. The power of origin within his body began to circulate rapidly, and golden light seeped from his body, gradually covering the entire cockpit. He could clearly feel the connection between himself and the Tree of Origin; that warm and powerful force surged in like a tide, dispelling the oppressive feeling brought by the black hole's gravity.
“Ready.” He opened his eyes, which gleamed with golden light, and his tone was unwavering.
As the spacecraft approached the chaotic energy barrier, Lin Ye abruptly flung open the hatch and leaped into the frigid universe. The power of origin formed a sturdy golden shield around him, resisting the gravitational pull of the black hole. He hovered before the barrier, slowly raising his hands, golden energy coalescing into a massive sphere of light in his palms.
"Power of Origin, break!"
With a loud shout, the energy ball slammed into the pale black barrier like a cannonball. "Boom...!" A deafening explosion echoed through the universe as golden light and black chaotic energy collided violently, creating ripples of energy that filled the sky. A small crack appeared on the barrier, but it was quickly filled and healed by the surrounding chaotic energy.
"Useless?" Lin Ye frowned, somewhat surprised. He could feel that he had used seventy percent of his power in the attack just now, yet it could only barely break through the surface of the barrier.
