But why would Luo Xiu bring this up...?
He had a vague feeling that this was an opportunity, the "opportunity" his father had once mentioned, had come before him. If he could seize it, his wealth might reach new heights.
"Boom boom boom!"
There was a knock on the door.
Philip's uniquely hoarse voice, typical of a boy going through puberty, came through, tinged with a hint of trepidation:
"Boss... I'm back."
"Come in, the person has already left."
Hep opened his mouth.
crunch--
The door was pushed open, and Philip peeked in cautiously before stepping inside and carefully closing the door behind him.
"Boss, our Bard Cult has recruited three more people today, just as you said, people who are too poor to continue living on the outskirts of Kanriel..."
……
Late at night, the sky is dotted with stars and the bright moon hangs high.
Kanriel was as quiet as it had been the past few days, and the Knights' curfew was still in effect.
In a narrow square between some residential buildings, Pojelica, wearing a cloak, sat on the steps of the square waiting.
The Knights Order has been unusually peaceful these past few days, even more so than she had imagined. It seems that the battle that night did not attract the attention of anyone within the Knights Order.
But she was thoughtful and considered many things, and knew that this was impossible.
The battle that night caused a huge uproar, and surely someone would have noticed it, but there has been no unusual activity within the Knights Order these past few days.
Even Miler and Leila didn't come to see her, and Lundelor and Dorian had little contact with her because of their different roles.
That bloody and desperate night was like a dream, which vanished with the dawn, and everything returned to normal.
Sometimes she even wondered if she was now a traitor to three sides, or if that night had never happened and she was still Earl Shek's man.
She couldn't figure it out, so she specially arranged to meet everyone here that night, not only because the duel was about to begin tomorrow, but also because she wanted to alleviate some of her own anxiety.
She is very uneasy, as if her feet are dangling in the air and unable to touch the ground.
After waiting for a while, three figures, gradually increasing in height, walked over from a distance.
Looking at Leila and the other two in front of her, Pojelica felt her unease lessen somewhat:
"You are here."
Chapter 149 The duel begins!
"coming."
Milair nodded, smiling as he surveyed the surrounding buildings. It seemed to be a piece of land that had been abandoned for many years, with no one living in the nearby houses. He wondered how Pojelica had found it.
Pojelica now knew that Leila was the leader among them. Seeing Leila's happy expression, she asked:
"Has something good happened to Lady Leila?"
"There are two Tier 2 Demon Bats tonight."
Leila's eyes curved into crescents as she smiled, and her ears twitched.
Pojelica remained silent. She had heard that Leila had a strange habit of fighting demon bats, but she only realized that it was Luo Xiu who had arranged the work a few days ago when she overheard him doing so.
She didn't know the reason, but this situation was quite common; some people just hated monsters to the core.
"Lady Leila is really lucky."
After offering a compliment, Pojelica fell silent.
But the atmosphere didn't fall silent. Miler and Leila chatted quietly, and Tassanya would occasionally chime in. However, the group didn't interact much with Pojelica.
Pojelica knew that this meant they didn't consider her one of their own.
This is a process that traitors have to go through, so she doesn't really care.
After a while, Rose and Dorian arrived one after the other.
The two seemed to have spoken on their way here; Dorian looked somewhat awkward, while Rose was smiling as usual.
"We are not the last one."
Rose raised her arms and called out softly with a smile.
"But not too much different."
Lundel's voice echoed softly as his figure slowly rose from the shadows in a corner.
"Professional cheating."
Rose pouted and muttered something.
"All right."
Miler stepped forward and called for a halt. She looked at Pojelica and said:
"Pojelica, did you call us out tonight because you have something to say?"
Pojelica nodded:
"Tomorrow... that gentleman will be participating in the duel. I'm not sure what to do, so I'd like to ask about the progress of your work these past few days."
"Is that why?"
Rose spoke, her beautiful eyes sparkling.
"Is Lady Rose very confident?"
Pojelica glanced at Rose.
"Okay."
Rose smiles:
"The main reason is that I am confident in that gentleman."
Bojelica remained silent. Rose's words were always half-truths and not very credible. In her opinion, Rose was the one who distrusted Luo Xiu the least.
Finally, it was Milair who stepped forward again.
She looked at the group of people with varying expressions and felt a headache coming on. These people were harder to bring together than she had imagined. Finally, she spoke:
"There's no need to report on your individual work progress, but I'd like to get everyone together for a chat because I feel something's been off within the Knights lately. I wonder if any of you feel the same way."
"agree."
Rose was the first to raise her hand:
“I’ve been running into Mr. Peggy a lot these past few days. Although he hasn’t said anything or changed his expression when we meet, the frequency has obviously increased.”
Dorian nodded in agreement:
“I used to not see Lord Peggy for several days at a time, but recently I run into him two or three times a day. I’ve even become more careful when dealing with infected people, afraid that he might suddenly appear.”
Lundel spoke up, pointing out another anomaly:
"His Excellency Barr has been acting strangely lately."
He was always concise, and while he didn't specify what was wrong with Baal, the topic he raised resonated with others. Poderica nodded in agreement.
"His Excellency Barr has become more cheerful lately, and he seems less angry than before."
"He seems to have encountered something happy; I've tried to chat with him several times in the past few days."
Miler began by recounting the conversations that Baal had recently had with her, mostly about everyday matters.
But this is a bit unusual. Baal has never liked talking about everyday things, considering it a waste of time.
Tassanya and Leila also noted that Bar and Page have been frequently in the public eye lately.
"Some things can be speculated; perhaps they did indeed catch their attention that night."
Milair concludes.
"I think so too, but it seems they haven't taken any action yet."
Pojelica opened her mouth:
"Although we won't discuss the progress of the work, I still want to say that I have finished organizing all the files, and I will take them to that gentleman after the duel tomorrow."
"Oh, I understand."
Rose's eyes curved into crescents:
"Bojelica, you still doubt whether that gentleman will appear tomorrow, or whether he can win his duel with Lord Gallo, right?"
Rose wasn't entirely right, but she touched on some of Bodjelica's innermost thoughts.
She was silent for a moment, then finally spoke softly:
"There's a reason why Lord Milair dislikes you."
Seeing that the atmosphere was about to turn sour again, Milair quickly announced the disbandment.
See you on the duel stage tomorrow, everyone.
"By the time this concludes tomorrow, I believe everyone will have reached a conclusion."
Everyone listened to Miler's words and acquiesced.
Even Rose, who always liked to talk back and stir up trouble, didn't say a word; tomorrow was indeed very important.
If Luo Xiu takes the stage tomorrow and defeats Gallo, then everyone will be completely bound to Master Tata's ship and become partners in the same boat.
This marked the official launch of Luo Xiu's ship.
But if Luo Xiu dies by Gallo's sword tomorrow, what will become of the others...?
With these thoughts in mind, everyone returned to their respective residences, quietly awaiting the arrival of tomorrow amidst their reflections and anxieties.
……
The next morning.
