Chapter 10 Nobleman Li Pu
Chapter 10 Nobleman Li Pu
Chunfen nodded hurriedly, "The girl has already cooked it and it's keeping warm in the small kitchen."
That bowl was a Dragon Tiger Energy Soup that Qiao Qingshu specially prepared for her father. Her father had to keep vigil at night, which would consume a lot of his essence and energy, so he needed to be well nourished.
He waved his hand and said,
"I delivered it to my father's study. He was tired from the journey and said it was a gift from me to show my filial piety."
He then pointed to the Spring Equinox Road.
"You can watch your father drink it, and remember to take the bowl back."
Spring Equinox nodded and left.
Sobbing could be heard from inside the room. Qiao Qingshu turned her head and saw Lin Dong sitting on an embroidered stool, crying.
Lin Dong covered her face with a handkerchief and cried, her back trembling.
"So this is what the Second Master is like. My Second Madam has been kept in the dark for so many years."
Xia Zhi patted her back gently from the side, and said somewhat stiffly,
“I feel sorry for Madam too! What kind of mess is this? It turns out that the Second Master was secretly having an affair with Aunt Xu. I really want to knock that aunt unconscious with a stick and give her a good beating.”
Standing to the side, Wanqiu, hands on her hips, pointed at Lindong and said...
"Why are you crying? What's the use of crying now? You're useless."
He reached out and poked Xia Zhi's strong arm again.
"Xia Zhi, you're just as simple-minded and strong-willed. This kind of thing can't be solved by just beating her up. We need to think about it carefully and plan ahead. We must give Madam a chance to vent her anger!"
Qiao Qingshu looked at her girls, who had all grown up together but had distinct personalities.
Of the four first-class maids, Lin Dong was a dutiful and honest girl, quiet and diligent. Wan Qiu was feisty and intelligent, and usually spoke sharply and decisively.
Summer Solstice is robust and impulsive with a simple mind, while Spring Equinox appears dull and honest but is actually quite shrewd.
Lin Dong and Wan Qiu were both servants chosen by the Bai family for Qiao Qingshu. Xia Zhi was originally a street performer who sold herself to bury her father. Qiao Qingshu saw her and bought her when she went out to play during the Qixi Festival. Chun Fen was assigned by Old Madam Qiao.
The four of them grew up with Qiao Qingshu since they were little, and they had a deep bond with each other.
Of these four, only the one who betrayed her master and climbed into his bed after the Spring Equinox was the one who was loyal to Qiao Qingshu.
The thought of Chunfen still working with Liu Wan'er to deal with her after the Spring Equinox made Qiao Qingshu feel extremely choked up. She wondered when Chunfen had gotten involved with Liu Wan'er. Keeping her around was always a threat. She had to be wary of this girl and get rid of her in the Qiao family as soon as possible!
I'm not worried about the other three.
After clearing my thoughts, I had a plan in mind.
A moment later, seeing the three girls still chatting amongst themselves about avenging their mother, she stood up, clapped her hands, and laughed.
"It seems my mother hasn't spoiled you all for nothing. She's still thinking about avenging the madam. There'll be a good show tonight. Girls, I'll show you around."
The three of them were stunned, not understanding what the young lady meant, but for some reason, they were all quite expectant.
It was evening.
A message came from the front yard that someone from the Bai family had arrived.
Qiao Qingshu changed her clothes and hurried to the front courtyard. She was walking quickly in the covered walkway when she bumped into a young man coming from the opposite direction at the corner.
Qiao Qingshu stumbled, but luckily Lin Dong and Wan Qiu were there to support her, preventing her from falling.
His brows furrowed suddenly, and when he looked up, his eyes met those of the young man.
The words he was about to say suddenly stuck in his throat, and he couldn't say them.
The person in front of her was Xiao Zhijie, her brother-in-law from her previous life. He was three years younger than Qiao Qingshu and was only fourteen years old this year.
This person was also Mr. Ye's only closed-door disciple, and he moved around the Qiao residence because he helped with the religious ceremonies.
Qiao Qingshu didn't intend to argue with a mere boy who would later die on the battlefield; she simply planned to walk away.
But then a mocking voice came from behind.
"Good sister-in-law, why are you running away after hitting someone?"
The fact that Qiao Qingshu and Xiao Chengyan were betrothed since birth was already widely known in the capital, and Xiao Zhijie was certainly aware of it. Now, he was deliberately calling her "sister-in-law" to tease her.
When her brother-in-law was silent, he had a gloomy and calm air about him. In her previous life, he had never taken the initiative to talk to her. How come he dared to make such an inappropriate joke with her in this life?
A surge of anger rose in her chest. Qiao Qingshu never wanted to have anything to do with Xiao Chengyan again in this lifetime!
Turning to stare at the bright-eyed young man, he rebuked him sternly.
"Who's your sister-in-law! Don't talk nonsense!"
Xiao Zhijie tilted his head, stared at her with a smile, and raised an eyebrow.
"If my brother knew how shrewish you were, would he still want you?"
Qiao Qingshu gritted her teeth, wishing she could tear the boy's mouth apart, but this wasn't the time to argue. She simply pointed at the boy from a distance, narrowing her eyes and threateningly saying,
"You'd better be careful. I'll have to ask your master how he taught you to behave properly."
Xiao Zhijie didn't care at all, spreading his hands with an indifferent expression.
"Go quickly, I'll be waiting for you."
Qiao Qingshu glared at him fiercely, turned around and left, with Lin Dongwanqiu having to jog to keep up.
Qiao Qingshu thought to herself, "I have important business to attend to right now, so I can't bother with you, you little rascal. I'll teach you a lesson after I've ripped off my own roof."
When we entered Fushou Hall, the room was already full of people, and it was quiet with a solemn and serious atmosphere.
Qiao Qingshu looked around. The old ladies of the Qiao family and the Bai family were sitting on the kang (a heated brick bed) by the window, with her third uncle and aunt standing on the left and her father, Qiao Jizhou, standing on the right.
Sitting in the very center of the armchair was Li Pu, the Grand Eunuch whom Qiao Qingshu had been eagerly awaiting, and a favorite of the current emperor.
Li Pu was in his forties, with a square face and crane-like eyes. His complexion was fair and his gaze was deep. He wore a red flying fish robe with a black peacock fur cloak over it. On his thumb was a blood jade thumb ring. He was looking down and fiddling with a string of small leaf prayer beads. He sat quietly, but he had a strong and terrifying aura.
With eunuchs now in power and Li Pu enjoying the emperor's favor, he controls the transfer of court officials. With just a word from him, an official's fate can be decided, whether he is promoted or demoted.
The entire room held its breath in silence, everyone carefully watching Li Pu's every move.
Old Madam Qiao was visibly excited and nervous. Li Pu was not someone that ordinary people could see. The Qiao family could not have such a great Buddha as him even if they had accumulated eight generations of good fortune!
A blush crept across her face as Old Madam Qiao gave her instructions, both awkward and solicitous.
"Hurry up and serve tea to Lord Li."
She wasn't sure why Li Pu had come, but being eager was always a good idea.
The entire set of seven-colored glass tea set, which had been kept hidden away in the storeroom, was taken out, and the finest purple bamboo shoot tea was also served on the table. The Qiao family's obsequious attitude was impeccable.
Qiao Jizhou was also extremely nervous. In official circles, he had thought of currying favor with this high-ranking and powerful eunuch, Li Pu, but Li Pu's status was too high, and he couldn't even get a chance to show his face.
Li Pu was someone he couldn't reach even if he looked up and stood on tiptoe.
Now that Li Pu has personally come to visit, it's as if his ancestors' graves are emitting smoke. Qiao Jizhou is so anxious to see such a distinguished person that he doesn't know how to wag his tail. He bows and bends over to personally serve Li Pu tea and water. His back has not straightened since Li Pu entered the door.
A pair of slender, fair hands covered the teacup, and Li Pu waved his hand dismissively.
"No rush to drink tea."
Li Pu slowly raised his eyes, which had been slightly lowered, and scanned the people in the room. His cold eyes lingered briefly on Qiao Qingshu's face.
He waved to Qiao Qingshu and said,
"You are Bai's daughter? Your features are so similar. Come here and let me take a look."
