Chapter 10: The Prelude to the Great Battle
Chapter 10: The Prelude to the Great Battle
"Quickly! Everyone, to your positions!"
The Black Widows, who were still enjoying their feast, instantly displayed the combat skills of top-notch agents.
Just moments ago, these girls exuded elegance and grace, as if they were about to embark on a trip. In an instant, they transformed into fully equipped black bodysuits, their figures accentuated by voluptuous curves. They truly deserved the title of "Black Widow"!
"The enemy may have special superpowers; we need to devise effective tactics!"
John Walker immediately issued a warning upon thinking of the terrifying creature he was facing.
After all, the experience of fighting that terrifying guy was still fresh in their minds. If the other party chased after them, this fortress would not be able to withstand it at all.
During the party, he described to everyone the terrifying enemy he had encountered.
The Iron Lady didn't believe it at first, but she was completely convinced after meeting Icarus, this living "superman".
A guy who can chase a bunch of weird superheroes around in hiding can't possibly be a simple enemy.
The already shrewd and strong Iron Lady immediately decided to follow John's advice.
With Hanlu's support, John took over command of the battle: "Icarus, you are the strongest among us, and you can fly. I hope you can defend the skies."
"Don't worry, the sky is mine." Although Icarus disliked being commanded, seeing so many humans still in the fortress ignited a glimmer of hope in his heart.
With so many survivors in just one outpost, if we include all of humanity worldwide, the plan could still be implemented even if we wait a few hundred or a thousand years.
Therefore, he chose to temporarily comply with the arrangements.
Upon receiving the order, he flew directly through the dark corridor into the sky, his rapid movement kicking up a cloud of dust. The red guard choked and repeatedly brushed the dust off his clothes, saying, "This guy is so rude."
John shook his head helplessly; he had ultimately lost the arm-wrestling match.
Even though he almost overwhelmed his opponent at the beginning, Icarus's superhuman endurance terrified him.
He felt as if he were facing not a living being, but a machine with an inexhaustible source of power, which he simply couldn't sustain.
Fortunately, he was never alone.
Hanlu volunteered: "Leave the rooftop to me. My mental powers can better assist the Black Widows in maintaining long-range firepower, and can also protect them when necessary."
The Iron Lady cast a grateful glance at her.
These Black Widows, whom she had personally trained and brought here to survive, were her last concern, and she had always poured her deepest emotions into them.
Unfortunately, in this era of warring gods, it's impossible to get by without superpowers.
They've kept their base hidden all this time, never causing trouble, otherwise they would have had a hard time surviving.
"Okay, Hanlu, please guard the rooftop. Katie, you stay with him."
"Kamara! Your abilities are suited to confined spaces. Guard the passage! If any zombies break in, don't hesitate, crush them!"
Kamala heard her name called and excitedly stood up, giving a proper salute.
Although it wasn't considered standard by John, a professional soldier, he still returned a proper military salute.
"Blade, I'd like you and Matt to stay with Kamala and protect her. She's still too young."
"rest assured."
"no problem."
Task assignments among men are simple and straightforward; giving them a goal is enough.
John looked at the Red Guards, who were already itching to get going: "Stand here and protect the Iron Lady and Lily—they are the core of the entire tactic."
"Huh? I can help! I'm a super soldier too!" The red guard was still spinning around in place, trying to prove how strong he was.
John, however, felt somewhat helpless. Ever since he had witnessed Icarus slap him down, he had lost much of his awe for this super soldier who was on par with Captain America.
"As a man, I would prefer you to stand by your wife's side."
Upon hearing this, the Red Guard looked thoughtfully at his wife, but she simply turned her head away.
"Don't worry, no problem."
"And what about you?" Hanlu asked curiously.
"Me?" John smiled as he accepted the red shield, which had been modified by Soviet technology. The five-pointed star on the shield was particularly eye-catching, and the white and red rings gave him a strange sense of familiarity.
"I'll guard the gate and never let a single 'dead man' in!"
"good!"
The group quickly proceeded to their designated location. After greeting several seemingly friendly non-combatants, Hanlu and Katie were already in position on the rooftop.
In the upper passage, Daredevil, Moon Knight, and Kamala each guarded one passage to ensure absolute safety. The display screen in the middle of the corridor allowed them to clearly see the hordes of zombies swarming in from the outside.
Inside the security room, Lily, the newly appointed head of technology, was helping the Iron Lady familiarize herself with the operating procedures. In her opinion, these complex hand gestures were too cumbersome: "Can't we just use voice input?"
"Uh... I didn't expect that."
The Iron Lady felt a little embarrassed when she met the little girl's questioning gaze.
Who would have thought that little girls these days are so amazing?
Just getting the computer to send signals to control the device had already racked her brains, but she never expected that the other party would just have a flash of inspiration and directly give her a system iteration update.
"Hahaha! Well done!"
John laughed as he heard the booming voice coming through the communicator.
He did make the safest arrangements, but he also had some selfish motives.
He always tried his best to protect the three girls who had followed him, so he arranged for each of them to be accompanied by a mature and reliable bodyguard.
As Icarus leaped high into the air, his eyes gleamed with golden light; his extraordinary vision made night as bright as day in his eyes: "They've arrived!"
An endless horde of zombies began to charge, their numbers several times greater than their own, like a giant black net, threatening to completely engulf this hidden outpost.
Icarus in the sky launched the first attack, his laser beams sweeping the ground like crazy—more like inanimate objects than living things.
But he alone was no match for such an astonishing zombie charge.
"Haha, it's my turn! To survive, for the sake of the world, I must hold this place and send these living dead back to the hell they belong to!"
The Red Guard's roar was shorter than in the original, simply because the Iron Lady was watching him, and she didn't want to embarrass herself any further.
The Red Guard slammed his fist into the red button in front of him, and in an instant, all the landmines that had been planted around the base exploded, like a string of fireworks bursting into bloom, illuminating the dark night as if it were daytime!
The spectacular sight of the zombie horde charging forward, the guards holding long spears and standing ready like a wall...
Until the last firework faded, the last round object rolled twice on the ground and stopped moving.
"Yay! We won!"
"No, this is just the beginning." Hanlu sensed a target rapidly approaching within her mental range—that speed, that energy frequency!
Realizing whose cold dew had arrived, they felt as if they had fallen into an ice cave.
As expected, it happened.
