Chapter 18 The Heiress Who Was Rejected from the Engagement
Chapter 18 The Heiress Who Was Rejected from the Engagement
He was dying.
When Gao Qianning saw the elderly man on his deathbed, she had only one thought in her mind.
He was so thin it looked like skin glued to a skull, his grayish-brown skin covered with darker age spots, an oxygen mask covering half his face, and an IV drip silently falling from his head.
If it weren't for the slight rise and fall of his chest, Gao Qianning would have truly thought that there was a dead person lying on the hospital bed.
Would you give money to someone like that?
Suddenly, the person on the hospital bed opened their eyes.
When her cloudy, yellowish eyes stared at Gao Qianning, goosebumps rose all over her body.
The old man stared at her expressionlessly for a moment before gesturing to the person next to him to remove his oxygen mask and set up the hospital bed.
"Someone has already told you what to do." His voice was muffled and cold, like the cry of a night owl.
Gao Qianning took a few deep breaths, avoiding his overly sharp gaze, and said in a low voice, "Send the money first."
The promise of an old man who might not live to see tomorrow is unreliable, and she will never believe anyone's promises again.
To Gao Qianning's surprise, the old man, who was like a dying dog, was surprisingly generous and agreed to her somewhat unreasonable request without any hesitation.
The middle-aged man next to him made a phone call, and within moments, Gao Qianning's offshore shell company received a large sum of cash.
The minimum deposit requirement that she had prepared was not used. While listening to the finance department's report, Gao Qianning almost had a moment of wanting to take the money and run away.
But the old man clearly wouldn't give her that chance. He said to the middle-aged man, "Keep an eye on her until she finishes everything."
As Gao Qianning felt displeased, she heard the old man, who was on his last breath, say, "If she dares to run, kill her."
The middle-aged man glanced at Gao Qianning, who was horrified, and agreed without any hesitation.
"Cough cough..." In just a short while, the old man had exhausted all his strength and began to cough weakly.
The middle-aged man hurriedly tried to put an oxygen mask on him, but the man's large, eagle-claw-like hand gripped his wrist tightly.
"Hurry, I can't wait to see him abandoned again." After saying this, he suddenly lost all his strength and fell into a coma.
In an instant, chaos erupted in the ward. As Gao Qianning was led away from the sanatorium by the middle-aged man, she couldn't help but look back.
"What is your relationship with Zhou Ziheng?" Knowing she shouldn't ask, she couldn't help but ask when she saw the deep-seated hatred on the old man who was about to enter his coffin.
The middle-aged man glanced at Gao Qianning blankly and said in a flat tone, "That is the old man's only descendant."
In an instant, Gao Qianning felt a chill run through her from head to toe.
……
"What are you laughing at?" Ling Yi put a document aside and looked up at Zhou Ziheng, who was laughing for no reason.
“I found something funny.” Zhou Ziheng’s fingertips brushed over the photos of Gao Qianning entering and leaving the old man’s nursing home, and his eyes crinkled with laughter: “It’s a good thing.”
Isn't it a good thing that annoying people can be taken away in one fell swoop?
Zhou Ziheng gave the old man a chance: as long as he stayed abroad peacefully for the rest of his life and never came back, he could enjoy the right to die a natural death.
But the old man was oblivious and insisted on reappearing in his world, bringing with him those disgusting things to disgust him as well.
A warm hand suddenly touched Zhou Ziheng's face and rubbed it vigorously.
As his handsome face was kneaded into a comical shape, the dark emotions surging in Zhou Ziheng's heart were unconsciously kneaded away.
He pulled the mischievous woman who was teasing him into his arms, gently rubbing her face with his temple: "Still going to cause trouble? Still going to cause trouble?"
Ling Yi stubbornly pushed him away, and in doing so, she pulled off her tie and tied a loose knot around his wrist.
"You've been kidnapped. Don't move until I give you permission."
She was busy giving Qi Qingran a little shock, so she didn't have time to comfort him about his sudden dark mood and face his insatiable intimacy.
So, just stay put.
The unruly hound seemed to have truly been restrained by a small tie. Zhou Ziheng obediently placed his hands on the table, letting Ling Yi's warmth leave his embrace, and only looked at her with a deep gaze: "May I ask when Miss Robber is going to release me?"
"Mwah mwah mwah."
Three perfunctory kisses landed on his eyes and mouth, and Ling Yi announced, "Now your mouth and eyes are sealed too, you are not allowed to speak or look at me!"
After speaking, he buried himself in a large amount of data.
Zhou Ziheng, who had been placed aside, sighed heavily. He looked wistfully at the bright blue sky outside the window, hoping that Ms. Ling would spare him a glance sometime.
Unfortunately, Ms. Ling was so engrossed in her career that she had no interest in paying attention to him.
until……
"Yi-yi, working overtime again today?" Madam Ling's voice came as she pushed open the door to Feng Rui's office.
The next moment, she stopped in her tracks, looked at Zhou Ziheng in disbelief, then at her daughter in disbelief, and suddenly turned around: "Ling Deming, you come here!"
President Ling was called in completely bewildered, and then froze on the spot.
Belatedly realizing that her parents' reaction was inappropriate, Ling Yi suddenly turned her head and looked at Zhou Ziheng.
The man sat upright about a meter away from her, dressed in a suit and tie, with his shirt buttoned up to the top of the collar, the collar only a finger's width away from his sharp Adam's apple—clothing that wouldn't be out of place even if he went to a meeting right away.
The only drawback was that his hands were tied with a tie and were obediently placed on the table, making him look like a pushover that didn't match his aura.
Ling Yi could barely breathe: "Why do you still look like this?"
She tied it quite loosely; you could easily untie it by pulling your wrist out!
Zhou Ziheng obediently lowered his eyes and remained silent.
His mouth was still sealed shut, so he dared not look at Ling Yi or speak.
Under her parents' increasingly strange gazes, Ling Yi hurriedly untied Zhou Ziheng and forced a laugh, saying, "We were just joking around."
Zhou Ziheng silently hid behind Ling Yi, seemingly agreeing with her, but his hand gently tugged at the hem of her clothes, making him look quite endearing.
President Ling was gasping for breath from the toothache. How could a man and a woman be playing around like this?
"Yi Yi..." He only managed to say those three words before running out of things to say next.
Ling Yi nudged Zhou Ziheng with her elbow, signaling him to come to her rescue.
Zhou Ziheng swayed like a weak little white flower before slowly taking out his phone and typing: "Yi Yi sealed my mouth and eyes. I dare not look at Yi Yi, nor dare I speak."
Ling Yi: "..."
She smiled as she looked at the wicked grin in Zhou Ziheng's eyes, confirming that this guy wanted to drive her crazy so she could find someone new.
A seal, is it?
She suddenly cupped the man's face in her hands and planted three kisses on his cheeks, then said nonchalantly, "Yes, we're together now."
"It's perfectly normal for young couples to play around with romance!"
