Chapter 109 New Suspects Arrive, Misfortune Returns
Chapter 109 New Suspects Arrive, Misfortune Returns
Dai Yao had just crawled out of the abyss of being labeled a "traitor and accomplice" and hadn't even had a chance to breathe in any fresh air when the Blood Demon Elder's gloomy voice boomed like thunder: "Venerable Dai, it seems you're hiding something from me." He held a broken jade slip in his hand, and the demonic energy remaining on the jade slip was extremely similar to the one used by Shadow Killer in collusion with the Shadow Serpent.
Dai Yao was secretly alarmed, thinking: "No way, is this another problem? I just cleared my name, and now I'm being slandered again?" However, she remained outwardly calm, merely raising an eyebrow and feigning nonchalance, saying, "Elder, what makes you say that? Do you think I'm the one who should take the blame?"
The Blood Demon Elder's eyes were sharp as knives: "The demonic energy on this jade slip is extremely similar to that used by Shadow Killer before, and..." He paused, staring intently at Dai Yao, "...the aura on this jade slip also seems to have a slight connection with the remnants on your body."
The surrounding Demon Palace disciples erupted into a frenzy, whispering amongst themselves, their gazes towards Dai Yao once more filled with suspicion and hostility. That oppressive feeling, that suffocating atmosphere, had returned.
Dai Yao felt as if she were trapped in a horror movie on a loop, unable to escape the vicious cycle of being wrongly accused. "This is completely fabricated!" Dai Yao mentally screamed, but outwardly she tried to remain calm.
She took a deep breath, trying to make herself look like an innocent person who had been wronged, rather than a "villain" about to be nailed to the pillar of shame. She secretly mobilized her ability to sense the flow of qi, carefully examining the area around the shattered jade slip.
Sure enough, the flow of this fortune was very unnatural, as if it had been deliberately manipulated. This framing method was too clumsy. Dai Yao sneered inwardly. It seemed that someone was even more eager to cause trouble than she was.
Just then, a gentle voice rang in her ear: "Yao Yao, don't be afraid." Dai Yao turned her head and saw the mysterious person who had been silently protecting her. The mysterious person gave her a firm look.
Dai Yao felt a little relieved and tightened her grip on the mysterious person's hand. Just as she was about to speak, she saw Zi Ling walk out from the crowd, looking at her with a complicated expression.
“Dai Yao…” Zi Ling’s gaze was like a poisoned ice pick, piercing straight at Dai Yao. “You… do you have anything else to explain?” Her voice trembled, carrying a trace of disbelief and pain.
Previously, Dai Yao had been cleared of suspicion, and the two had reconciled. Zi Ling even felt guilty about her previous suspicions. But now, this shattered jade slip, like a heavy hammer, has once again shattered the trust that the two had painstakingly built up.
"Explain? What do I have to explain? Explain how I was framed?" Dai Yao felt more wronged than Dou E. This Demon Palace was like a large-scale ancient costume version of Werewolf, and she was always the werewolf who was voted out.
"Ziling, we've known each other for a while now. Don't you know what kind of person I am? Time and time again, you doubt me so easily. What kind of friendship is this?"
“But… the aura on this jade slip…” Zi Ling’s voice trailed off, her eyes filled with struggle. She didn’t want to believe that Dai Yao was an accomplice to the traitor, but the evidence before her forced her to have doubts.
"Aura? Hmph, these days even auras can be faked!" Dai Yao sneered. "Instead of getting hung up on this nonexistent 'aura,' we should think about who delivered this thing to Elder Blood Demon!"
Dai Yao decided to take the initiative; she refused to believe she couldn't get rid of this scapegoat!
She grabbed Lingfeng, who was still trembling to the side, and said, "Come on, let's investigate the case!"
Lingfeng was on the verge of tears, his inner monologue: Investigating a case? This isn't investigating a case, it's practically suicide!
But under Dai Yao's authority, he obediently followed her and began this "death-sending" journey.
After disguising themselves, Dai Yao and Ling Feng secretly followed the disciple who had provided the jade slip to the Blood Demon Elder. The man acted furtively and eventually turned into an abandoned palace.
This palace is gloomy and terrifying, filled with demonic energy; it's clearly not a good place.
"Holy crap! Could this be a forbidden area of the Demon Palace?" Lingfeng's voice trembled, and his legs began to shake.
Dai Yao gave him a "what are you chickening for?" look, then a sly smile appeared on her lips: "Forbidden area? The more forbidden the area, the more interesting it is!"
Using her perception of the flow of Qi, Dai Yao easily evaded the guards and sneaked into the depths of the palace, accompanied by a shivering spiritual wind.
Pushing open the heavy stone door, a stench of decay hit her. Dai Yao felt as if something had entered her nostrils, making her very uncomfortable. She lit a tinderbox, which hissed softly as it burned, and the dim yellow light gradually illuminated the scene before her.
“This…this is…” Lingfeng’s voice stopped abruptly.
Dai Yao's gaze fell on the rows of shelves on the wall, on which were placed scrolls of yellowed paper. Holding a tinderbox, Dai Yao used the dim light to see what was on the shelves—scrolls of yellowed paper, densely covered with ancient characters.
"Holy crap! Could it be a long-lost demonic martial arts manual?" Lingfeng's eyes widened, his voice distorted with excitement.
Dai Yao rolled her eyes at him: "What are you thinking? Even if it's a demonic martial arts manual, it has to be one you can practice!" She casually pulled out a scroll, unfolded it, and found that it didn't contain any demonic martial arts manual, but rather some strange records—dates, locations, people, events...
“This…this seems to be some kind of log?” Dai Yao murmured to herself.
She quickly scanned the scroll's contents, growing increasingly alarmed with each reading. These records seemed to conceal a massive conspiracy, a conspiracy powerful enough to overthrow the entire Demon Palace!
Dai Yao felt like she had grasped a lifeline; perhaps this was the key to clearing her name!
Just as she was about to delve deeper into the study, a series of hurried footsteps approached, followed by a group of demon palace guards clad in black armor bursting through the door!
"Who goes there?!" the lead guard shouted sternly.
"Oh no! We've been exposed!" Lingfeng was terrified and hid behind Dai Yao. Dai Yao heard the guard's shout and felt her eardrums buzzing.
Dai Yao stuffed the scroll into her bosom, took a deep breath, and tried to remain calm: "Brothers, we're just... lost."
"Lost? Lost in the forbidden area?" The guards obviously didn't believe it and drew their weapons, surrounding Dai Yao and Ling Feng.
"Run!" Dai Yao shouted, grabbing Ling Feng and rushing outside.
The guards swarmed forward, and Dai Yao and Ling Feng stood back to back, ready to face the attack.
"Lingfeng, cover me!" Dai Yao instructed.
“Cover, cover you? I… all I can do is run away!” Lingfeng’s voice trembled.
"Stop talking nonsense! Do as I say if you don't want to die!" Dai Yao kicked away a guard who rushed at her. She felt her foot hit the guard's hard armor and felt a slight pain. Then, she used the surrounding environment to maneuver around the guards.
Although Lingfeng was timid, he had no choice but to join the battle under Dai Yao's coercion and enticement. Although he had no offensive power, he was agile and darted among the guards, disrupting their formation, which did have some effect.
Dai Yao, relying on her perception of the flow of Qi, concentrated it at her fingertips. With each strike, her fingertips seemed to flash with light, precisely piercing the guards' pressure points (weak points). The guards felt only a sharp pain, almost dropping their weapons. Her movements were as swift as lightning, weaving freely between the guards' attacks. Each counterattack carried immense power, making the guards' attacks seem like hitting cotton, unable to exert their strength.
"This kid's skills... don't seem like those of an ordinary disciple..." The surrounding guards began to whisper among themselves, their eyes filled with surprise as they looked at Dai Yao.
Just as Dai Yao and Ling Feng were about to be overwhelmed by the guards' attacks, a figure suddenly appeared at the palace gate...
"Stop!" The voice was deep and powerful, carrying an unquestionable authority.
The guards stopped what they were doing upon hearing the sound and turned to look at the newcomer.
Dai Yao followed everyone's gaze and saw a figure wearing a black cloak, whose face was obscured, standing at the door, surrounded by an unfathomable aura.
"Holy crap! What's going on? Who's this big shot?" Lingfeng muttered to himself, hiding behind Dai Yao.
The mysterious man ignored the guards around him and walked straight to Dai Yao. He reached out a hand and gently pulled Dai Yao behind him.
"Are you alright?" A deep voice came from under the cloak, carrying a hint of barely perceptible concern.
Dai Yao paused for a moment, then subconsciously shook her head.
"It's nothing... Thank you for saving me, senior." Although she didn't know who this person was, the familiar voice and tone made her feel inexplicably at ease.
"Heh, who dares to touch my men?" The mysterious man chuckled, his tone carrying a hint of domineering arrogance.
Upon hearing this, the surrounding guards all gasped in shock.
"Who...who is this kid? How dare he be so arrogant in the Demon Palace..."
The Blood Demon Elder rushed over upon hearing the news, and upon seeing the scene before him, his brows furrowed.
"What's going on? Who's making a scene here?"
The guards hurriedly reported the situation to Elder Blood Demon, embellishing the story of Dai Yao and Ling Feng trespassing into the forbidden area.
After listening, Elder Blood Demon's gaze fell on Dai Yao, a hint of suspicion flashing in his eyes.
"Dai Yao, is there anything else you want to say?"
Just as Dai Yao was about to explain, she was interrupted by the mysterious person.
"Elder, this matter has nothing to do with her; I brought her here."
"You?" The Blood Demon Elder looked the mysterious man up and down, his eyes filled with vigilance.
"Who are you? Why are you trespassing on this forbidden area?"
The mysterious man did not answer, but simply said, "Elder, there are some things you'd better not know." After saying that, he pulled Dai Yao and turned to leave, leaving behind a group of guards looking at each other in bewilderment and the Blood Demon Elder with a gloomy expression.
"Wait!" The Blood Demon Elder was about to stop her when he saw Zi Ling walk out from the crowd.
“Elder, there may be more to this than meets the eye…” Zi Ling walked to the Blood Demon Elder’s side and whispered a few words.
Upon hearing this, Elder Blood Demon's expression turned even more grim.
"Could it really be him?" He looked up in the direction the mysterious man had left, a complex expression flashing in his eyes.
"Let's go! We'll follow them!"
Meanwhile, Dai Yao had already been taken by the mysterious person to a secluded courtyard.
"Who exactly are you?" Dai Yao finally couldn't help but ask.
The mysterious man removed his cloak, revealing an incomparably handsome face.
He looked at Dai Yao, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Yaoyao, it's been a long time..." He paused, his tone suddenly becoming low.
"This time, I won't let you leave again..."
