Chapter 274 The Peak Master's Secret, The Danger of Demonic Qi
Chapter 274 The Peak Master's Secret, The Danger of Demonic Qi
Sitting cross-legged in his cave, the peak master had a vague premonition that Chu Lengyu's arrival might bring about a significant turning point for Wushan.
But he dared not show himself to her rashly.
Just then, a low, hoarse voice suddenly rang out from inside the cave: "What are you still persisting in? No one in this world can stop me now, so why bother with this futile struggle?"
The peak master opened his eyes and looked down. His shadow had been distorted into another form. The figure of the shadow was blurry, but it exuded a chilling aura that made people's hearts tremble.
The shadowy figure chuckled and said, "Submit to me, and I will give you a new life."
The peak master snorted coldly and said, "Demon, don't even think about tempting me! I have lived a life of integrity and uprightness, how could I associate with a heretic like you!"
The dark figure didn't seem angry at all; instead, it laughed even more arrogantly: "Haha, what a fine example of uprightness!"
"Do you think you can suppress this demonic energy for long with your meager cultivation? Let me tell you, the demonic energy has already become one with you, like a maggot clinging to your bone, impossible to sever."
"The more you resist, the stronger it becomes, until it completely devours you. By then, it will be too late for you to submit."
The peak master felt a chill run down his spine.
He knew that what the demon said was true; the demonic energy within his body was indeed quietly growing. He had been fighting against the demonic energy within him, but he could never completely expel it. Instead, he only fueled the demon's arrogance.
Recalling a few months ago, when the demonic energy first entangled him, it was as fine as a hair and almost imperceptible.
But now, it has grown so powerful that it has shocked the peak master.
He gazed at his blurry shadow, his heart filled with mixed emotions: anger at the demonic energy that entangled him, and helplessness at his inability to reverse the situation.
However, even so, he was unwilling to succumb to this evil power. Otherwise, not only would he be plunged into an abyss of no return, but innocent lives in Wushan and the entire world would also suffer annihilation because of him.
This heavy sense of responsibility weighed on his heart like a boulder, making it impossible for him to back down.
A flicker of struggle crossed the peak master's eyes, but he quickly hardened his resolve: "Demon, you need not say more. Even if I die, I will never fall into the demonic path!"
Seeing this, the dark figure stopped wasting words and simply let out a cold laugh, as chilling as ice, making one's heart tremble.
If I hadn't been severely injured and extremely weak, I would have devoured this frail human long ago.
He suddenly lunged forward and instantly took control of the body.
The peak master felt a powerful force surge into his body, squeezing his consciousness into a tiny corner. He tried his best to regain control, but it was like an ant trying to shake a tree. He could only give up helplessly and stare intently at the demon's next move.
The Demon Lord flicked his wrist, retrieving the spirit stone from the void, and murmured, "Cultivator, Grand Preceptor of the Great Xia Dynasty..."
In the brief moment since he left, he had already learned the latest news about the cultivators in this world from his demonic followers.
He was quite interested in the name "Chu Lengyu".
He narrowed his eyes slightly, recalling how they had traveled thousands of miles to hunt down the young man from the Jiu clan who possessed a rare treasure, attempting to kill him and steal his treasure.
However, when that kid was at his wit's end, he was caught in a spatial turbulence. It's hard to say whether it was a stroke of luck or misfortune.
The Demon Lord was closest at the time, and upon seeing this, he was filled with rage and chased after them without hesitation.
However, the danger of the spatial turbulence far exceeded his imagination!
His physical body was completely destroyed, his magical artifacts were reduced to dust one by one, and even his nascent soul suffered unprecedented damage, being worn down by the spatial storm. Only a tiny bit of his natal demonic essence escaped, allowing him to barely survive.
In that extremely critical situation, he discovered a world nearby. Like a drowning man grasping at a straw, he didn't care about distinguishing the details and immediately plunged into it without hesitation.
They live here, resting and recuperating.
However, this world was unfamiliar and full of unknowns to him. Several months passed quickly, and he only recovered a little of his strength. He did not dare to make any rash moves and rarely even released his divine sense.
He adopted the alias "Demon Lord," secretly plotting and quietly developing demonic followers and organizing rituals.
Through that altar, he could send messages and make contact with friends far away.
He had personally witnessed how that boy from the Jiu clan miraculously survived the spatial turbulence thanks to a treasure.
This convinced the Demon Lord that the boy was very likely like himself, having escaped into this world and was hiding in some corner, quietly recuperating and waiting for a chance to rise again.
The Demon Lord hoped that the altar would work, allowing him to contact his friends and quickly arrive in this world based on the coordinates.
By then, he will not only be able to restore his strength, but also take possession of the Jiu Clan's treasures, and freely explore this mysterious world, uncovering its secrets one by one.
A glint of greed flashed in the Demon Lord's eyes.
"No rush, that day will come soon."

Note:
The setting of the demon realm in this book is based on the "Twelve Divine Beasts" and "Eleven Ghost Plagues", which are from Sima Biao's "Continuation of the Book of Han: Treatise on Rites".
Due to a lack of reference materials, this is entirely my own original work (made up), please do not take it seriously.

Just a little digression to fill in the blanks.
Actually, the initial plot of the fourth volume of Fog Hill was roughly as follows:
The book begins with the ceremony of the old man Meilin accepting his apprentices.
Amidst the gathering of heroes and the appearance of various supporting characters, everyone watches and bets to see who will ultimately emerge victorious and become a trusted disciple.
Chu Lengyu bet on the unremarkable Yi Xiaoqi. Others, not recognizing her, mocked her, expressing their skepticism.
The result was naturally a series of reversals, ultimately leading to victory.
Later, the Bai family was too confident and agreed to let Chu Lengyu give it a try, and as a result, she actually managed to subdue the Ice Lotus.
The Bai family immediately regretted it, and then brought up the story of the Bai family patriarch.
In the original setting, the patriarch of the Bai family was the boss of Wushan, a person who was corrupted by demonic energy.
……
However, in the official serialization, I changed my approach from the very beginning, choosing the three major scenic spots as the starting point: "Qingni Xiaojian Pass, Red Leaves on the Pengjiang River Bank, and White Grass Connecting to the Clouds".
First, Yi Xiaoqi was introduced as the guide to the misty mountain, and then it was written that Chu Lengyu had already climbed the stone steps, so how could he not take the ice lotus on the mountain peak?
Having obtained the Ice Lotus, the Bai family's storyline needed a new plot, so a new plan was devised, which led to the arrangement of the underground cave.
Merlin knew her beforehand, so the bet plot became somewhat untenable. Bamboo Elder died early, and the faction relationships also needed to be revised. Thus, the initial plot was overturned and completely rewritten.
To improve the flow of the plot, Madam Lan's character was drastically altered.
The patriarch of the Bai family has gone from being the final boss to a "food delivery boss".
The Peak Master took over his demonic transformation storyline and modified it according to the character settings and plot needs, designing spirit stones as clues and props.
The outline I envision and the main text I write are always two different things (bitter smile).
Now that I'm almost at the part about demons, I'm becoming more and more resistant to writing it... because I'm afraid I won't do it well.
However, getting it done is more important than perfecting it!
Come on!
