Chapter 338 Strange Things
Chapter 338 Strange Things
"What on earth is this thing?"
Lingye stared wide-eyed at the scene before her, her face full of suspicion, and the eeriness in her heart grew stronger.
His gaze followed the first figure he touched, moving slowly, only to be surprised to find that there were several more figures behind that first one!
These figures are exactly the same as the first one, so abstract, as if they were depicted using some mysterious technique.
However, they vary in size, some tall and imposing, others small and delicate. Even more surprisingly, upon closer inspection, one can even discern their sex and age.
Ling Ye's heart pounded faster and faster. He couldn't help but wonder if these figures were carved on, or...
However, apart from these strange, recessed figures, there was nothing else in the corridor, not even the traps he had expected.
Ling Ye took a deep breath, steadied himself, and decided to continue exploring. He carefully made his way down the corridor, each step taken with extreme caution.
Finally, he reached the end of the corridor.
However, when he stood at the end, his hope was instantly shattered. It turned out to be a dead end.
Lingye reluctantly knocked on the wall at the end of the corridor, making a crisp sound, but the sound was no different from that of the wall next to her.
"This really is a dead end..." Lingye muttered to herself, her heart filled with doubt and disappointment.
"Something's not right."
Lingye muttered to herself, as if she had suddenly realized something important.
His brows furrowed tightly, and his steps quickened as he hurried back to the wall where he had first spotted the figure.
Standing by the wall, Lingye raised her glow stick and focused the light on the first figure.
He examined the figure closely, not missing a single detail. Then, he moved the glow stick's light to the figure next to him and observed it carefully as well.
After comparison, Lingye discovered that only the eyes and mouth of the first figure were recessed, while the other figures were just a flat surface.
Without much thought, Ling Ye reached out and carefully touched the three sunken pits.
When his finger touched the hole representing his right eye, he felt as if there was a small sphere inside.
Ling Ye's heart stirred. He gently touched the sphere and found that it was somewhat like the stone ball in the lion's mouth. It could rotate, but he couldn't take it out.
He tried rolling the ball around a few times, but there was no other reaction except for the ball's own rotation.
"There must be other methods, otherwise they wouldn't have deliberately placed a ball in such a hidden place."
Lingye became increasingly convinced that there was definitely something wrong here, and as she spoke, she began to roll the small ball aimlessly once more.
Perhaps because she was in too much of a hurry, Lingye unconsciously injected some energy into the sphere.
Then, when he turned to a certain angle, the floor beneath Lingye's feet suddenly disappeared, and he fell straight down.
"No way, what the hell?!" Ling Ye suddenly felt his body lose its balance, as if he were being pulled down by a huge force. His heart jumped into his throat, and he instinctively screamed. However, before he could finish speaking, he quickly shut his mouth as if someone had grabbed his throat.
It turned out that the drop wasn't very high; Lingye fell into the water almost instantly. To be precise, it was water, since under the dim light of the eerie green glow stick, Lingye couldn't tell whether it was water or something else.
"Cough cough cough..." Ling Ye choked on a mouthful of water unexpectedly. The water had a faint fishy smell and made his throat sting. However, he quickly came to his senses, immediately closed his mouth, and began to swim rapidly using his hands and feet.
Using the light from the glow sticks, Lingye groped his way forward in the darkness. Fortunately, he soon found the nearest shore. The shore appeared somewhat blurry in the eerie green light, but Lingye swam towards it without hesitation.
Finally, Lingye's hand touched the rocks on the shore. He breathed a sigh of relief and used all his strength to climb ashore. Once on flat ground, Lingye finally breathed a sigh of relief and had time to carefully examine this unfamiliar space.
This place seemed like a forgotten corner, filled with an aura of antiquity and decay. Standing in this pool-like spot, Ling Ye couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.
The pool in the middle resembled a bottomless black hole, its water murky and unclear, making it impossible to discern its depth. Perhaps due to the extremely poor water quality, or perhaps because the water was too deep, Ling Ye could not see the bottom of the pool at all.
Around the edge of the pool, there was a narrow, flat area, the only place Lingye could stand. However, the condition of this flat area was not optimistic; it appeared somewhat dilapidated, as if it had been weathered by time and had long lost its original smoothness.
Looking beyond that edge, there was a towering wall covered in thick moss. The moss was damp and slippery to the touch, giving one an extremely uncomfortable feeling, even making one feel nauseous.
Overall, the place is like someone had dug a swimming pool out of a basement but didn't install any lighting. The entire space is dark, damp, and makes you feel oppressed and suffocated.
Because the pool was quite wide and it was completely dark on all sides, Lingye couldn't see what was happening on the other side immediately. He hesitated for a moment, then decided to observe the water in the pool first to see if he could find any clues or hints.
"Splash—" "Splash—"
The sudden sound of water seemed particularly jarring in the tranquil environment. Ling Ye's heart tightened, and his crouching body instantly sprang up. His hand reached for his waist with lightning speed and grasped the cold hilt of the knife.
The blade trembled slightly in its sheath, as if sensing its master's tension. Lingye's gaze, sharp as a hawk's, was fixed on the direction from which the sound came, his muscles tense, and he was on high alert.
"Splash—splash—"
The sound of water grew closer, as if something was slowly rising from the bottom. Ling Ye's heart pounded faster and faster; he could even feel his palms sweating slightly.
Finally, a blurry object appeared in Lingye's field of vision. Because the light was so dim, he couldn't make out what it was. Without hesitation, Lingye snapped open another glow stick, swung his arm forcefully, and threw it at the object.
The pink glow stick traced an arc through the air, falling like a shooting star. Its light shone brightly in the darkness. When the glow stick finally landed on the object, Lingye could finally see what it was.
