Chapter 36 New Crisis
Chapter 36 New Crisis
Undercurrent
The pink letter fluttered to the ground, like a rose stained with poison, beautiful yet deadly. Wu Xinyan's face turned pale, and her fingertips trembled slightly. The words were like a venomous snake wrapped around her throat, almost making her breathless.
"Xinyan, what's wrong?" Zhao's best friend noticed that something was wrong with her and asked worriedly.
Wu Xinyan took a deep breath, handed her the letter, and said in a trembling voice: "Look..."
After reading this, Zhao's best friend's face turned grim. "How could this happen? Another threat like this! Did they not investigate the last incident thoroughly? Are they doing it again?"
"I don't know..." Wu Xinyan shook her head helplessly, her heart filled with fear and anxiety. The child was her only hope now, and she would never allow anyone to harm her child!
Luo Yichen rushed over immediately after receiving Wu Xinyan's call. Seeing her pale face and the fear in her eyes, his heart seemed to be tightly grasped by an invisible hand, and he felt distressed.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here." He hugged Wu Xinyan in his arms and whispered comfortingly.
"But..." Wu Xinyan clutched his sleeve tightly, her voice choked with fear, "They said they wanted me to... leave you..."
A cold light flashed in Luo Yichen's eyes, and his tone was firm: "I will not let you leave me, never!"
He turned to look at Zhao's best friend and said in a serious tone, "Don't tell anyone about this. I'll handle it."
Zhao's best friend nodded, looked at Wu Xinyan worriedly, and left silently.
Luo Yichen took Wu Xinyan home, comforted her, and began investigating the anonymous letter. He retrieved the mall's surveillance footage but found no suspicious individuals. The fingerprints on the letter had been deliberately erased, and the clues ended there.
However, Luo Yichen didn't give up. He knew that if the other party dared to attack again, they must have left some clues. He carefully recalled the recent events, and suddenly a thought flashed through his mind: Director Lin!
Director Lin has been holding a grudge against him ever since the last shareholders' meeting. He has been very active recently, trying to win over other shareholders. It is obvious that he is plotting something.
Thinking of this, Luo Yichen's eyes flashed, and he picked up his phone and dialed a number: "Help me find someone..."
Meanwhile, in Director Lin's study, the dim light cast a shadow on his face, making it appear gloomy and terrifying. He listened to the news coming from the other end of the phone, a sneer curling up at the corner of his mouth:
"Luo Yichen, you finally suspect me... But do you think you can stop me like this? Ha, the game has only just begun!" Director Lin hung up the phone, a sinister sneer crossing his face. He'd expected Luo Yichen to start suspecting him, but it also made him even more vigilant. It seemed simple intimidation wouldn't do the trick anymore. More ruthless means were needed to completely destroy Luo Yichen and the woman beside him!
"Luo Yichen, if you want to play, I'll play with you to the end!" Director Lin muttered to himself, a malicious glint in his eyes. He picked up his phone, dialed a mysterious number, and whispered a few instructions in a sinister and vicious tone, like a demon from hell.
Meanwhile, Zhao's best friend returned to her own residence, heavy-hearted. Wu Xinyan's haggard expression and the terrifying anonymous letter lingered in her mind, unable to be shaken off. She knew this incident was far from what it seemed, and there must be a greater conspiracy behind it.
"No, I can't just sit there and do nothing!" Zhao's best friend clenched her fists, her eyes determined. She decided to use her connections to secretly investigate Director Lin's background, hoping to find some clues.
A few days later, Zhao's bestie arranged to meet Wu Xinyan at a cafe. She pushed a file folder in front of Wu Xinyan and said gravely, "Xinyan, I've found out something about Director Lin. You'd better be prepared."
Wu Xinyan took a deep breath and opened the document bag. The information inside was shocking, exposing Director Lin's years of corruption, exclusion of dissidents within the company, and even involvement in some illegal and criminal activities.
"How could this be..." Wu Xinyan's face turned pale as she stared at the information in disbelief, a chill running through her heart. She finally understood that what she and Luo Yichen were facing wasn't just an ordinary enemy, but a vicious and cunning jackal!
"Xinyan, you must be careful!" Zhao's best friend looked at her worriedly. "Since Director Lin dared to do this, he must have something to rely on. You are in a very dangerous situation now. You must protect yourself and the child."
Wu Xinyan nodded, holding Zhao's hand tightly, her eyes full of gratitude: "Thank you, my bestie. I will be careful."
However, what they didn't know was that the shadow of danger was quietly approaching. The next day, Wu Xinyan received an unfamiliar phone call. A cold voice came from the other end of the line: "Ms. Wu, I suggest you go see Dr. Sun. You need to protect yourself well during this period..."
Wu Xinyan gripped her phone, her fingertips cold. Dr. Sun was Luo Yichen's personal physician and one of their most trusted people. The fact that he had specifically asked her to see Dr. Sun, and had emphasized the importance of "protecting herself," was obvious.
"Xinyan, what's wrong?" Luo Yichen asked with concern when he saw that her face looked strange.
Wu Xinyan took a deep breath and told him what the call had said. Luo Yichen's face darkened, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes. "It seems our Director Lin is getting impatient."
"Yi Chen, what should I do?" Wu Xinyan felt uneasy. She knew that she had become Director Lin's target, and the baby in her belly made her even more worried.
Luo Yichen held her in his arms, his tone firm: "Don't be afraid, I will protect you and the child, and won't let anyone hurt you." He gently stroked Wu Xinyan's hair and said softly: "Dr. Sun is a highly skilled doctor and thoughtful. Go to him, he will tell you what to do."
The next day, Wu Xinyan went to Dr. Sun's private clinic as scheduled. Dr. Sun was a man in his fifties, with a kind face but an unusually sharp gaze, as if he could see through everything. He carefully inquired about Wu Xinyan's recent health and the details of the anonymous letter incident. Then, he said earnestly, "Ms. Wu, from now on, you can no longer be careless. Director Lin is ruthless and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals."
"Doctor Sun, what should I do then?" Wu Xinyan asked anxiously.
Doctor Sun pondered for a moment and said, "I will teach you some simple self-defense techniques. Although I can't make you a martial arts master, at least you can protect yourself when you encounter danger."
Over the next few days, Wu Xinyan began learning self-defense techniques from Dr. Sun. She meticulously practiced each move, striving for perfection, knowing that her safety and that of her child depended on it. Meanwhile, Luo Yichen also took action. He secretly mobilized his trusted associates to conduct a covert investigation within the company, gathering more evidence against Director Lin.
"President, this is the information we found." The assistant handed a document to Luo Yichen with a serious tone.
Luo Yichen took the document and flipped through it. It detailed Director Lin's actions over the years. The sheer amount of embezzlement and the despicable methods used were shocking. He closed the file, his eyes cold and sharp, like the calm before a storm. "Very good, organize this information. I'm going to make Director Lin pay for his actions!"
However, neither Luo Yichen nor Wu Xinyan anticipated the storm would arrive sooner and more violently than they had imagined. That evening, Wu Xinyan was strolling in the garden. The setting sun cast a fiery crimson hue across the sky, but it couldn't mask the parched heat. Feeling a little stuffy, she walked along the path deeper into the garden.
Just then, the sky suddenly changed. Dark clouds gathered, a strong wind blew, and raindrops as big as beans poured down. Wu Xinyan was caught off guard and was soaked to the bone. Panicking, she tried to run back, but found the path was flooded with mud and impossible to walk on.
"What should I do..." Wu Xinyan was filled with anxiety. She walked forward with difficulty in the pouring rain, her belly bulging. Every step was extremely difficult...
The fierce wind and torrential rain lashed Wu Xinyan's frail body mercilessly. She held onto a branch by the road with one hand, protecting her belly, and struggled to move. Icy rain streamed down her cheeks, and it was hard to tell if it was rain or tears. The baby inside her belly seemed to sense her fear, kicking restlessly. The waves of pain made Wu Xinyan's vision black out.
"Xinyan!" Luo Yichen's anxious voice came from a distance.
Following the sound, Wu Xinyan saw Luo Yichen holding a large black umbrella, running towards her against the wind and rain. His tall figure stood out in the wind and rain, like a flash of lightning, instantly illuminating Wu Xinyan's despair.
"Yi Chen!" Wu Xinyan's voice was blown away by the strong wind, but she believed that Luo Yi Chen would definitely be able to feel her call.
The next second, Luo Yichen rushed to her, holding her in his arms, using his body to shield her from the wind and rain. "Don't be afraid, I'm here." His voice was low but full of power, as if to tell her that no matter what happened, he would be by her side.
Luo Yichen took off his coat and wrapped it around Wu Xinyan's cold body, holding her tightly in his arms. Feeling his warmth and smelling his familiar scent, Wu Xinyan's heart finally relaxed, and she couldn't hold back her tears any longer.
"Let's go home." Luo Yichen gently wiped the tears from her face, picked her up horizontally, and strode towards the car parked on the side of the road.
The warmth inside the car was like spring, forming a sharp contrast with the stormy world outside. Wu Xinyan snuggled in Luo Yichen's arms, feeling his strong heartbeat, and the uneasiness in her heart gradually dissipated.
"It's okay, everything will be fine." Luo Yichen stroked her long hair, his tone firm and gentle.
Wu Xinyan nodded and buried her head in his chest, feeling the long-lost peace. However, she didn't know that a bigger storm was quietly brewing, and this storm was far more violent and terrifying than the rainstorm before her.
Luo Yichen looked at the weak Wu Xinyan in his arms, his eyes gradually became deep, the knuckles of his fingers holding the steering wheel turned white, and his fingertips tapped the steering wheel lightly, again and again, as if tapping some kind of countdown.
