Chapter 121 The Smiling Owl
Chapter 121 The Smiling Owl
I thought I was finally going to get to the city. I had already taken the direct bus to the city, so what could possibly happen on the way?
But to my utter surprise, trouble actually broke out halfway there. Judging from the current situation, it seems that the two sides are fighting over the road and a brawl has started.
They just burned the car. Damn it, who am I supposed to complain to? Why did you have to fight now of all times?
If you're going to fight, then fight. Why can't you talk things out instead of resorting to violence?
Go ahead and do it, but what do you mean by burning the car? That's a serious crime. How could you be so foolish?
I really wanted to cut open that idiot man in black's head to see what was inside.
Why did they hit so hard? What am I supposed to do?
Thankfully, after the initial panic, someone finally discovered there was a gas station nearby, which was the best thing that could have happened to me.
So I quickly grabbed Dafu and rushed toward the gas station. At least the way to fly was much faster than their detour, right?
Although I sensed danger, I still rushed into the dark forest without hesitation.
Because of the flies, the situation is clearer at night than for people. Although it's not as emotional as it is during the day, one thing is certain: it's still generally clear.
It's much clearer than what a human can see.
Dafu originally didn't want me to come in, but I was in such a hurry that I didn't care anymore. Why would I take the long way when there's a shortcut?
So I rushed in first, and Dafu reluctantly followed me in.
Once I got inside, I realized I was wrong, terribly wrong. How could it be so dark in this forest?
It was almost to the point where you couldn't see anything at all. Before, we were by the highway, so we didn't feel the darkness of the woods.
Now that I'm inside, I realize how dark it is, like a scene from a horror movie.
I was starting to think about going back, but I couldn't lose face in front of Dafu. I was the one who wanted to come in, and now I wanted to leave? That wouldn't make sense, it would be too embarrassing!
I had no choice but to grit my teeth and keep flying inside, hoping that nothing bad would happen.
But as I said before, my mouth is practically blessed with a curse; it's basically always right, never right.
The more I try to avoid something, the more likely I am to encounter it.
I was flying very carefully ahead when Dafu suddenly said from behind, "Yimao Er, look over there!"
Holy crap, that scared me! I thought something was up. What could be so interesting in the middle of the night? Are they having sex in the middle of nowhere?
Although I was very annoyed, I still looked in the direction where Dafu was shouting, and saw two bright, moon-like objects watching us from a distance.
That bright light was my first reaction. After I looked closer, I realized it was an owl. But strangely, the owl glanced at us and then gave a strange laugh.
That smile gave me the creeps, and I almost fell off the building. Shouldn't owls be one eye open and one eye closed?
Now both of its eyes are open, and what's even stranger is that the owl is laughing.
This reminds me of a scary ghost story I heard when I was a child. I remember there was an old man in our village who often liked to sit at the entrance of the village and watch the sunset.
When he had nothing to do, he liked to tell us kids after school stories. Once, he told us a ghost story.
The story is about a hunter who went into a forest and got lost. Then he met an owl that was smiling at him.
As the saying goes, it's better to hear an owl hoot than to see it laugh; if it laughs, you're doomed.
Of course, this is just a story I heard when I was a child. I don't remember the details very well, but one thing is certain: the hunter never left the forest.
Seeing that owl reminded me of this story, and I immediately felt powerless. Could I be that unlucky? What was that damn owl laughing about for no reason?
I almost cried. Could I be that unlucky? Why do the things I least want to happen always seem to happen?
I was terrified, staring at the owl, unsure what to do. Should I keep flying away, or stay here and wait for it to leave?
I'm now completely caught in a dilemma. What should I do?
When faced with unknown fears, people's first reaction is to run away, and their second reaction is to figure out what it is. Only when they fully understand it will all demons and monsters be paper tigers.
These are the words of my favorite idol, so I firmly believe in them.
So I looked at the owl, wanting to go over and see what was going on. Had the owl switched from eating mice to eating flies tonight?
So I slowly flew towards the owl; the owl's smile was truly eerie.
A strange feeling crept over me, and I had absolutely no idea what to do. After going through so much, I've learned one thing.
Facing difficulties is much better than running away from them, so I slowly flew towards the owl. I wanted to see if the legend was true. Was it really true that seeing an owl and laughing meant courting death?
"Twenty-two cents, where are you going?" Dafu's surprised voice came over.
"I'm going to take a look," I said without turning my head.
"One cent and two cents, are you crazy? Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Dafu said hurriedly.
"But if we don't go see, do you think I can just leave unscathed?" I said, feeling quite frustrated.
If you don't figure things out, you'll never know whether something is dangerous or safe.
Especially when it comes to unknown events, many people think they are dangerous, but in fact, many dangers are just our imagination.
For example, I watched a TV show before where you were asked to touch something inside an unknown box. Because you didn't know what was inside, you were terrified and imagined it to be something dangerous.
But when you get a clear look at what's in front of you, you'll find that it's just some hair or some loaches.
But when you don't know it, your fear can expand infinitely, and you're just scaring yourself.
