Chapter 287 Banquet 1
Chapter 287 Banquet 1
On the day of the banquet, Li Muxia and Li Anran arrived at Wanhe Garden on time, but unfortunately, they ran into Feng Jingxin and Namiya at the entrance.
When Feng Jingxin saw Li Muxia, hatred unconsciously flashed in her eyes, but she still maintained a pure and innocent appearance, saying to Namiia, "Sister Muxia, Sister Anran, what a coincidence."
Namilia also glared at Li Muxia with resentment. She hadn't forgotten how Li Muxia had tricked her into spending more than two thousand taels of silver. Because of this, she had been scolded by her brother for two days when she got back.
Namibia: "Li Muxia, how dare you show your face in front of this princess?"
Li Muxia looked at Namiia with amusement and asked, "I have a perfectly upright character, so why would I be afraid to appear before the princess? Or has the princess done something to offend me and is afraid to see me?"
Namibia was red-faced from the rebuke. Li Muxia said, "You are indeed as rumored, willful and capricious. No wonder Prince Chen broke off the engagement with you. You are just like a shrew."
Li Muxia listened to Namija's exasperated expression with her arms crossed, and lazily said, "Princess, don't make such a ridiculous comparison. In our current state, the eyes of the masses are discerning as to who is more like a shrew."
Upon hearing this, Namiya looked around and saw several young ladies approaching. They whispered among themselves, not daring to step forward.
Namibia's face flushed red instantly. Seeing this, Feng Jingxin looked at Li Muxia with a righteous expression and said, "Muxia, what are you doing? Princess Namibia is a guest. How can you speak to Princess Namibia like that? It's an insult to the dignity of our Eastern Kingdom."
Looking at Feng Jingxin's indignant expression, Li Muxia sneered inwardly. She had been too accommodating before, which allowed this green tea to take advantage of her time and time again.
“Miss Feng, we are indeed a land of etiquette, but as the sage said, ‘The benevolent love others, and the courteous respect others. Those who love others are always loved by others. Those who respect others are always respected by others.’ It was Princess Namibia who provoked us first. I was merely treating her the way she treated me. How did that damage the nation’s reputation? Miss Feng, aren’t you being far too hypocritical?”
Upon hearing this, Feng Jingxin retorted, "Princess Namibia is a guest. Don't you understand the etiquette of hospitality?"
Li Muxia snorted coldly: "I already gave the proper etiquette yesterday, but some people can't accept it. They dare to openly humiliate our people while on our territory. I think the Princess of Namibia didn't come to wish the Emperor a happy birthday, but to provoke him."
Hearing Li Muxia escalate the issue to the national level, Feng Jingxin panicked a little. Looking around, she noticed that more and more people were gathering, and said hastily, "Your words are a bit too serious. Princess Namibia didn't mean that."
Li Muxia: "Hmph, I didn't mean that. Am I not a citizen of the Eastern Kingdom? Did Namibia bully me in the clothing shop yesterday? And did Princess Namibia block my way and make things difficult for me today?"
Her series of questions left the two speechless. Li Anran listened to Li Muxia's witty remarks as she countered Li Muxia's manipulative tactics, and silently applauded Li Muxia.
Li Muxia paused for a moment and then continued, "Or is it that you, Miss Feng, can read minds and know what Princess Namibia is thinking? Or is your relationship so good that she's willing to tell you everything?"
His question was tantamount to implying that Feng Jingxin and Princess Namibia were in cahoots. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing for the two girls to be close, but the problem lay in their different identities and nationalities. What did it mean that one of them knew the other's thoughts? Anyone with a bit of a conspiracy theory in mind would think that the Prime Minister's Mansion was trying to contact the Hamon tribe through Namibia.
As a young lady from the Prime Minister's mansion, how could Feng Jingxin not understand Li Muxia's meaning? She said with a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance, "Li Muxia, don't talk nonsense."
Li Muxia snorted coldly: "What, can't keep up the act anymore?"
Seeing that the two had been humiliated, Li Muxia didn't want to get entangled with them any longer.
Just then, Su Lanzhi arrived, and Li Muxia led the group inside. As they passed Feng Jingxin, Li Muxia kindly reminded her, "Miss Feng, remember your place."
Just as Li Muxia was about to enter, she heard a young lady beside her whisper, "Is that His Highness Prince Rui?"
Upon hearing this, Li Muxia turned around and glanced at Dongfang Jincheng. Her eyes met his immediately. Li Muxia instantly remembered what had happened a couple of days ago, her face flushed, and she quickly turned back, pulling Li Anran and Su Lanzhi away as if someone was chasing her.
Dongfang Jincheng naturally saw Li Muxia's fleeing figure, and his brows furrowed slightly.
Upon entering Wanhe Garden, Li Muxia realized what true wealth and power meant; Wanhe Garden truly lived up to its reputation as a royal garden.
Wanhe Garden is nestled against the mountains and beside the water, covering an area of more than four square kilometers, of which water accounts for half of the area. The garden has more than one hundred buildings and more than thirty courtyards of various sizes, including more than three thousand rooms of different architectural styles such as pavilions, terraces, towers, galleries, and waterside pavilions.
The banquet was to be held in the Yongshou Hall. The Yongshou Hall comprised four courtyards: Fengyin Pavilion, Tianxiang Pavilion, Yawen Garden, and Caiyin Pavilion. The women were in the Tianxiang Pavilion, and the men in the Fengyin Pavilion.
Since the banquet was still a while away, Li Muxia strolled around the royal garden with Li Anran and Su Lanzhi.
They also ran into Shangguan Wenya and Wei Shuyue on the way.
It was the first time for all of them to enter the royal garden, and everyone was very curious, looking around. Li Anran and Su Lanzhi were the youngest, and the two of them ran over to look at the lake under the corridor. The fish in the lake seemed to have not seen so many people for a long time, and they all swam up to greet everyone. A little while later, the two of them ran over to look at the winter plum blossoms in full bloom. If this were not a royal garden, the two little ones would probably have already started picking plum blossoms.
Seeing how happy the two of them were, Shangguan Wenya smiled and reminded them, "You two be careful of the slippery road."
His warning only made things worse; the two of them ended up falling down.
Shangguan Wenya slapped her mouth: "Look at my jinxed mouth."
He then went up to help the two people up.
Just as Li Muxia was about to go up and help, Wei Shuyue stopped her.
"Mu Xia, wait a minute."
Li Muxia felt a little guilty in front of Wei Shuyue, but still looked at her with a puzzled expression: "Sister Wei, what's wrong?"
Wei Shuyue said somewhat awkwardly, "Mu Xia, I have something I want to tell you."
Li Muxia glanced at Li Anran's group, who were having a snowball fight. Seeing that they were all alright, she turned to Wei Shuyue and asked, "Sister Wei, is something the matter?"
Wei Shuyue lowered her head, fiddling with the handkerchief in her hand, seemingly unsure how to begin.
Looking at her, Li Muxia said, "Sister Wei, just tell me what's on your mind."
Wei Shuyue then raised her head, saw Li Muxia looking at her, then lowered her head again and whispered, "I'd like to ask you for a favor?"
Li Muxia wondered what kind of help Wei Shuyue was offering that made it so difficult for her to ask.
"help?"
Wei Shuyue nodded and slowly stated her request.
